I'm more or less in the same boat as you jed52, but for a lot of people suffering in all forms is sad. Its hard not to empathize with the coyote getting ripped apart, or his mate that will miss him. If you were to die in battle and leave a mate behind, it would be a sad story, right? But you're right, it is definitely how nature works, so although it may be sad, it is not evil.

Empathy can be seen being displayed in the video where a dog is struck on the highway and his lifelong friend tries to pull him to freedom/out of danger.

@jhaynnyson I think it depends on the terrain because their paws are different, also size and endurance for a chase has to play a part. But as far as speed, I think Wolves are faster because they have longer strides in their run.

Damn, wolves are so beautiful, yet I feel sorry for that coyote, even though that's the cycle of life.
I have a feeling that one gray wolf is the alpha male or female. Would be surprised if it wasn't, but... anyways, this is actually pretty crazy. Still feeling bad for those coyotes, but stuff like this happens to wolves as well.

Thank a hunter/trapper next time you see one. Wolves are one track killing machines. The only reason your kid can wait for a school bus or you can walk from your house to your car in rural areas without being eaten by them is because humans are the only predator that has over come them. They don't "respect" humans, they have instinct to survive. Since the dawn of time humans have taught wolves to stay away from them.

Those wolves are ferocious. I'm glad that I don't live in an area where well meaning biologists are starting new wolf packs. That coyote could be a person! I think that scientists shouldn't be able to put a wolf in someone else's back yard and then leave....they should put them in THEIR neighborhood! :)

@quinnjim "that coyote could be a person" probably not, but it could be someone's dog. I take dogs with me when I hike to act as an early warning system for bears, but I am terrified we'll run into wolves. Wolves will just straight up kill a dog, and I hate putting them in that kind of danger
