  • Final comment; The first time I saw you, a white European man speaking Dutch, I thought you were a real Dutch from, let's say, Limburg - the southern part of the kingdom. It is because your intonation is not so flat as the intonation heard from the people of North Holland. You said you had studied Dutch in a short time. You did a good job! Not all people can speak Dutch as well as you can. You must be proud of yourself. Keep on studying. Nice to know you.

  • (6) To make you sound like a real Dutch from North Holland, pronounce all l's in final positions with a dark-l (as in English) and never with a clear-l like in High German. (7) Pay attention on how the Dutch say "aa" as in "taal". You should open your mouth wide to make a clear long a /a:/.

  • (2) The pronunciation of "het" is /ǝt/ (with e Schwa). (3) The pronunciation of the ending -lijk as in "moeilijk" is /lǝk/. (4) The pronunciation of the word "mensen" (two hundred years ago spelled "Menschen" as in German) is always /'mɛnsǝn/, that is with a clear pure /s/. It may not be pronounced with a "sh" or "sch". (5) "zijn"/"to be" (am, is are, was were) is pronounced /zɛin/ and never /zain/ as in Hochdeutsch.

  • According to ABN (Algemeen Beschaafd Nederlands), the ending -r and –er /ǝr/ in “zeer” and “computer” is pronounced with an “alveolar-fricative-r” (Spanish trilled “r”) or with an “uvular-fricative-r” (German “r” as in “Bereich”). However, you pronounce it with a sound more like /a/ , namely vocalized “r” (vokalisiertes “r”) which is commonly heard in German - spoken with the accent called “die deutsche Bühnenaussprache” (Standard High German).

  • @megamarlousweekly Thanks for your compliments. :) It really means a lot from someone living in Holland. :)

  • Thank you very much. Yes, it's all done in just one week. And yes I actually do plan on continuing to learn this beautiful language. What I did to learn it is nothing special. Dutch has a very similar (if not the same) grammar as German so knowing German before learning Dutch is surely a great benefit. Then what I did for the most of the time is just learning the new vocabulary, I think I was learning about 200 words per day. That's actually all there is to it. :)

  • omg I'm sooo impressed...just one week? I don't speak dutch so I didn't understand what you were saying, but it sounded very good to me...:-)))

Will you continue to learn dutch? How did you learn it? I mean did you have a kind of book that you also use to learn the other languages that youre learning?
