The amazing thing is that 200 years ago sailors were surviving this stuff in wooden sailing ships with no radar, heated cabins…just a nine inch plank between yourself and eternity.
no man will a sailor who has contrivance enough to get him self into a jail; for being in a ship is being in a jail, whit the chance of being drowned. A man in the jail has more room, better food and commonly better company
at 4.20 a big thundering white chaoss of whater is all around the ship .......from that minute i would piss and shit my pants man!!!!........WTF!!!......whitehead giants .
I hate when people don't know the difference between "then" and "than" - they are different words with different meanings you mouth breather (serref1) - If you don't know the Queen's English, you are hardly qualified to assess gale force winds. "not more then 8". You sound like a 23 year old unemployed Mountain Dew drinker who still lives with his parents - In ARKANSAS. I love how you know more "then" everyone else about sea storms, but "than" again, your vocabulary is questionable.
This is awesome!! Just look at the turbulence of sea... i am gonna join merchant navy right after my mechanical degree....my life's gonna be awesome!!
I have still photos from a Royal Navy Frigate HMS Loch Fyne in the Bay of Biscay taken by my dad from the bridge with a 22.5 degree heel during a storm in the bay.
The helmsman on this boat in the video did a champion job, nice work.
Would somebody knowledgeable please explain the following phenomenon? The video shows terrible rain and giant ocean waves, and the sky is heavily cloudy. Yet, some part of the sky is surprisingly clear, and one can even observe the light. Look around 1:28. Is that what they call the "eye" of the hurricane? Very interesting to observe this in the real life footage.
@mdmsfan It's probably just a camera flare, or maybe the sun behind the clouds.
The eye of the storm is normally huge, a few miles wide stretching from land to sky so it wouldn't of been the eye. The eye is just the word for the empty circle in the middle of a hurricane.
a ship arrived in our local port in Cornwall...the crew were seasick & hadn't eaten for 6 days!! Several porthole glass broken, most of the crockery and glassware smashed,
i saw this video years ago, still it gives me chills, and still it is at the first place of my personal youtube award list. I want to ask you to repost this video without music, i want to hear the metal bend, the sound of the waves, the alarm and the atmosphere. Please do it. Take the peder asses from jail and tie em to the huge pole on the bow of the ship and send him in the wrost storms. If they survive, they get to walk free. If not, oh well. XD
makes you think about the power of the sea and nature in general god bless the merchant sailors of the world and thats not forgeting sailors from shall we say land landlocked areas bless you all
Thanks eesko..... This actually reminds me of a piece I wrote in 1996..... for string quartet..... I will post it for you to hear.... it takes the preverbal "piss"!!!
@reluctable yeah if you don't get the call of the sea you won't get it why anyone would like to work on a ship. And the pay isn't too bad when you think that some people study 10 years and still get pretty much the same amount. Also if you troll, try to do it less obvious.
@nallepuh6969 How am I trolling? I hate hearing that bit of music and I wouldn't be a sailor for twice what they get paid. I believe both those things, I didn't say either of them to be controversial, they're the comments that came to my mind when I saw this clip.
Christ I hate this piece of music. What IS the appeal of this repetitive, dull, movie music? Like 99.99% of film music it's fine in the film it was written for and mediocre to downright bloody awful in any other context. And why is there ALWAYS someone asking what it's called on EVERY single one of the 10 MILLION videos it's been plastered onto?
I HOPE you vote me down, I will wear the negative vote of anyone who actually likes this godforsaken tune as a badge of honour.
@odlebrook Its were the Atlantic meets land, it comes up from 2000 mtr to 60 mtr, this creates huge waves apart from the wind. If you go out, further out on the Atlantic were the water is still deep it's not so bad.
I can only imagine how tough it must have been for the sailors crewing the tiny wooden cockleshells they called "ships" 200 years ago in weather like this ... no warm comfy bridges, wipers or engines.... they simply had to endure: end of story
Is it weird to say that watching stuff like this makes me want to become a seaman more than nice images of cruise ships steaming through water paradise?
