I'm doing this exact role on stage, and I can say that he forgot a lot of the script, kent has a few lines that are paragraph sized. He did an amazing job though, I'm having a great time imitating him, in a podunk community theatre.
Oliver Stone allowed Wincott to ad-lib in the movie as he felt the essence of the "Kent" character that Woncott developed onstage was what he wanted to capture, as opposed to pesenting the Devil's Advocate character Bogosian had written.
The movie differs in that Barry Champlain has no redemption in the film, compared to his gradual redemption that comes with the introspection that he gets from the callers through the play.
The film more closely reflects Alan Berg, I think.
"i'd like to send that one out to diamond dave & billy the bass player & all the babes at the valleyview mall." great stuff. doesn't kent get barry's job at the end? "i'm the new toastmaster!" this film also has a great low-key soundtrack by stewart copeland.
It was getting pretty dramatic (as if the whole scene wasn't dramatic :P) towards the end, the radio host was a bit distracted before the video ended. Why?
"It's like that song by Megadeth! PEACE SELLS BUT WHO'S BUYIN?! PEACE SELLS BUT WHO'S BUYIN?!"
Awesome. That part is on the Arsenal Of Megadeth DVD at the beginning. Always wondered what movie it was from until a mate told me that the bloke's Michael Wincott. Looked him up on here and there he was singing Peace Sells. What a legend!
Michael Wincott is one of THE classic actors of our generation. He portrays Kent perfectly! As a guy growing up in the 80s and 90s, this is the only way to go! We have great talents...use us!!!
Sadly, that is the problem with a lot of amazing yet little-known actors... but especially true of Michael. At least his characters are usually the most memorable from the films he's in!
Well, Michael did originate the role of Kent on the stage before he did the film (side note- the filmakers thought he was too old to play the character in the movie but took a chance anyway), so he probably had a lot of input on the actual character. Michael has been known to improvise which is probably why he has such memorable roles!
Well, I saw on his offical site that they call him a "scene stealer". And that's true. Where ever he appeares, you pay attention to him AND only HIM. He is unique actor.
Great film in the same league as Network! Seen it acouple of times part way through on the telly. Finally got a copy today and watched it through. Riveting viewing, a real classic!
Thanks! I am trying to upload as many of his unconventional roles as I can... check him out in Basquiat and Dead Man too. And I believe that the hair is fake... but it still looks great on him!
Great film.

Hollywood propaganda. This movie came out during the "FEAR OF METAL and before the "THE LA RIOT". Oliver Stone is an asshole!!!

This scene was really tense in the movie - i had no idea what was going to happen when i first saw it!
Luckily Kent was just a harmless goofball.
AndySabola11 2 years ago
Why the hell he didn't have a better career. In "The Crow" he was perfect - what's wrong with casting directors
josbusfield 2 years ago 7
Sadly, that is the problem with a lot of amazing yet little-known actors... but especially true of Michael. At least his characters are usually the most memorable from the films he's in!
nwilli13 2 years ago 2
That is very true of his characters - I wonder what was written and what was improvised - there's not a chance in hell all of that written

Good to know, thanks for the behind the scene's info - maybe later on he'll pull a Mickey Rourke and re-emerge to take his power back.

@svedzin
It's hard to divert attention from a great character actor like Eric Bogosian but Wincott pulls it off without a hiccough here.
