Although I'm on Team Cash, I have a great deal of respect for Trent for writing this song. It's my absolute favourite song purely for the lyrics which I know are believed to be about drugs, addictions, battles etc which I don't have any experience with. However, I really relate to this song. So much. The line 'everyone I know goes away in the end' hits me everytime I hear it. Such a beautiful song, it doesn't matter what version you listen to. It's the lyrics that are beautiful.

It's hard to believe this is actually the original version... Johnny Cash really poured all his heart and soul - as well as anguish and regret - into his cover. (I'm one of those who heard the cover first) Nevertheless I praise Trent for the lyrical masterpiece that is Hurt.

@RufusLiekMudkip The Leona Lewis version is actually an amazing achievement, taking one of the most emotional songs of all time and making it totally bland, and emotionless. It sounds like she's never actually experienced anything at all that she can connect to the lyrics. At the same time, it's not actually 'bad', it doesn't ruin the song, or get it horribly wrong... it just makes it dull and unremarkable. Strangely, Kermit the Frog's version is way better that Leona's.
