Many people say ridding isn't a sport. I ride and disagree with that. Then I got to thinking maybe the ridding isn't as much the sport as taking care of the horse is. Just a thought But I still think that ridding is a sport! After all I have 3 horses to pick from to do this sport with!!!
oh, and i would say dressage is the hardest because, it takes decades, DECADES to perfect and ride at the top level. My trainer has done both dressage and jumping, she got into the dutch JR/YR team for show jumping pretty fast. just a matter of a couple years. But dressage... that took much much longer. Cross country would be one of the most dangerous branches of horse riding, along with racing

I've got a question. I ride western and I just bought a 5yr old paint mare that can jump. But she can jump distances not height. I measured a 9 foot gap I saw her jump once, but she can't jump over a 2 foot high jump. I want to try jumping with her, but don't know where to go or what to go into. If anyone with professional training can help me I'd apprieciate it.
@wolfsvain2 enter her in something small and easy and build up the jumps as she progrtesses instead of just setting up something huge do crossrails and verticles that are small

My friends are teaching her to do dressage, come on my fat fell x cannot do dressage, she struggles poppin a few jumps, she gets bored easily, n she just takes of wi me. @claireleonie Riders falling has nothing to do with how good you are. If someone is terrible at riding and they fall off 3 times are they suddenly going to be experts? I'm a good rider and I have only fallen twice. I think that when I fall again and get back on I STILL will need more training. Same with everyone else. Next time someone falls off a horse and gets back on, they will still need to be trained. They wont magically be ready for the Olympics just because they fell three times.
i dont think he meant that if someone falls off three times they suddenly become a top rider. i think he meant that if you want to be a top rider, you cant be afraid of falling off or getting hurt. you have to be brave (and that includes the horses)

oh, and i would say dressage is the hardest because, it takes decades, DECADES to perfect and ride at the top level. My trainer has done both dressage and jumping, she got into the dutch JR/YR team for show jumping pretty fast. just a matter of a couple years. But dressage... that took much much longer. Cross country would be one of the most dangerous branches of horse riding, along with racing

Makes me miss riding. I've no place to keep a horse. And after riding for over 20 years and stepping away from it, I want to go back. I used to do hunter, jumper, cross country and dressage. I also trained 3 horses. I miss it greatly.

I've got a question. I ride western and I just bought a 5yr old paint mare that can jump. But she can jump distances not height. I measured a 9 foot gap I saw her jump once, but she can't jump over a 2 foot high jump. I want to try jumping with her, but don't know where to go or what to go into. If anyone with professional training can help me I'd apprieciate it.

My horse is an utter spaz she couldnt do anything like that. My friends are teaching her to do dressage, come on my fat fell x cannot do dressage, she struggles poppin a few jumps, she gets bored easily, n she just takes of wi me. The third time I rode a pony, I went on a mean shetland and because she was so small, I thought she wouldn't be able to do anything!
So, anyway, I had ridden her for about 10 mins and all of a sudden she started bucking like a mad animal! I just plopped on the ground!
It is awfully hard to ride!

@claireleonie Riders falling has nothing to do with how good you are. If someone is terrible at riding and they fall off 3 times are they suddenly going to be experts? I'm a good rider and I have only fallen twice. I think that when I fall again and get back on I STILL will need more training. Same with everyone else. Next time someone falls off a horse and gets back on, they will still need to be trained. They wont magically be ready for the Olympics just because they fell three times.

Great video, some of the jumps are incrediable in there and you would think that it was impossible for a horse even to think of jumping something like some of em. Not a fan of the last video i know its reality but it is still not nice and spoils the video
