@comlien not true. when planes are idiling, there jet engines are always on. one barrel of oil makes only 2-3 gallons of jet fuel, while makes 15 of diesel. And try running a plane with refined cooking oil.
@comlien how explaine: trains can be run on bio-fuels including the oil used to make that burger you ate a few days ago and a plane never turns off its jets plaines would get the equivalent to about 10 feet to the gallon versus a train gets 10-20 miles to the gallon if running on diesel which as we have seen they don't need to. once again planes have to use jet fuel. i am running out of space just look at RELIABLE sources and you will see the really what i am saying
in 2012, the caltrain is going to be electrificated when they get the California high speed rail Work on, and the Caltrain and the high speed rail will go into the new Transbay Terminal whare it will meet busses and barts.
Trains will not replace cars, but as for commuting to and from work or school its the best way to travel.
Long distance traveling is another good idea, just a little bit slower but way for comfortable than air. If the airline industry shut down tomorrow i wouldn't miss it.
Spread the word, trains are the past and future. Just ask anyone from Europe what they'd do without them. We need more mass transit and alot less automobiles on the road. Great vid and keep up the good work!
Trains are good when the go where you need them to, not so much when they don't, but either way they are a part of the transportation future.
Having said that, I don't like the idea of being FORCED onto a train, or in other words, forced out of my car. Much of the push for mass transit is not about global warming as much as it is about the elitist "powers that be" having contempt for the fact that we can come and go as we please. That's too much freedom, in their red minds.
What's wrong with a little walking to and from stations? and if the trains depart every 30 minutes you are free to go anytime you like.
Trust me, using public transportation is all about NOT being lazy, checking out timetables before you go, planning your day a little bit. I have done that for years, and americans are slowly discovering this too.
Many Americans ride trains to work and back, but Americans enjoy the freedom to get in a car, turn the key and go wherever they want, whenever they want. It's a freedom that a power-hungry government — ran by control freaks like Obama who want to rule the people with an iron fist — wants badly to take away from citizens.
It's not about walking to and from the station; it's about freedom of mobility. As they provide trains to ride, they'll restrict the freedom to use cars.
See that's where you are wrong. any country in europe you go to you are free to get in your car and go wherever you want whenever you want. But in London for example you'll find that the streets are so crowded that it's way faster to take the tube (subway) With trains going every 3-10 minutes you don't even need to plan anything or check timetables. It's incredibly inefficient that every person going to work drives their own car that occupies a 100 sq.feet and weighs 4000 pounds each.
Mass transit makes sense in some metropolitan areas, sure. Won't deny that, but...
To match that, they are making it harder to become a motorist by raising taxes, emissions and other standards, etc. On top of that, they are restricting how one can drive, with carpooling rules, mileage taxing, mandatory no-drive days, etc. It's worse there than here from what I understand.
It's a slippery slope. They gradually keep turning up the heat on these things.
We just re-elected our social government here in norway. I voted for them. Their sensible economic politics resulted in that we barely noticed that financial brakedown that is now putting USA in the hands of the communistic chineese. That's scary.
I agree that the Communists over in China are scary and are a threat. What's even scarier is the combined efforts of them, and our own newly-elected Communist government here working at a breakneck pace to nationalize everything and bring us under collect-and-redistribute policies, in much the same fashion as Venezuela.
WE are the parasite, not the government. WE pollute the air. The government doesn't tell you when to take a shit, but YOUR shit is sitting somewhere being eaten by bacteria, to be recycled into clean drinking water. That is sick, but live without sewers. Government provided as well. You drive on city streets, you damn well better pay to use it. You use products created by other people, you better damn well pay for it. You want something for nothing That is the scarier thought, not the government
Problem is, the people that damn socialism and communism, haven't a single clue about what socialism or communism is in practice. I am a Norwegian guy living in the United States. I work for my paycheck(railroader), I get to eat how I want, cheap or expensive. I drive wherever I want. I don't have an enormous debt like most people because "I" did not create it for myself. I own everything I have except my apartment. Not really that big of a deal. Paying for someone else to fix things. Smart!
@caltrain2 Trains is an amazing feat by man. Short distance travel, less then 1 hour, should be saved for vehicles. More then 1 hour 30 mins of travel, that should be for trains.
@MrCSXboy98 Actually it depends on what kind of train though. Urban light rail/rapid transit should also serve the purpose for more localized travel, so even then trains are still the most efficient, the problem is that not enough American cities take advantage of the benefits or plan the system correctly or efficiently.
i love trains , i never understood why people have complaned about them
