  • like this- wish i know another haitian like you besides my friends

  • oh i know what you're talking about (hint hint). i did a presentation on consumerism just last week. you are so right, people depend on others to tell them what they should look like, feel like, smell like, etc. people no longer have the capacity or will to think for themselves anymore. and you are absolutely right that the whole concept of consumerism is genius because those people have figured out that most americans are gullible and needy, lol. great video!

  • Genius, but fucked up...........so true

  • the problem lies not in each individual, but rather in the system: We’ve created a monster. The issues we are facing today, such as pollution, can all be rectified by scrupulous administration and regulation. I believe we are in great need of vigorous leaders who will illuminate the masses. By any shmeeans necessary, I hope that people will feel interpellated. Never forget that we are all human and open to good ideas. Thks for the oppertune Saxy nb:this is parag.3

  • Needed to form what is known as culture. This process builds a stepping stone on which individuals can then fulfil their societal duties. These goals have become the most important aspect of one’s life due to the interdependency that the ever growing population has caused. In other words, a person cannot rely on him or herself to survive; it would be very difficult for someone living in an urban area to grow enough crops to feed his or her family. Hence...

  • I would like to get to the root of this consumerist sensation by proposing a simple concept: overpopulation. The act of consuming has never been reproachable, all living things must do so to survive, and our superficial desires are simply an outgrowth of this strong survival instinct that evolution has haphazardly relegated to us humans. As you said Miss Saxy, a child might want to associate himself with a cartoon or what not, but that exact phenomenon is a fundamental one ... continued...

  • missed you!!

  • well said saxy! i feel good that there are still intelligent sane poelpe left! lots of love!

  • A lot of this has to do with the 66 (I think) marketing types (in Canada at least) where #1 is the elite, white, wealthy family and #66 is the poor, ethnic, francophones and every stereotype in between. You target the specific type of person you want, but you hope the want trickles up and down

  • identity tied with apparel. i just kept thinking urban outfitters. I knew my weariness was justified around marketing majors. Manipulators, I say! allie, you know what gets me? subliminal messages and their ability to be detected by our unconcious and affecting our behavior.

  • group think basically

  • sexy as always...ahhh

  • @gamekillanyc hey game! ;)

  • i feel u on this topic. i dont have the money nor the time to buy the newest things.

  • @jpopkpop lol! *brush 'em off

  • i am with you Ali, can't do much about it, they will turn on to what every they have to sell its sad that the art that initated the whole thing has become so washed out and mono focused and making us just a spoke in the wheel, like you say its just a load of crap.

  • @Pruerod1 sigh..

  • Illumaniti's real ppl.....wake up!!! It's disturbing

  • this my dear is why you're going to Berkly. Great things are to be in your future.

  • @nobby481 Hey thanks, glad you enjoy the vids. Tell me more about the website, what's the link?

  • luv this

  • Welcome to the Machine

  • I have to say, I don't think that marketing is that big of a problem. If you go back to, say, the 1940's and 50's, the era of the "hard sell" you'd be astounded by the advertising of the time. The natural reaction to that, was the counter-cultural movement of the 60's.

I see it as more of an "evolutionary arms race". The public immunizes itself against the marketing, and the marketing adapts to survive. This is slowly elevating the intellectual level of the populace, I think.

  • @Jcolinsol Totally agree on immune. Formulas and repetition has now become obvious. It's like Dawkin' example on evolvment - the cheetah is able to chase its preys faster, so now the gazelle has to upgrade on it's running skills.

  • i love you saxy..but u always sound like you got serious cold and stuffy nose...

  • @dopemcee Swollen adnoids. Had it my whole life..thinking of removing it before leaving for boston. It might change my life for good!

  • @saxygurl8 awww..i feel like a jerk now for making that comment ...lol...hmm..but see i learned something new today..never heard of Adnoids..

and btw...did rhashad88 just write an essay on youtube? lol...homie do a video response its easier

  • @dopemcee I did, this is the reply lol. :D

  • @dopemcee Yea are useless and have become a nuissance. Like people with appendix problems or molars..time to get them out! Basically mine are always swollen which blocks the air passage. So I sound like I have a cold pretty much all the time AND I SNORE!

  • Pt. 8... I don't want to write a book on your page, lol. In conclusion, I think we should first and most importantly know who we are without someone telling us who we are, have a true relationship with our creator, and don't get caught up in the confusion of this world. It's all just a bunch of distractions and greedy people who exploit the minds of those unaware of what's going on. Survival of the fittest unfortunately, but not for everyone necessarily. Just like the lamb and the wolf, lol ;)

  • @rhashad88 lol @ the lamb and the wolf..was that taken from my selfish gene video?

  • @saxygurl8 lol, kant vs. subject.

  • Pt. 7..I've noticed that it's usually the artistically inclined and spiritual people who set the "better" standard for living and not the "higher" standard of living placed on by the corporate world and society. In relation to what I was saying though, I was discussing the social aspect of how this plays a role in destroying the true meaning of what love really is and how it can be obtained. You can't get love from money, and never will! There is so much more I could say on this topic, but..

  • im trying to stop buying so much crap and just keep it simple.......your jewelry is lovely, did you make it yourself?

  • you nailed it!!!! its all psychological!!

  • @starrsvm its like were all part of a huge social experiment

  • @starrsvm Straight up.

  • Pt. 6... society as well, whether it be intentional or not. Don't get me wrong though, even though I believe we should all be free and think for ourselves, I still believe there should be a standard set as far as how we go about doing it; in the context that we should still all love and respect each other and do unto people as we wanted to be treated ourselves. I would also add having a relationship with GOD is the biggest secret to achieving this too, but that's my personal opinion. ;)

  • Pt. 5 (lol).. could possibly be taken away from them tomorrow. However, you do have those few select people in the world who knows and sees what goes on and how this society works. These few select are truly able to enjoy life because they know themselves and don't need to be told how to dress, think, or live. That's why when society looks down on us for not giving into the system, we still continuously go against the grain and set new standards and heights not only for ourselves, but also for..

  • Pt. 4..That's how bad the condition of our society is today! People have no type of self esteem or confidence about themselves because they don't know who they really are. People have been taught to be the person that the corporate world wants them to be and not yourself. Therefore, if a person's identity is solely based upon spending and buying ridiculously expensive and unnecessary apparel and material things, they will NEVER be complete or satisfied cause they're depending on something that..

  • Pt.3..society will look down on you and treat you like an OUTCAST!? A good example of this is how rappers, celebrities and athletes are constantly advertising products and trends that they themselves wouldn't even use or do behind the scenes. If certain rappers came out wearing lipstick in their music videos tomorrow, the majority of their male fans would follow their lead and do the same, lol. Sad, but true...

  • Pt. 2..reality, we as individual people are the ones who set the standards for what we truly need and don't need in our lives. People don't need celebrities or rappers to tell them what to wear, how to think, what to eat and drink, and who to be. That's OUR decision and it shouldn't be exploited by the corporate world, or anyone else for that matter. Also, there's pressure from society that if you don't give into "this" type of systematic thinking and mindlessly buy things you truly don't need..

  • HAHA! THIS WAS GREAT ALI! You really nailed the hammer with this video. People are so brainwashed by television and the media that they're not even real human beings with souls or individuality any more, but instead are zombified slaves to a materialistic world! It's so annoying, yet sad at the same time witnessing how these people are manipulated into thinking they need certain products in their life or certain materialistic things to feel complete or even accepted by society. When in....

  • Wow you're totally gorgeous and so pretty esp your eyes and smile and love how fit u look, too. But yea, marketers don't create consumerism or materialism; rather, they go with what people bring to to the marketplace, so to speak. Before motivation there are needs and wants and along with motivation, there's personality traits, perception, culture, values, environment, and so on. But yea, marketers know how people think and target groups of people for products and services.

  • @luvsbuffgurls Commerce developed a concept in the 20's: After the great depression, an ideaology grew from scarcity to abundance - creditcards, advertisements and all that jazz.. Credit cards is another issue: gives ppl a false sense of control, next thing you know they're in debt. The outcome? A paradox of "work & spend". Humans have two basic needs: Basic & superfluous. I didn't say it created, 'Consumerism' it's the main topic; this correlates with the rise of materialism.

  • @saxygurl8 hey gurl i luv how intellegent u r besides being such a good dancer and creative artist. i subscribe to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and i think most marketing works off that. materialism grew out of the end of WW II when marketers saw all the men and women returning from the war able and willing to spend that's when suburban sprawl took hold with houses being built in developments from all that consumerism financial products evolved. consumers have to be extra smart today for sure

  • Those who are aware generally know about dissatisfaction created by advertisers. But we are not really aware how advertisers also limit our creativity, so thanx for putting that out there. Also, it's good to have u back on the tube - I've missed u!

  • I remember when I was young and wanted the next big thing right away. Now I'm older and I'm just content with what I have and I'll get an upgrade when I can afford it.
