MMA Strikers cant compete with pro boxers??? a prime Mirko Crocop would KO ANY BOXER IN HISTORY, PERIOD. as for pure fighting athleticism Boxers JUST CAN'T COMPARE...They fall way behind martial artists, single form combat diciplines such as Muey Thai, Kenpo, Jujitsu, Aquido Kick Boxers (k1) ALL would demolish Boxing..in striking the end...
Randy wins, first he'll work the inner leg kicks, push James to the cage, work some dirty boxing, lastly take it to the ground. James won't have the energy to get up nor defend himself, and Randy wins with GnP.( Reminds me of hardy and George, hardy said he'll win with boxing, he's a rounded MMA fighter and George opened a can of woop*ss on him) My advise for James, visit the nearest hospital and find a bodybag that fits snug.
Absolutely ridiculous that people think this is actually "boxing vs MMA". It is ONE fight. Does that mean boxing/MMA is better because of one outcome? Of course not. However, there has already been numerous boxer vs MMA fights, and MMA has won most.
@meaning1 its the classic match up init striker vs grappler happens all the time in mma and the grappler normally wins. especially if you are like james toney and dont know nothing on the ground
@thebiigbrother That was more like BJJ vs Every other martial art....and also, thats only where the UFC evolved from, not MMA. There was already Shooto and Vale Tudo tournaments going on way before. In fact, you can argue that Pankration matches were the original Mixed Martial Arts events (although it is a single martial art), and Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do philosophy was the original form of MMA.
@Charkoly2 if u r talking to me who are you mate what have you done. your the one who needs to do research because you havnt got a clue what ur talking about
@Charkoly2 my point was james tony never stood a chance against a ground fighter and point proven. what are you on about all these other martial arts for i dont know because mma is whatever martial arts you have learnt all mixed together to orm the ultimate machine
That point didn't even need to be proven, it was practically a given. What boxing needs to prove, is that the level of standup in MMA isn't at the level of boxing (in terms of punching), and hopefully, they can bring it up to that level. People like Junior Dos Santos, Shane Carwin, and Cain Velasquez are all boxers, that are successful in the UFC, but would get killed in boxing. So why not bring in better boxers into MMA? That's all I'm saying.
@Charkoly2 are you stupid? because no fighter is going to stand and fight them they are going to take them down and submit them. you have to know more than just boxing mma is all round fighting nt just stand up or just ground work. you may make it to the top with just a ground game because its intelligent fighting. if you can submit guys easily then you can finnish the fight from any position on the ground. if you can control a fight on top your going to dominate the fight.
MMA has had almost every other sport represented well, by champion-level practitioners of Sambo, Sanshou, Kickboxing, Bjj, Judo, Karate, Wrestling, Muay Thai, Taekwondo....basically every style you can find in MMA, has a top fighter representing that style. Every good boxer you see in the UFC wasn't even good enough to box professionally. So imagine, instead of Marcus Davis or Alessio Sakara, you had Miguel Cotto and Amir Khan, instead. The bar would be raised for striking in MMA.
@Charkoly2 yes but all of the above mentioned is more than just punching and any gd stand up fighter knows a boxers weekness his legs and will keep a distance and kick his legs till he havnt got a spring in his step, his hands will start dropping to protect his leg then its time to knock him out. boxers need to close the distance before they can attack. a wrestler will take them dwn or judo bjj sambo they havnt gt a chance basically. its called mma for a reason mate
Dude, i'm not in favor of boxing over MMA. To make it simple, I see MMA as a melting pot of different fighting styles used in combination with others to win a fight. But, what I noticed, is there is barely any boxing in the cage. Now obviously, i'm not expecting to see a boxer go in and just win with boxing alone, because we all know how that will turn out, but I do want to see young, upcoming professional boxers transition into MMA. That's all I've been saying.
@Charkoly2 you cant become the best boxer in the world and have the best ground game in the world aswell its going to take you hell of alot of time. i a world class boxer started to learn say bjj for instance then he would have to leave out his boxing training if he wanted to become good enough to compete with the top level ground fighters. they could work on their take down defence but if you come up against sombody gd enough then there is no stopping a takedown. people like gsp chaer sonnen
@Charkoly2 but as a style on style it can be tricky for a boxer to fully use what he has learnt for so many years. all these answers arnt replies to any of your comments im just trying to give you a bigger idea of what mixed martial arts is all about
Trust me, I know what MMA is about; I don't need to be shown the bigger picture. I know i'm coming across as a boxing fanboy, but honestly, I know more about MMA than boxing. Plus, i'm not looking at it from a style vs style perspective, i'm looking at how boxing is incorporated in to MMA. There are already fighters that use boxing as their primary striking style. What I want to see, is better boxers transition in to MMA. Understand?
@Charkoly2 yes but what you want is a world champ boxer to be a world champ mma fighter from what your saying. maybe you dont know enough about boxing to realise that a world champ boxer isnt going to make it in mma. how can you change what youve learnt for so many yrs, stance wise strinking wise they are going to be out o their comort zone. plus the time as a specified before a world champ boxer trains 5 hrs a day where is he going to find time to make the transition its not going to happen
@Charkoly2 boxing or any stand up style is a small part of mma. boxers who use their striking to great effect still have been learning mma for years. they was pro boxers so they are professional fighters/athletes theyve had time to make the transition but not improving on their boxing skills as much as they could have maybe they would have been worldchamp boxers in the future but chose mma. you asked the question ive given you the answer and you dont like what ive said
@Charkoly2 its like saying why dont a footballer kick for a rugby team. hed have to learn how to play rugby first wouldnt he. then his kicking wouldnt be as gd as it was before
You are completely taking this the wrong way. It's not about whether Cain Velasquez's boxing is good enough. It's obviously good enough for him, because it gave him the #1 contender spot. The question is: If boxing has been proven to be a legitimate form of striking in UFC, than why isn't it being displayed at a skill level equivalent to that of the BJJ, Sambo, Karate, Wrestling, Muay Thai, and Sanshou that is also utilized in MMA?
@Charkoly2 well thats as gd as the boxings going to get in ufc he can knock people out in the first round what more do you want. if you can knock somebody out in the first round then you dont need better striking and its about time you learned other techniques. cain valasqez is a wrestler but adapted tp mma by learning kickboxing
@Charkoly2 cant you understand that your ground game is much more important than your striking game? you have a one track mind mate and im not willng to carry this convo on any further. why dont you become a world class boxer world class wrestler and become the best to ever live? or teach your kids too then you can come back and say you talk a load of shit but until then im not talking to you again
You say that I have a "one track mind", when you're saying that "ground game is MORE important" than your stand up! Tell that to any professional fighter, and they'll bitch slap the fuck out of you for being so retarded. Stand up striking is JUST AS important as your ground game. Saying that one is more important than the other is very ignorant. If your opponent is primary striker, and has good takedown defense, than you're screwed, because you chose to hit the mat some more instead of the bag.
@Charkoly2 silva didnt say that after fighting sonnen. nobody says it fighting gsp. carwin didnt say it after fighting lesnar. bj penn didnt say it after fighting edgar. and alot of fighters lose then say why didnt u stand and fight me like a man. you need to step in the cage and lose a few fights then ull realise ur playing the wrong game
If you don't want to continue this conversation, then stop replying, but i'm not going to leave any insult, unanswered. It only takes 30 seconds out of my day, so I can go at this for as long you can keep going ;)
@thebiigbrother You are replying to too many of my comments, so i'm not able to keep track of what we're talking about, unless you give me a quote. Instead of replying to 5 different comments, if you actually want to continue discussing this, than send me a PM, and put everything into one letter.
@Charkoly2 rashad evans, edgar, they all prove this. people like to think that they can stop takedowns and make a fighter stand and fight but its not going to happen. silva has got hell of a sprawl on him but how would he stop the takedown of sonnen. only when he was tired he could do that. its called mma for a reason because you need a mixture of martial arts.
@Charkoly2 the reason there are other stand up fighting styles in there is because they dont put as much work into their style as a top class boxer so they have time to work on other areas. if a boxer makes the transition when hes young then 5-10 yrs down the line he will be a top class fighter but its not going to happen over night
@thebiigbrother plus boxing style fighting isnt well suited for mma really it does need some adaptions. a boxer like to get in close to fully utilise his punching techniques which makes it easy to grab the clinch thats why tehy are not aloud to grab hold in a boxing fight because people want to watch them box. a boxer will also stand with his front leg further forward than any other fighting style which leaves him open for leg kicks or takedowns. boxers may beable to box
@Charkoly2 what im trying to say is mma is mma boxing is boxing they are to different sports if you want to watch boxing with little gloves go and watch unlicensed boxing or better still if you want to watch boxing with no gloves go and watch illegal boxing. if you dont like mma dont watch it. simple as
@MrCrazyAsshole This guy is really fucking annoying me, its like he learned english yesterday and shouts it out with no rhythm. He doesn't talk to us, he shouts at us.
@jagdjohn96 Everybody already knows that dickhead. That wasn't the point I waS MAKING. Kimbo was in it for the money...bottom line Ray owned MMA on that night by knocking out Tim Sylvia!!
lol mma fans think james toneys gonna actually try and box in an mma match. people forget that every single boxer on the planet was a fighter aka street fighter before they started boxing and mma is basicly a high level street fight with a few rules
I don't get this argument, they're two different sports. They're two different styles of fighting. Boxing, you train to only punch, to avoid punches, to defend against punches and to counter punches. Throwing solid combos requires one to plant there feet, if you plant you're feet in mma, you will get taken down or get them kicked out from under you. A boxing stance leaves a fighter more susceptible to leg kicks and gives a person less balance. Either fighter would have to change his skill set.
james toney is a 40 year old lookin for a good payday hes willing to disgrace the world of boxing for a few million dollars could you imagine if manny pacquiao or a prime mike tyson got in the octagon ppl wud get killed these mma fighters are so overrated. heres a fact did you know boxing was invented so you didnt have to see two gay ppl roll around on the floor like two girls havin a little scrap in tight speedos its pathetic its not fighting its wrestling with the occasianal punch thrown
@eddie4ever6197 i have watched mma but its not mixed martial arts when you think of martial arts you think of taekwondo or kung fu etc not wrestling and mma is wrestling how can you find it exciting to watch 2 men rolling around on the floor its so boring your not a boxing fan and you never have been you dont understand boxing its a real fight wrestling is not a form of fighting its a joke they cant fight for shit i could beat randy couture in a boxing match and im only ametuer
I would have to agree with you on most of what you said but if someone just mounts you and you can't get them the fuck off then you better get the phone book and schedule a appointment for your false teeth cuz your gonna get messed up pretty bad
@xvegeta13 lol! Randy is gonna be the first man too finish Toney and it will be from the mount most likely. Notable fact, Randy hits with 500 pounds on the feet, but with 2000 pounds in the mount. James "his lights will be out on august 28th" Toney.
@ben221191 mma is fighting, boxing is only ONE form of fighting. MMA in an actual street fight obviously kicks the shit out of boxing. maybe toney should have tried dancing with the stars instead.
@304teddy mma is a cowards sport they dont take real hits to the head cos theyre rolling around on the floor there has never been a good mma fight at most a boxer will throw over 1000 punches in a fight and land good percentge of them in mma they barely throw anything they just go for the takedown and hammerpunch eachother in the head like girls and try and make eachother tap the floor the only way to find out who is the tougher man they have to fight like men with just their fists
@ben221191 top mma guys would kick the shit out of top boxers in a real fight-thats just the way it is. you can call it cowardice or whatever but the mma guys are the real badasses.
@304teddy how can you say that when youve probably never had a fight i wouldnt box in a streetfight i would kick them in the balls and stamp all over them you know nothing boxing has been around since humans evolved it was invented so you dont have to watch two men rolling around on the floor its the hardest fighting style to master i didnt think a fat old james toney had a chance in ufc but after watching a few fights i think it should be an easy night for him
@ben221191 used to street fight for fun, still do on occasion. ill take a boxer over an mma guy anyday. boxers have boxing and NOTHING else. MMA guys have boxing and so much more. im far from a pro anything but ive been down to the gym and had those guys roll me a time or two.
@ben221191 haha~ On other hand, boxers have a big pair of mittens wrapped around their fists. Sure, they are brave men. Did u watch the match between Couture & Toney? Toney was at the receiving end throughout the entire match. What happen to all the knockout punches Toney promised? I guess he just couldn't deliver.
@Tinger1974 i did watch the wrestling match between toney and couture and it went exactly how i thought it would go couture even admited if he tried to stand and fight like a man he would have been knocked out quick because hes not a real man wrestling isnt a fighting style put randy in a boxing ring and hell get knocked out with a jab what with his glass chin wrestling is for cowards like you get in the ring and then try and tell me its for pussies or better yet come fight me you mouthy cunt
@ben221191 Coutours A HUMBLE GUY, i WOULDN'T COUNT HIM OUT OF ANY type of fight in any style with anyone...EVER, and as I mentioned before, if we were back in the days of Rome in the arena with no ref to save Toney, Toney's body would be laying in a heap right now for lion food
@ben221191 Couture was clearly a class act. He said those things (namely, he could have been knocked out and etc.) solely with a view to save Toney's helpless career and the reputations for all boxers. Further, "oh, how I am a boxer and don't have necessary training to fight anyone who isn't a boxer" is just a load of bull crap. U either win or lose in a fight. Toney lost PERIOD. Finally, not only u have a low IQ but also a low EQ. If u want to fight, go fight your silly boxers.
@Tinger1974 no one in ufc can stand and fight with a boxer cos they dont have half the skill a boxer does manny pacquiao can land 6 deadly punches on you in 1 second and look at vitali klitscho he has like a 94% knockout rate with those big mittens wraped around his hands no one in mma can compare with that when it comes to striking. bare knuckle he wud kill someone in mma when they stand and fight they really do look like ametuers boxers need ten ounce gloves so they dont break their hands
@ben221191 No one in the UFC can stand and fight with a boxer? Ray Mercer who had a boxing record of 44:7 was easily defeated by a bum, Kimbo Slice, who had absolutely no proper training of any kind. Further, must I remind u that Ray Mercer had also been defeated each time he stepped into the ring of Kickboxing. He lost to Bonjasky in 2005 and Musashi in 2004 quickly. Your above comment is really groundless here especially in the light of recent development.
@Tinger1974 and look at brock lesner he took like a 12 year break from real wrestling to perfect fake wrestling moves and learn how to act and then decided to do ufc and after a year of training he was world champion nothing like that has ever happened in boxing since it existed you need ten straight wins minimum just to be considered for a british or commonwealth title and then after a few defences u fight for a european title and after that u finally make it to the world stage
@ben221191 i bet u didnt know brock lesnar is one of the best wrestlers in the world div 1 champ. dont get me started on the 3000 belts in 1 weight class in boxing in boxing u can fight as many bums as u want cough cough ray robinson
@ben221191 Inside the Octagon, a challenger basically has the options to adopt whatever fighting styles he wants. Toney could have either adopted boxing or other forms of martial art which I believe that the Octagon is a fair venue to show who is a better fighter. I do not believe by placing a limitation on what a fighter can do inside a ring is a fair action. Asking Couture to fight under the rules of boxing is like asking a fighter to do fencing in a ring against another fencing opponent.
@Tinger1974 have you noticed that every great fighter you have in mma has lost and hasnt really fought alot of bouts this is because you can get lucky in ufc with the submisions and stuff where as in boxing the better man wins every time and couture was being serious he even explained hes gameplan after the fight james toneys career was over a long time ago thats why he came to ufc i thought that would be pretty obvious hes 41 and you cant teach an old dog new tricks
@ben221191 As a matter of fact, I have not noticed that. A lot of good MMA fighters have impressive winning records. You obviously have not studied the statistics long enough. As far as your "luck" comment is concerned, if YOU can win a fight under the rules of the UFC, then I may consider withdrawing some of my positive comments about the MMA or UFC. Until then, your comment is nothing but hypertherical.
@Tinger1974 so your saying that because a 50 year old ray mercer was tapped out by kimbo they are more effective in a standup fight go and take a look at both the boxing and mma p4p rankings and compare the fighters records then u will see the difference and you will see what i mean by luck if you look at a fighter like sugar ray robinson (the greatest boxer of all time) he once worked his record up to 128 wins and 1 loss and julio caesar chavez had a 87 fight win streak these are great fighters
@sultoon16289 i know hes old my point is you cant teach an old dog new tricks well it works the same way with james toney he cant learn how to wrestle if he'd have done this a few years ago he would kill randy but now he should just retire
They taught Walker new tricks. It may not have been a big name that Walker beat, but the guy was probably training for MMA for most of his life while Walker just stepped in.
What most MMA fighters under-estimate is the speed, power, and accuracy of a professional boxer. Sorry to say, but compared to pro-boxers, the top UFC strikers look like chumps. What grapplers and wrestlers have to worry about the most is getting caught. Most wrestlers will set up a take-down with a punch combo, or shoot as a counter to the opponents punch. Randy will have to play it safe when going for the take-down, because he won't be able to time Toney's punches like he would anyone else.
@Charkoly2 I am giving Toney more of a chance than most...I think. If the fight isn't on the mat in 30 seconds, my heart will start to pound...because then Randy might be the first death in MMA.
Great post, I agree. Another underestimated issue here is the height difference. In order for a grappler to be out of danger from a quality striker and in position to do what he does best he needs to get UNDER his opponent. Toney is 5'9" to Couture's 6'1" and on top of that Toney usually bends down to make himself much smaller when he fights.
@Charkoly2 Toney is not trained in any grappling or avoiding takedowns. Randy Couture is olympic calibur wrestler. In fact the only wrestling match Randy ever lost was to Mark Coleman in NCAA wrestling in 1989. That goes to show that Randy is elite level wrestler and 6 months of MMA trianing is not enough to stuff takedowns from a wrestler of Randy's calibur. Randy can set up a takedown even without faking a strike. He has very little to worryu about Toney stuffing a takedown.
james toney does know how to avoid takedowns and im sure he knows grappling too...and i believe he is far better than any of us think he at it too...it just wont be enough to compete with coutures level.
@Charkoly2 yes, obviously at boxing boxers are better. but at fighting MMA is WAY better. in an actual fight the boxer is getting killed. thats like putting an interior decorator up against a carpenter to build a house. sure the interior decorator can hang curtains like no ones business but thats only a small part of building a house.
When it comes to MMA, boxers have to worry about kicks, mainly leg-kicks. The other threat is being taken down and submitted or pounded. A third threat is the clinch, which can result in a throw/take-down or in dirty boxing(MT clinch). What James Toney needs to learn is how to sprawl, and leg-kick defense. Now facing a greco-roman wrestler/dirty boxer like Randy, what James has to worry about is getting backed up into the cage and getting tossed, and taking those knees to the face and body.
@dirtyjew1974 you could also say that Courture has a wrestlers chance..because his punching will not bother Toney..and if he tries to punch toney will counter with combos that will knock him out. So the only way he will win is through wrestling.
@BringerOfTheTruth randy can win a thousand different ways, toney can only get lucky. GnP, dirty boxing, armbar, triangle, rear naked choke, etc, etc.
dont think that toney just knows how to box. he has been chasing dana white for a while now. he knows how to fight with more than his hands. he does not box like floyd mayweather, toney is a tough, mean dude who makes people go lights out.. he is a ring legend in boxing and can knock anyone out at any weight. i still think that randy will take him down and out wrestle him, but toney has more of a chance than people think.
mma is more efficient you got punches kicks knees elbows and grabs while boxing only have punches you cant just learn to box and walk up to someone like i can kick your ass cause your a champ in a boxing ring cause yall never experience reals kicks and knees elbows or even grabbling and you dont know what it can do till you see it for example that low kick forrest gave rampage is what boxers are not ready for and mma is trained for that they are ready for kicks and grabs mma is just better
FIrst off you idiots, unless randy dives at james toneys legs and takes him down, he will get KTFO by JT, JT will be working with Frank mir.....James toney said " I know more than you think i know" to dana white i cant wait
If James actually takes this seriously I think James could win. But I haven't heard of him coming to any major wrestiling gyms/ teams to help him out with his wrestling. If he just relys on his boxing skills he's gonna have a long night.
@periechontology after randy destroys your boy i want you to come back to this post and tell all the mma fans in here that we are right and we own boxing
@jollywolly55 St. Pierre is good but can't hang with "Bad" Chad Dawson. I don't think he will beat the new Middleweight Champion Sergio Martinez either. A pure boxer in his prime like Mayweather against a Prime MMA fighter in Bj Penn wouldn't look good. Take any prime MMA guy against a Prime boxer and its "Lights Out" for sure. Just imagine what David Haye Or Wladimir Klitschko do to a Brock Lesnar?
@ryakenn How is it a fact. Has it been proven? And put someone like a Brock Lesnar vs. Mike Tyson in his prime (Killed in the 1st round), or even, 1 of the Klitschko brothers and you wouldn't see Mr. Lesnar getting thru thier jab. Boxing has a more richer history than MMA. MMA is still an infant taking its 1st steps so to speak.
@elio646 Obviously you have never been in a fight in your life. Knowing how to throw a punch is good but knowing how to throw a punch and a head kick and know how to slam someone and control them on the ground will get you a lot further in any fight anywhere inside or outside of a cage.
thats like putting manny vs anderson silva who thinks he can handle a true boxer, he is incredible in mma but put him in a boxing ring with a top fighter, hel get ko
@hollywars27 Are you serious???? Anderson Silva will demolish Little Pacquiao. Have you ever seen Anderson Silva fight before??? And Yeah he's fought a few fights as a professional boxer as well. Plus the size difference is ridiculous. 6'2'' against Pacquiao whose like 5'6'' tall. If you were to say Anderson Silva vs. Chad Dawson, Andre Ward, or even the retired welsh-man Joe Calzaghe then you saying something.
@elio646 to be honest, pac is the only one who came to my mind at the time, i dont know about silva demolishing pac, but the others guys u mentioned would give him a beating, but i feel like a top ww in boxing can hit just as hard or even harder than a MW in mma.
@ashjudd lol Couture won't dodge 2 punches from Toney. Infact if he even dodges one it will probably be because he was already shooting in. Randy dosen't have the timing to see a Toney shot and then dodge it.
@periechontology My point is that Toney's only chance is to catch couture coming in for the clinch or double leg. Couture won't stand in Toney's effective range.
@chingon711 Couture vs Toney is happening at UFC 118 on August 28th, most likely in Boston. It'll be on PPV i imagine. It's also the Frankie Edgars vs Bj Penn rematch fight for the lightweight title which Edgar just took from Penn. That's the main event, Edgar vs Penn 2. Right now it's just called UFC 118 though, they'll change it once they start promoting it.

@Charkoly2 you cant become the best boxer in the world and have the best ground game in the world aswell its going to take you hell of alot of time. i a world class boxer started to learn say bjj for instance then he would have to leave out his boxing training if he wanted to become good enough to compete with the top level ground fighters. they could work on their take down defence but if you come up against sombody gd enough then there is no stopping a takedown. people like gsp chaer sonnen
thebiigbrother 1 year ago
@Charkoly2 but as a style on style it can be tricky for a boxer to fully use what he has learnt for so many years. all these answers arnt replies to any of your comments im just trying to give you a bigger idea of what mixed martial arts is all about
thebiigbrother 1 year ago
Trust me, I know what MMA is about; I don't need to be shown the bigger picture. I know i'm coming across as a boxing fanboy, but honestly, I know more about MMA than boxing. Plus, i'm not looking at it from a style vs style perspective, i'm looking at how boxing is incorporated in to MMA. There are already fighters that use boxing as their primary striking style. What I want to see, is better boxers transition in to MMA. Understand?
Charkoly2 1 year ago
@Charkoly2 yes but what you want is a world champ boxer to be a world champ mma fighter from what your saying. maybe you dont know enough about boxing to realise that a world champ boxer isnt going to make it in mma. how can you change what youve learnt for so many yrs, stance wise strinking wise they are going to be out o their comort zone. plus the time as a specified before a world champ boxer trains 5 hrs a day where is he going to find time to make the transition its not going to happen
thebiigbrother 1 year ago
@Charkoly2 boxing or any stand up style is a small part of mma. boxers who use their striking to great effect still have been learning mma for years. they was pro boxers so they are professional fighters/athletes theyve had time to make the transition but not improving on their boxing skills as much as they could have maybe they would have been worldchamp boxers in the future but chose mma. you asked the question ive given you the answer and you dont like what ive said
thebiigbrother 1 year ago
@Charkoly2 its like saying why dont a footballer kick for a rugby team. hed have to learn how to play rugby first wouldnt he. then his kicking wouldnt be as gd as it was before
thebiigbrother 1 year ago
@Charkoly2 whats wrong with cain valasquez's boxing? is he not good enough for you?
thebiigbrother 1 year ago
You are completely taking this the wrong way. It's not about whether Cain Velasquez's boxing is good enough. It's obviously good enough for him, because it gave him the #1 contender spot. The question is: If boxing has been proven to be a legitimate form of striking in UFC, than why isn't it being displayed at a skill level equivalent to that of the BJJ, Sambo, Karate, Wrestling, Muay Thai, and Sanshou that is also utilized in MMA?
Charkoly2 1 year ago
@Charkoly2 well thats as gd as the boxings going to get in ufc he can knock people out in the first round what more do you want. if you can knock somebody out in the first round then you dont need better striking and its about time you learned other techniques. cain valasqez is a wrestler but adapted tp mma by learning kickboxing
thebiigbrother 1 year ago
@Charkoly2 cant you understand that your ground game is much more important than your striking game? you have a one track mind mate and im not willng to carry this convo on any further. why dont you become a world class boxer world class wrestler and become the best to ever live? or teach your kids too then you can come back and say you talk a load of shit but until then im not talking to you again
thebiigbrother 1 year ago
You say that I have a "one track mind", when you're saying that "ground game is MORE important" than your stand up! Tell that to any professional fighter, and they'll bitch slap the fuck out of you for being so retarded. Stand up striking is JUST AS important as your ground game. Saying that one is more important than the other is very ignorant. If your opponent is primary striker, and has good takedown defense, than you're screwed, because you chose to hit the mat some more instead of the bag.
Charkoly2 1 year ago
@Charkoly2 silva didnt say that after fighting sonnen. nobody says it fighting gsp. carwin didnt say it after fighting lesnar. bj penn didnt say it after fighting edgar. and alot of fighters lose then say why didnt u stand and fight me like a man. you need to step in the cage and lose a few fights then ull realise ur playing the wrong game

Charkoly2 1 year ago
@Charkoly2 rashad evans, edgar, they all prove this. people like to think that they can stop takedowns and make a fighter stand and fight but its not going to happen. silva has got hell of a sprawl on him but how would he stop the takedown of sonnen. only when he was tired he could do that. its called mma for a reason because you need a mixture of martial arts.
thebiigbrother 1 year ago
@Charkoly2 the reason there are other stand up fighting styles in there is because they dont put as much work into their style as a top class boxer so they have time to work on other areas. if a boxer makes the transition when hes young then 5-10 yrs down the line he will be a top class fighter but its not going to happen over night
thebiigbrother 1 year ago
@thebiigbrother plus boxing style fighting isnt well suited for mma really it does need some adaptions. a boxer like to get in close to fully utilise his punching techniques which makes it easy to grab the clinch thats why tehy are not aloud to grab hold in a boxing fight because people want to watch them box. a boxer will also stand with his front leg further forward than any other fighting style which leaves him open for leg kicks or takedowns. boxers may beable to box
thebiigbrother 1 year ago
@Charkoly2 what im trying to say is mma is mma boxing is boxing they are to different sports if you want to watch boxing with little gloves go and watch unlicensed boxing or better still if you want to watch boxing with no gloves go and watch illegal boxing. if you dont like mma dont watch it. simple as

lol mma fans think james toneys gonna actually try and box in an mma match. people forget that every single boxer on the planet was a fighter aka street fighter before they started boxing and mma is basicly a high level street fight with a few rules
thickncute420 1 year ago
I don't get this argument, they're two different sports. They're two different styles of fighting. Boxing, you train to only punch, to avoid punches, to defend against punches and to counter punches. Throwing solid combos requires one to plant there feet, if you plant you're feet in mma, you will get taken down or get them kicked out from under you. A boxing stance leaves a fighter more susceptible to leg kicks and gives a person less balance. Either fighter would have to change his skill set.

@xvegeta13 lol! Randy is gonna be the first man too finish Toney and it will be from the mount most likely. Notable fact, Randy hits with 500 pounds on the feet, but with 2000 pounds in the mount. James "his lights will be out on august 28th" Toney.
jagdjohn96 1 year ago
@ben221191 mma is fighting, boxing is only ONE form of fighting. MMA in an actual street fight obviously kicks the shit out of boxing. maybe toney should have tried dancing with the stars instead.
304teddy 1 year ago
@304teddy mma is a cowards sport they dont take real hits to the head cos theyre rolling around on the floor there has never been a good mma fight at most a boxer will throw over 1000 punches in a fight and land good percentge of them in mma they barely throw anything they just go for the takedown and hammerpunch eachother in the head like girls and try and make eachother tap the floor the only way to find out who is the tougher man they have to fight like men with just their fists
ben221191 1 year ago
@ben221191 top mma guys would kick the shit out of top boxers in a real fight-thats just the way it is. you can call it cowardice or whatever but the mma guys are the real badasses.
304teddy 1 year ago
@304teddy how can you say that when youve probably never had a fight i wouldnt box in a streetfight i would kick them in the balls and stamp all over them you know nothing boxing has been around since humans evolved it was invented so you dont have to watch two men rolling around on the floor its the hardest fighting style to master i didnt think a fat old james toney had a chance in ufc but after watching a few fights i think it should be an easy night for him
ben221191 1 year ago
@ben221191 used to street fight for fun, still do on occasion. ill take a boxer over an mma guy anyday. boxers have boxing and NOTHING else. MMA guys have boxing and so much more. im far from a pro anything but ive been down to the gym and had those guys roll me a time or two.

@ben221191 haha~ On other hand, boxers have a big pair of mittens wrapped around their fists. Sure, they are brave men. Did u watch the match between Couture & Toney? Tinger1974 1 year ago
@Tinger1974 i did watch the wrestling match between toney and couture and it went exactly how i thought it would go couture even admited if he tried to stand and fight like a man he would have been knocked out quick because hes not a real man wrestling isnt a fighting style put randy in a boxing ring and hell get knocked out with a jab what with his glass chin wrestling is for cowards like you get in the ring and then try and tell me its for pussies or better yet come fight me you mouthy cunt
ben221191 1 year ago
@ben221191 Coutours A HUMBLE GUY, i WOULDN'T COUNT HIM OUT OF ANY type of fight in any style with anyone...EVER, and as I mentioned before, if we were back in the days of Rome in the arena with no ref to save Toney, Toney's body would be laying in a heap right now for lion food
fishking111 1 year ago
@ben221191 Couture was clearly a class act. He said those things (namely, he could have been knocked out and etc.) solely with a view to save Toney's helpless career and the reputations for all boxers. Further, "oh, how I am a boxer and don't have necessary training to fight anyone who isn't a boxer" is just a load of bull crap. U either win or lose in a fight. Toney lost PERIOD. Finally, not only u have a low IQ but also a low EQ. If u want to fight, go fight your silly boxers.
Tinger1974 1 year ago
@Tinger1974 no one in ufc can stand and fight with a boxer cos they dont have half the skill a boxer does manny pacquiao can land 6 deadly punches on you in 1 second and look at vitali klitscho he has like a 94% knockout rate with those big mittens wraped around his hands no one in mma can compare with that when it comes to striking. bare knuckle he wud kill someone in mma when they stand and fight they really do look like ametuers boxers need ten ounce gloves so they dont break their hands
ben221191 1 year ago
@ben221191 No one in the UFC can stand and fight with a boxer? Ray Mercer who had a boxing record of 44:7 was easily defeated by a bum, Kimbo Slice, who had absolutely no proper training of any kind. Further, must I remind u that Ray Mercer had also been defeated each time he stepped into the ring of Kickboxing. He lost to Bonjasky in 2005 and Musashi in 2004 quickly. Your above comment is really groundless here especially in the light of recent development.
Tinger1974 1 year ago
@Tinger1974 and look at brock lesner he took like a 12 year break from real wrestling to perfect fake wrestling moves and learn how to act and then decided to do ufc and after a year of training he was world champion nothing like that has ever happened in boxing since it existed you need ten straight wins minimum just to be considered for a british or commonwealth title and then after a few defences u fight for a european title and after that u finally make it to the world stage
ben221191 1 year ago
@ben221191 i bet u didnt know brock lesnar is one of the best wrestlers in the world div 1 champ. dont get me started on the 3000 belts in 1 weight class in boxing in boxing u can fight as many bums as u want cough cough ray robinson

@ben221191 besides cain and shane fucked his ass up easily
ageeeeeeeeee 7 months ago
@ben221191 Inside the Octagon, a challenger basically has the options to adopt whatever fighting styles he wants. Toney could have either adopted boxing or other forms of martial art which I believe that the Octagon is a fair venue to show who is a better fighter. I do not believe by placing a limitation on what a fighter can do inside a ring is a fair action. Asking Couture to fight under the rules of boxing is like asking a fighter to do fencing in a ring against another fencing opponent.
Tinger1974 1 year ago
@Tinger1974 have you noticed that every great fighter you have in mma has lost and hasnt really fought alot of bouts this is because you can get lucky in ufc with the submisions and stuff where as in boxing the better man wins every time and couture was being serious he even explained hes gameplan after the fight james toneys career was over a long time ago thats why he came to ufc i thought that would be pretty obvious hes 41 and you cant teach an old dog new tricks
ben221191 1 year ago
@ben221191 As a matter of fact, I have not noticed that. A lot of good MMA fighters have impressive winning records. You obviously have not studied the statistics long enough. As far as your "luck" comment is concerned, if YOU can win a fight under the rules of the UFC, then I may consider withdrawing some of my positive comments about the MMA or UFC. Until then, your comment is nothing but hypertherical.
Tinger1974 1 year ago
@Tinger1974 so your saying that because a 50 year old ray mercer was tapped out by kimbo they are more effective in a standup fight go and take a look at both the boxing and mma p4p rankings and compare the fighters records then u will see the difference and you will see what i mean by luck if you look at a fighter like sugar ray robinson (the greatest boxer of all time) he once worked his record up to 128 wins and 1 loss and julio caesar chavez had a 87 fight win streak these are great fighters

periechontology 1 year ago
What most MMA fighters under-estimate is the speed, power, and accuracy of a professional boxer. Sorry to say, but compared to pro-boxers, the top UFC strikers look like chumps. What grapplers and wrestlers have to worry about the most is getting caught. Most wrestlers will set up a take-down with a punch combo, or shoot as a counter to the opponents punch. Randy will have to play it safe when going for the take-down, because he won't be able to time Toney's punches like he would anyone else.
Charkoly2 1 year ago
@Charkoly2 I am giving Toney more of a chance than most...I think. If the fight isn't on the mat in 30 seconds, my heart will start to pound...because then Randy might be the first death in MMA.
Deej1188 1 year ago
@Charkoly2
Couture has his hands full here.
periechontology 1 year ago
@periechontology Ya right Randy took down Chuck Liddell on numerous occasions.
jagdjohn96 1 year ago
@Charkoly2 Toney is not trained in any grappling or avoiding takedowns. Randy Couture is olympic calibur wrestler. In fact the only wrestling match Randy ever lost was to Mark Coleman in NCAA wrestling in 1989. That goes to show that Randy is elite level wrestler and 6 months of MMA trianing is not enough to stuff takedowns from a wrestler of Randy's calibur. Randy can set up a takedown even without faking a strike. He has very little to worryu about Toney stuffing a takedown.
Uppercut416 1 year ago
@Uppercut416
james toney does know how to avoid takedowns and im sure he knows grappling too...and i believe he is far better than any of us think he at it too...it just wont be enough to compete with coutures level.
TerminatorFanGame 1 year ago
@Charkoly2 yes, obviously at boxing boxers are better. but at fighting MMA is WAY better. in an actual fight the boxer is getting killed. thats like putting an interior decorator up against a carpenter to build a house. sure the interior decorator can hang curtains like no ones business but thats only a small part of building a house.
304teddy 1 year ago
When it comes to MMA, boxers have to worry about kicks, mainly leg-kicks. The other threat is being taken down and submitted or pounded. A third threat is the clinch, which can result in a throw/take-down or in dirty boxing(MT clinch). What James Toney needs to learn is how to sprawl, and leg-kick defense. Now facing a greco-roman wrestler/dirty boxer like Randy, what James has to worry about is getting backed up into the cage and getting tossed, and taking those knees to the face and body.
Charkoly2 1 year ago
toney has a punchers chance but thats his only chance while theres many ways randy could win
dirtyjew1974 1 year ago
@dirtyjew1974 you could also say that Courture has a wrestlers chance..because his punching will not bother Toney..and if he tries to punch toney will counter with combos that will knock him out. So the only way he will win is through wrestling.
BringerOfTheTruth 1 year ago

Just imagine what David Haye Or Wladimir Klitschko do to a Brock Lesnar?
elio646 1 year ago
a top prime boxer would get killed in an octogon against any top level mma fighter and thats a fact
