  • The questions is: why do you play drums? Do you spend countless hours practicing new drum techniques or do you spend countless hours practicing with your band and making music... What is your goal? I'm sure that Larry feels part of the band and his job THERE is playing the drums. And he does it extremely well. Definitely one of the best drummers ever. If you play in a band that you would like to achieve something special with, you must be focused on the right goals.

  • GO LARRY!!!! XD

  • Who didn't like this?

  • why oh why do people say that larry isnt that good a drummer?bullshit.he must be good or he wouldnt be worth multi millions.so all you wanna be drummers who think you are better than him go get in a band and play as good as him for 30 years and still get to number 1.bet you cant.larry mullen jr is the dogs bollocks.end of

  • Doesnt actually look like him is this a clip of someone from a tribute group lol.

  • @uggla03 of course it's him!

  • larry MULLET jr.. lol... u2 rocks

  • the outro to fire is larry sayin hes listened to the son of the head of the CIA, and he does it in style and taste, also listen to stranger in a strange land, the atmospheric bits,, larry is sound, fact.

  • damn look at that that drum set shake haha

  • Larry sounds like a 1 man marching band.

  • you may be right.

the musicians of U2 aren't the best, but together they are unbeatable!

  • I bet Larry Mullen is the highest paid drummer. Last year U2 made $355 million in touring alone.

  • Which Bad performance? I watched the 01 Boston. Larry said his favorite song is

Street with no Names (I like the Vertigo tour in Brazil for that one). Stewart has a unique sound with The Police that was the reason they became famous and so does Andy. Those 2 videos you talked about were very good and made your point.

  • Good points and I love Bela Fleck. That song in Tokyo last January was really good and you are right about the unique sound Copeland had with The Police.

My brother plays drums professionally so I do appreciate a drummer's point of view.

  • Well the true test of any rock musician is how well they are on jazz. I know Larry is good at it. Is Stewart? Also on "Pop" Larry experimented much more with electronic drum machines and therefore contributed more to the electronic feel of that album.

  • Totally agree with you on your remarks Larry vs. Stewart. However, most women would pick Larry to go out with of the top ten because he is the hottest. He is a damn good drummer, but you may have a point about Copeland. Thanks.

  • Oops, I just saw that you are a drummer. Ok, you know more than I do but to make a point, just please check out the YouTube of Sting-Bring on the Night (live at Seagaia in Japan). Thankx. The Police version of that song is so dull.

  • I can understand you liking Stewart, Turbo, but apart from The Police, he has not really sat in with bands. In fact he is more known for being a composer (google it). Larry Mullen is the hottest drummer in the world and most drummers think and I agree, that Vinnie is the most technical and BEST. Sorry.

  • So what do you think of Vinnie Caliauto who plays now for Sting and other bands. Most drummers consider him the world's best living drummer.

  • Did I say he is a great drummer. I don't think I did. Just simply pointing out a fact that he is definately one of the most sucessful drummers of his time. So while nerds like you argue about who can do faster drum rolls or what not, U2 is laughing all the way to the bank...

  • Larry is amazing. Sunday Bloody Sunday played live explains it all! This is also a great example of Mullen at his best!

  • Who is one of the richest drummers in show business? That would be Larry Mullen. Enough said.......

  • Pfft and Larry said he wasn't that good, tell me something Larry, are you on crack? Your good! He is such a good drummer! He doesn't just bash away at the drums, he uses good dynamics which helps out songs alot.

  • I dont understand the mullen-copeland discussion. both have influenced the music of the bands they play in a lot. without mullen u2 wouldnt sound like u2, without copeland the police wouldnt sound like the police. both are the backbones of 2 of the greatest bands in modern music.

  • Hell yeah!

  • The thing thats always great about larry that he plays through intuition. A lot of drummers seem like Robots pumping about crazy fast solos but they dont sound natural.

  • Larry is a great person full of humility. No bullshit attached. I have always admired his drumming and see a lot of similarities between myself and him. You also have to take into account that he has a degenerative tendonitis problem in his arms. He has always had to play through extreme pain. Doesnt he have a bad back too? Just saying thats one of the reasons maybe he isnt as busy around the kit as Copeland.Overall though Larry is a great Dublin lad who never let fame go to his head

  • Id like to see that too,but Im quite sure Larry could deliver.

  • Only men downgrade Larry Mullen Jr.'s ability as a drummer I've noticed. The face...the body...the job...the money...the ability to nail any woman on the planet...

    Smells like envy to me.

  • iv'e always noticed that...you're right :)

  • Well, I think theres something you haven't quite grasped. Once you are, as you say, an accomplished professional drummer, you don't HAVE to prove yourself by adding twenty thousand double bass hits, or the likes. Almost any drummer in any professional band could play another bands setlist. Theres a point in your career when you can play whatever you want, so you go back to more fun, less demanding stuff. Theres no doubt Copeland could play U2 without problems, but Mullen could also play Police.

  • very well put.

  • Look, it's one thing to be able to wank on and on like Neil Peart and Stewart Copland, both fantastic drummers, but to take advantage of that left floor tom and come up with a drum pattern like Pride is just amazing. I've seen countless technically accomplished drummers try to play Pride and they always, always, always get it wrong. Larry Mullen really is one of rock's greatest drummers. (Though I have to admit his drumming has gotten way to simple on the last couple albums. C'mon Larry!)

  • Taking in to account technical hability, he's obviously not want of the best of even close (everybody who knows a bit about drums can see that). What makes him a great drummer (and I think he is one) is his hability to do exactly what the song needs and I guess that's what's important. Also, his sound changed constantly throughout the times - his drums always sounded perfect for each album. Who needs busier beets that get in the way when you can have easier and more imaginative like he does.

  • Can kids comment?

  • Larry nails it EVERY time.

  • what a drummer... sunday blood sunday intro like wow

  • i know and its easy to play. anone who can take a really easy drum line like that and make it insane is a legend.

  • oh mio dio !!! è bravissimo *_* Larry ti amo da morire!! u2 per sempre e sempre sempre sempre sempre *_*

  • no mate, obv dont like the band or your jealous of his glory!! why are you watching vidoes of him if he sucks? dick'ed

  • Um, when at any point in this convo did i say Larry Mullen sucks?? I said i love U2 more than life itself .. jealous of his glory?!?! im fuckin stoked for him, AGAIN i love U2 more than lie itself, i simply stated that he is not the best drummer alive . .read more carefully please

  • Douche....you don't know anything about drums. Being a great band drummer is the ultimate compliment you fool.

  • larry is one georgous drummer

  • I don't know if he's the best drummer or not but what I know is that he made me love drums. I never really cared about them in any song before U2... So thank you Larry! Sorry for mistakes.

  • Larry is the fucking dude.

  • He is not the best rock drummer, but he is my favorite drummer, because he always do what the song needs, he has THE sound for each album.

  • He's my favourite drummer!!!

  • esse cabelo do larry rules!

  • ele é o melhor da atualidade! e se vc, offtheline eh tão fã assim, como q naum reconhece isso? vá se ferrar

  • ok, im the hugest U2 fan, and larry is not the greatest rock drummer ever by any stretch . .nor was that the intro to "i threw a brick through a window" .. was the outro

  • which is why it is labled as the outro? :S

  • was at one point labeled intro .. .obviously i wouldt say what i said if it did say outro to begin with. I love U2 more than life itself . .but again, larry isnt "the U2 sound", hes part of it, they all make up the "U2 sound" Larry is not by any stretch a fantastic drummer but he keeps the beat very well, and thats what it all comes down to.

  • Maybe not the best but one of the great "band" drummers of all time.

  • It seems like the battery is gonna fall down into pieces at any time xD

  • Larry is the greatest rock drummer of all time.

  • Agreed.

  • Whah, Larry's sooo good! I totally love him, you're my number one drummer, Larry!(:

  • you are the man larry!!!
