@DartsRme312 They had. 20 of them. But no more after Gatlantis crashed right through them in Season 2, Ep. 21. There never was time or resources to make more of these.
Anyone notice...at 6:13, major error. The shot is a reuse of footage from the end of Arrivederci Yamato where the Yamato is clearly battered and damaged as it is about to ram Zodar's super dreadnaught. What was the director thinking!? Oh well, everything after Yamato 2 is crap anyways.
@dbonanno My criticism a year ago was a bit harsh. I always enjoy watching Yamato take to the skies and kick lots of ass! This movie has some really good animation and great fighter craft designs, it's just that, as films, New Voyage, Be Forever, and Final Yamato pale in comparison to the Quest for Iscandar series and Arrivederci Yamato. I love the Comet Empire series, too, even though the movie ending is much better. Arrivederci is the quintessential Yamato!
I just love Space Battleship Yamato as much as anyone else, but I always had one thing that I've always wanted to ask... Whenever the Yamato takes off from sea, the wave motion engine blasts out a large amount of energy. Wouldn't the heat from the enormous engine heat the water, thus making it unsuitable for life? Ah well, there must be some explanation for that.
Lets Say For The Heck of It The Yamato Departed In The Winter Season, The Water Would Be Colder, So When The "WAVE MOTION ENGINE" is Started And The Thrusters On, Then There A Minimal Effect. I Can Only Remember It Launching From The Water 4 Times.
1. From Iscandar DEPARTING "Season One"
2. From Earth "Season two, opening credits, aka MUTINY" (The Yamato Launches FAR From Land In That One Where The Water Is Deeper And Colder)
Captain Okita being revived from cryogenic sleep is actually the most plausible aspect of this unbelievable movie. What happened to the red galaxy, and how does Dinguil intend to live on Earth if even the Himilayas are underwater?
Earthlings dominated the solar system, but Earth remain the capital. Plenty of planets to live on even after Earth is under water, especially since such flood won't remain permanent. However, I agree that their plan was rather flawed, more like a way for producer to continue their style of 'universe is an endless ocean' feeling by introducing Aquarius and have the dynamic of sinking Yamato within its water; the water of birth and death for Earth. Symbolism ^_^
Also, if you look at the scene when Okita addresses the crew after they took off, you could see the shadow of the crew spread behind them, as if the light came 'from' Okita. It could be just the general lighting of the bridge but we don't see that 'before' Yamato took off. It's just some tiny details that's intriguing.
Kodai's expression when Okida faced him was a mix of awe, sadness, respect, fear, and hope. That scene was wonderfully done, shows that Kodai perceived his captain's revival almost as a good dream that may fade if he answers to the order immediately.

@schnellbomber87 Yamato is not a rocket; she must gain her speed as she approaches the space. She doesn't blast out on the surface level, I guess.
