I'm glad that the Freedom party fervently believes in the demise of Universal Health care. Clearly privatization has worked out so well for tens of millions of Americans.
pvuko, I am surprised that you would cite these WHO rankings which have been pretty well deconstructed. Only one quarter of the ranking is based on actual outcomes and even then they do not adjust for variables like violence or life style.
only far-right people do NOT believe the WHO ratings. I have the latest WHO report (2006) and a greater percentage of American who were between 50-59 died than Canadians. The major factor is quality of medical treatment. 1 in 6 American have NO health insurance and can not afford to see a doctor much but all Canadian can see a doctor without paying. The percentage of american 60+ went from 16.3 to 16.5 from 1994-2004 and Canada went from 16.0 to 17.5.
Canadian have almost the same lifestyle as American. Canadian smoke a small percentage less but this is recent development. Canadian population is 1/9 of the USA population. One year i remember is 11,000 gun deaths vs 150 in Canada. Multiply by 9 and you get 1350 _ 9650 difference in a population of 300 million has no effect on the rating. Canada is rank #30 and USA is #37: the data for all who reports are obtained from the American Government and Canadian government.
When one quarter of the ranking is based on "fairness"(regardless of quality) and another quarter is based on distribution, one begins to see that the WHO rankings are less a measure of a health care system's ability in combating sickness but rather a measure of conforming to the world view of those who devise the WHO's health care ranking formula.
Many american hospital SUCK and are almost as bad as some in the 3rd world

I was thinking that maybe you should look at the way the people in belgium run their schools, they have public, private and religious schools, however with the public schools, the money is attached to the kid, so the kid can move from school to school like you suggested, but the kid is still paid for by govt/taxes. There is a video on youtube about the education system in America and they talk about the Belgian system, its a 20/20 video or something. Watch it.
Who 2000 report ranking health care: France #1, Italy #2, UK 18, Germany #25, Canada #30, Costa Rica #36, USA #37, Cuba #39, Croatia #43 (Part of Former Yugoslavia _ data for report taken during a civil war) All countries except for USA have Universal Health Care paid mainly by taxes
Leading cause of death in USA most years is medical error (wrong drug given, infection in hospital, wrong treatment given) and the heart disease is #2 and cancer is #3
Mexico just started Universal Health Care system. People in Mexico live 4 years shorter than American i expect in next 10 years the gap will shink to zero.
I am glad that you had a rabbi in the debate. While I did not agree with him in many ways, the level of the debate was higher than usual.
I did find it astounding that he would refer to the United Nations (i.e. the nations united against the children of Jacob-Israel) in order to support his argument.
At least in Ontario, referring to the UN Organization's decision is the standard schtick for everyone who wants all religious schools to be funded the same way.

Sounds to me that you are not a man that supports the Freedom Party nor the Objective right.

The United States does not have truly privatized healthcare nor anything else for that matter.
Yet are the statistics percentage wise better than Canada (as far as basic medical needs go and good doctors and healcare). The answer is yes.
Stop being a dolt

Who 2006 report:
Canadians 60+ in 1994 is 16.0 and 17.5 in 2004
Americans 60+ in 1994 is 16.2 and 16.5 in 2004
Fairness to older canadian means more of them live longer than Americans because they have access to quality healthcare than Americans lack.

A "ready-to-wear argument", in other words? Convenient, perhaps.
Myself, I tend to tune out after someone mentions "UN", but that's just me.
