Actually it's quite disappointing to see, because as Lovato said in class that at the mundials most of the Brazilians don't want to win by submission but just by points since they have four other guys to fight and they just want to win and move on. It's FAR safer and easier to stay in a position than it is to go for a submission, and all Marcelo did was hold him down and stay the hell away from Lovato's guard. Disappointing that Marcelo wouldn't try, being a God at grappling...

Marcelo won by the submission at the end of this video. I was at this event. It was a four man bracket that had mike fowler, garcia, lovato and one other black belt. This was the final.

Marcelo took Lovato down and passed his guard. He attempted an armbar, which he transitioned into an omoplata, which he transitioned into a sweep. Lovato recovered guard, which Marcelo passed again. He then went from side control to north south, to side control on the other side, to full mount, back to side control, to knee on belly, to side control again before finishing with an arm bar. There was nothing "safe" about it- he just dominated Lovato from start to finish.

I don't agree. Lovato was more than once sufficient in replacing a (half) guard and defending. Garcia set up the arm bar a couple times before he got to finish it during the fight. Let alone the armbar to omoplata at 1:08. I don't think you could call this stalling.

What are you talking about? He passed his guard, then maintained position as Lovato attempted to escape. He advanced position and even when he lost the mount, he stayed on side control, carefully working his way to the eventual position. That was PERFECT if I've ever seen it. Lovato got HANDLED. Sad only because I own a Lovato Jr. Lucky Gi. lol
