  • This video is sooooooo incredibly bad. The terminology used is oudated, some of it offensive, and the video isn't captioned for access to Deaf and hard of hearing people.

  • Where the closed captioning? :(

  • Depending on your states' requirements, you will need at least a two year degree. OR become nationally certified through an intepreting governing board. RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) is that board. Some states only require their own testing. Good Luck

  • Glad I found this! Studying to be an interpreter and all...

  • @MusicMan53100 i want to become an interpreter, or a teacher of the deaf when I am out of highschool. I think I might become an interpreter though. What university/college? courses do i need... anything specific or just a interpretation degree? thanks in advance. how long would it take to finish the course(s)?

  • @pookymuffin101 : Starting June 2012 you will need to have a Bachelor's degree in order to get certified. However, the degree can be in anything so long as you have one. if you are not fluent in ASL or in interpretation skills (it takes a lot more than fluency to be able to interpret) you would be better off going to an interpreter training program. RIT is a top school, for Deaf studies (teaching available) try CSUN and I think UofA has a Deaf Studies prog. in the Special Ed. dept.

  • @pookymuffin101 Hi! If you are in or near TN, Maryville College is great for ASL-English Interpreting or ASL and Deaf studies. For Deaf Ed University of TN in Knoxville is great! We also have Pellissippi State Community college, thought many come to Maryville College for the Bachelor's Degree! It all depends on what you want to do!

  • @EclecticTrebleMaker1 heyy :) Thanks but I live in BC :p lol...

  • @pookymuffin101

Google says for BC, Douglas College and Vancouver Community College in the lower mainland have ASL courses. You can find out more from their sites. (It won't let me post a link. :-P ) Also ask your school's career counselor as well, they can look up what the requirements are in BC for a career as an interpreter.

I don't even know why this vid was in my recommends, and I don't know ASL myself, but I hope that might help? :-D

  • @CaffieneKitty thanks :) ur so helpful :) Can I major in interp, or is it minor?

  • @pookymuffin101

Like I said, I just Google, I know nothing myself, but if you ask your school counsellor or take a look at the college websites, they will help you find the answers you need. Good luck! :-)

  • @CaffieneKitty kk thanks :) i'll check with them ASAP!

  • @pookymuffin101 The field is growing so the number of existing schools offering bachelors or associates are growing. Online schooling is a choice too with the help of specialized webcams like at Troy university! I am just naming all of the schools that I have learned of or have met people here in TN. :) Good luck on your search! :)

  • @EclecticTrebleMaker1 maybe where you live, but certainly not here.
