Is it me, or was this aria a little too rushed? Perhaps that is why is lacks depth and interpretive quality and some shape of artistic form and style. The instrument itself is gorgeous though if I must say.
Great agility, sweet tone, bravura performance......but, (and probably an age thing) I am not brought to the point of "Rejoicing" .......in other words the undoubted technical excellence of the performance overshadows Handel's deeply felt Christian message.
Which versions do you prefer, pjdonagh? I find it difficult to find a truly joyful and spiritual rendition of this aria. (I like Roschmann ver much, though.)
