The simple truth is that dramatic actors are given far more credit than comic actors even though many will attest that doing comedy well is far more challenging.

Why do you think playing a dumb blonde requires little skill? Most of the directors praised her comedic timing as "genius" and these were people who had worked with the best in the business. Marilyn just made it look easy, but that doesn't mean it was. It looks easy to me, but then I'm not a professional so I'm taking the word of those who are. I agree that her persona and life has much more to do with her fame, but that doesn't mean she wasn't talented. I also think she could carry a tune well.

And yet the best of her in "Something..." show how mature and appealing she could be, without the breathy voice, etc. By the way, I've seen all the hours of footage, and typically Fox chose her weakest takes for The Finall Days doc.

The simple truth is that dramatic actors are given far more credit than comic actors even though many will attest that doing comedy well is far more challenging.

Why do you think playing a dumb blonde requires little skill? Most of the directors praised her comedic timing as "genius" and these were people who had worked with the best in the business. Marilyn just made it look easy, but that doesn't mean it was. It looks easy to me, but then I'm not a professional so I'm taking the word of those who are. I agree that her persona and life has much more to do with her fame, but that doesn't mean she wasn't talented. I also think she could carry a tune well.

@tkoboko Marilyn's singing in her films was her own voice (with the exception of Marni Nixon's high notes in 'Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend'). If you were referring to her 'Happy Birthday' performance, even the most accomplished of singers would sound bad with that horrible sound quality, and that's not taking into account Marilyn's drunkenness.

She met all the celebs backstage after, and then, accompanied by her beloved ex father-in-law, went on to the Arthur Krim party. Nobody--not one of the many people interviewed from that party--mention her "drunkeness." I have no doubt she drank that nite, but she would not have made a drunken spectactle of herself with Isidore Miller in her care.

But her rendition is trying too hard to be the "Marilyn" of legend, the image she had tried to shake, but couldn't. And yet the best of her in "Something..." show how mature and appealing she could be, without the breathy voice, etc. By the way, I've seen all the hours of footage, and typically Fox chose her weakest takes for The Finall Days doc.

@tkoboko As for Marilyn being unique, I agree, but there are many others who don't, and can sit through her best performances and write off her screen-presence as being no different to any other blonde bombshell's. Acting talent can be similarly subjective. Some people are simply put off by Marilyn's characters and over-exaggerated expression style, even though this is what makes them comedy.

He didn't know that she had a prescription of Nembutal, a barbiturate, already filled and she had taken some that day. If you see her autopsy report, her stomach was almost empty with gray fluid inside. Drugs when digested, tend to leave left over fluid in the stomach. She knew the doctor would treat her with Chroyl Hydrate. She decided to take Nembutal anyway.
