Excellent. Jo congrats and you get to live in the work of your hands and heart. You answered my question. I am strongly considering doing a dome home next year on Maui. I had a feeling that without someone associated with Monolithic the process would be difficult in Hawaii. Now I know, but it won't stop me. I think I will also find a way to bring in some experienced dome builders into the project for an extended "vacation."
Joe, You have done something I would love to do.I own some beautiful desert in So. Cal. I plan to take the corse in Texas. I also own some land in Puna on the Big island. But time is running out for me. I abused my temple and smoked my life away. COPD is now my future doing what I can just to breath. I will build using help from construction crews and I will just pay the money. I think I wuld love to have you head up the crews! Not only beautiful but smart and strong. Ahhh someday. Steve
I would not expect to find any domes that are made with a solid pour. Concrete is very heavy and gravity plays an important part in the application process. That is why the concrete is applied in several thin coats and permitted to dry between applications.
wow, thank you for this inspirational video...I will watch it whenever I am second guessed by an insecure guy...it's not as life consuming as your project, but as I work on my little dream (rebuilding a classic chevy) I run into the same kinds of men...so, I thank you...
I'm wondering about some of the interior items in your home...
What if you could build a Monolithic dome with 2,600 sq ft of living space, costs 10% of a the average home to build, and provides protection and efficiency from its 24in thick wall? Watch A HOME FIT FOR ROYALTY
DJEEZS this woman a nice combination play full as hell and building such a house on her own. Nice dream! Did i see a buggy there? Does anybody know if she is still living in it right know? Pros cons compared to a regular house?
I think I´m in love. What you acomplished is amazing. I have a similar plan in mind, but on a much smaller scale. I plan on building a ferro-cement geodesic dome dog house.
Great job! Your home is beautiful, and you should be so proud. You are an inspiration to all (especially to women) that dream of building a dome home. Thanks for posting your experience.
What an inspiration! I'm glad you shared this! It's frustrating so many men can be like this (in this century)! Lots of stories to add to that one! But the important part is you came through, you persisted. It's nice you had a few people with open ears along the way. It's my dream to have a monolithic one day. My friend has already told me she and some of the ladies who volunteer for habitat would find it interesting. Great job!
i would never boot you out of my tent especially if you have that kind of heart to stick it out I spent 6 yrs building my uncles house on the side but when it was done the morgage was only 10k and the house was valued at 500,000 ..... funny thing is we only spent 127,000+35,000 for land makes you wonder who really does the ripin of with new homes ... Anyway I love your video and determination!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well done Jo, that's an inspiring story for sure. "Experts" in conventional construction are often the biggest butthead obstacles to any project, glad you figured a way around most of them (except the dude with the roof thing). I'm sending this to my wife for inspiration, we're thinking of building an earthbag cluster of domes for a home but have lots of research to do, it'll be in the northeast (Mass) , so need to deal with insulation, freezing soil, groundwater etc.
Great job...I want to build a dome home. However, i would be wary of building anywhere near a flood area (you mentioned a flood) Domes can survive a lot but flood...ugh
Very Inspirational!! I am out here, in the Great Plains of America, in the state of Kansas, and I so want to build a dome home. Your video really touched me. I totally understand your "one step at a time" approach. Thank you for sharing your dome building experiences. Blessings upon you, and your dome, and to all who find shelter there.
Congrats on your dome. I also have a wonderful monolithic dome, in East Texas. I understand every area of struggle that you facted. If ever in Texas I would love to meet you
You're dome looks amazing!

why was your electric bill $1000 per month? Was that the cost of running the fans?

As a man I feel humbled by what a woman alone can accomplish.
I can only imagine the macho attitude specially in the construction field you had to endure.

Practice makes perfect. David South, Gary Clarke, et al are such great people.
I did the training and actually made a friend from Hawaii that came to teh training and when I saw the video I was curious to see if it was him.
Great work and the important thing is that even at turtle pace you did it.
Next time you are doing another let me know I may just coe out and give you a hand.
God's Blessings
