planet of the Daleks was easily forgettable? i thought that was brilliant it had such a lot of classic elements like the Thals, a Dalek base, invisible creatures, DALEKS going invisible, Jon Pertwee's pimp suit! an Awesome Dalek supreme! did i mention jon Pertwee's pimp suit? LOL
Meh, seeing as i have not seen all of the series i can't say if i agree or not, but this IS a pivotal moment in the Doctors history, i completely agree. You know i wonder.......i wonder if The Doctors of the post Last Time War ever look back on this and regret..........would make a GREAT episode.
These are all fantastic. Thankyou for doing these. Your commentaries are wonderful and your choice of moments is perfect. Maybe a few of them I would place in a different order but I really do like them. ^_^
Well TBBB, you certainly have a lot of taste. My only regret is I watched this one first but it was always going to be the obvious choice including my own. Time to take a look at the other 9, and many thanks and pre-thanks for doing this. Topman. ||>O
I really wish they had at least made the dalek story maintain continuity with the first appearance in 1963. They could have still had the Daleks turn on Davros and then war with the Thals. Then they could figure out how to not rely on static electric floors and such and invade earth and later awake Davros to help them to try to overcome the android Movellans. This episode with small changes would still have worked just fine.

Genesis is also one of my favourite stories and the ethics involving causality and genocide proves the Doctor is philosophically sophisticated. Great choice!
What's wrong with you people? The actual moment starts at 4:03. What comes before is commentary explaining why I thought it was the greatest moment. If you don't like my yapping that's fine... don't watch the video or simply skip to the scene. Continuously commenting about it is rude IMO....
Ach. I can't even finish this video. I wanted to watch Doctor Who greatest moments... not listen to some guy talk over the dialogue that MAKES the moments memorable. Just do a journal or something man... >_>
@HennaLang He's explaining WHY the moment is the best. If you want to see the scene, just watch the episode. And if you don't like what he has to say, don't watch the video or skip to the actual scene. Just don't complain about it.
in my opinion genisis of the daleks was a bit slooow and i seemed to find it hard to tell which were thals and which were kaleds. but i admit it was well-made and plot was well though.
now its my understanding that the doctor non-genocide action...caused a new timeline of constant dalek civil war? black and blue-gray pure-dna daleks vs gold+creme davros dna daleks?...
No doubt, this was the best episode ever. The only thing I didn't like about it, was it was a six part episode. I never liked the six or more parts, I felt it drug storylines out to long. But, this is just my view and mine alone.
... Why does everybody love Genisis of the Daleks?
I mean, yes, it was good, and maybe I'm just an idiot or something, but there are so many episodes that are more interesting, more emotional, but less popular.
I just finally got around to seeing it this week and I just though 'meh'.
I applaud the first half, but I have to chuckle at the second. As someone (forgot who) once noted in DWM, everyone seems to forget that by the end of "Genesis", the Doctor decides that he bloody well DOES have the right, and heads back into the bunker. In the end, he fails not due to moral objections, but because he runs out of time, and has to settle for stunting their development by a few centuries.
Most mis-characterized scene in Doctor Who history. :)
@ElQuark0 The first part is not the moment. It's just playing little bits of the episode it's from while he talks. He could just put a black screen but that would be terribly boring. The actual moment does not have him talking over it.
somehow, I always think that the "do i have the right?" scene would work better as a cliffhanger--it's so intense, and it would create great tension for the next episode, like, is the doctor going to do? Is he going to kill the daleks?
Thanks so much for this series, it's been very interesting and informative, especially for a Doctor Who noob like me (I only started watching in December, when it started playing on BBC Entertainment here in South Africa). I've been reading up on the series and past doctors, but it's another thing entirely to see it.
Your commentary has been fantastic, as has your reasoning for choosing your clips. You've done a great job, hope to see more from you!
Absolutely perfect choice. This is WHO at its finest, transcending Sci-Fi and becoming great TV drama.
What an incredible WHO era seasons 12,13 and 14 were. "Genesis of the Daleks" was just one of a roll-call of DrWho serials that were true masterpieces.
Why wait! Why the hesistation you can't reason with true evil. You only win if you get them before they can get YOU! Tom's Doctor would disagree with me. Chris Eccelston's wouldn't. Great Clip
Great pick, this is actually the first episode I ever saw, no wonder I became such a fan.. just one comment, Jon Pertwee had three Dalek episodes not two
@TheBigBlueBox It is. Technically it's part of the same story arc as The Frontier in Space. And it didn't have too many memorable moments in it (except for Dalek-tipping).

In a way, Davros is just like Doctor Frankenstein. He's willing to play God but too arrogant to see the consequences of his actions.

I don't think that the doctor never killing anyone is a flaw.

Here we go with Genesis humping again. It was good definately! But the fact that half of it was braindead filler really deterrs me.
