Marguerite happens to be my cousin, and she has more class in what she flushes than those that post such insults. Evidently, some don't know talent when they see it. Only a fool insults a person without knowing them.
I recently perused a copy of Life Mag from 12/4/1950. She was hawking Camels because they were (miraculously) easier on her throat! But almost every star was plugging cigs. Darn good money they paid.
Stan Freberg did not, and would not, sell his name to be used for either alcohol or tobacco. (I must say, I love pipes and cigars!)
NBC's comedy variety program "Your Show of Shows" inspired the format of Saturday Night Live." Over the years SNL had guest hosts with the same show biz stature as Melvyn Douglas, but I can't quite remember SNL doing opera, especially opera this good. And on live network TV yet. In Puncini's La Boheme, Musetta sings her waltz on Christmas Eve. Let's see someone top this at our Christmas Eve parties.
@AventuraLuver Here is a general translation of the lyrics When I walk alone in the street People stop and stare at me And everyone looks at my beauty, Looks at me, From head to foot... And then I relish the sly yearning which escapes from their eyes and which is able to perceive my most hidden beauties. Thus the scent of desire is all around me, and it makes me happy, makes me happy! And you who know, who remember and yearn you shrink from me? I know it very well (continued)
This is a marvelous version of Musetta's Waltz, exactly as it should be: seductive, coquettish, humorous and airy. I've seen too many sopranos do this as if it's a funeral march, par ticularly in recital. This was actually an American television performance in the 1950's: from Musetta to the Infantile Housewives of Suburbia, we've come a long way. Wonderful, captivating version of Cuando me 'n'vo..
Margarite Daughter is on Antique Road Show just now having a table from the mid 1900 century appraised. Very theatrical and dramatic. It's worth about 14.000 dollars. margarite's still alive apparently. Maybe she needs money.
This performance is so charming, simple, and captivating. If only opera directors could return to this style. It lets the music and drama speak for itself, which is always a GOOD THING! Ms. Piazza is completely charming and sings beautifully. Thanks for posting this.
Sianna53---I am in total agreement with you. The majority of these comments are tasteless, irrelevant and inappropriate. We should all enjoy this wonderful woman's talent.
Excuse me, I meant to say 'hard-core metal' or 'death metal' or something along those lines. Either way, it still explains why you don't like opera. :)
No you didn't. You meant to say exactly what you said. What are you gonna do, name every style of music until you guess what I'm into, by process of elimination? The music I am into has nothing to do with the fact that Opera sucks, AND you have just shown me that people who are into Opera are not very intelligent...
No, I actually did. Who are you to decide what I say and think? While you're reading my mind, go ahead and sue me... English is not my first language! I can't be perfect like you, a Canadian! Sometimes my words are incorrect for the situation or discussion because I didn't think of the right thing to say at the time, and realize my mistake later. The type of music you are into does not determine what other type of music you like; that's true. But, it does determine what type of person you are.
No, YOU were "reading MY mind" by ASSuming that I am into Country. So you made an ASS of yourself. And I'm NOT Canadian, so AGAIN, you prove that you are an IDIOT. I am AMERICAN, and I live in AMERICA (USA). Now go get a life before you embarrass yourself some more...
Actually, you listed your home country as Canada earlier today. I suppose you moved recently; and since your age changed as well, happy birthday! I didn't know someone could age 5-10 years in a day. I've not embarrassed myself, sir. There you go again, assuming things...!
Ah, so you are a liar now, as well as unintelligent! I know what I saw, sir. My eyes don't lie to me, as you do. This gets more fun by the minute! Keep chatting here, I'm having fun! It's good practice for my English, as well!
Look here you BITCH. I have NOT lied about ANYTHING. My information has been the SAME since I first JOINED YouTube. Stupid people really irritate me...
Oh, so you are a name-caller when you get angry and try to defend yourself! Very mature! Definitely a hard-core metal fan! Maybe you should stop listening to that music; it makes you angry, apparently!
I love it when people like you get mad, it really keeps me entertained! I even showed some of my mates this conversation, and they laughed at your silly replies! Good practice for English and even swearing! Thank you! And now, before I really DO retire from this odd, but strangely addictive conversation, I have one request more: stop lying! It will get you into trouble later in life, you know.
I just can't help myself commenting here, can I? It must be because I truly was not finished arguing with you earlier! Well, let's keep arguing, then.
And you, my friend, have shown me that people like you who are into whatever type of music it is that you're into (country, metal, whatever) are stubborn, unintelligent, and enjoy arguing with strangers over the internet. Sir, I wash my hands of this weirdness. Have a great night! :)
I had the honor of meeting Ms.Piazza recently, and her voice is no less impressive now as it was back then. To answer your question she does not and did not smoke, yet ironically was a advertisement model for Camel Tobacco. (Back when smoking was considered a good choice, mind you)
Brava!

How sad, in a way, to again be reminded of how American tastes have shifted from the sublime towards the ridiculous-and fetid.

Is there some way these comments, that have absolutely nothing to do with the video selection, be removed?
