Northern Ireland is fruit of the proverbial poisoned tree. It exists as result of centuries of British domination of the whole of Ireland. It is a wound on the land healing when all Ireland belongs to the Irish.
You didnt mention that if the leaders were NOT executed then perhaps the general population would not raised up - well not for a few more years. A gross tactical error by the British army, at the time.
@Sammiboi234 Why did the british want to hold ireland? why do they care if the irish get independence? Likewise why do the irish care that they are part of the uk. One of the richest and strongest unions? Forgive my ignorance. Im american, we dont get too much history on the united kingdom. Well we do but I was asleep that month in history. please shate Id like to know
@meronmotors Its not so much the British want to hold Ireland, its that in Northern Ireland the majority of the people want to remain British. The Republic of Ireland is a separate country outside of the UK.
@meronmotors This is crap history for schoolboys from a brainwashed politically correct kid. In the 1100's some Normans were invited to join in local wars. The English King - who was actually French - was worried their leader would set up in the King business on his own account & went over not to conquer Ireland but confirm he was still the boss & so Lord not, King of Ireland. For 400 years Ireland was left pretty much alone & at times England only "ruled" around a few east coast ports.
@meronmotors This changed in 1600's when the Irish aristocracy invited the Spanish to send a Prince as King then they had to do something. With the discovery of America the economic centre of trade was shifting. Improved navigation, shipping & weapons meant a French or Spanish navy on the south coast of Ireland would not only strangle England but the trade of all Western Europe. When they pulled out in 1922 they negotiated to keep the Southern naval bases, negotiating a final pull out in 1938.
@meronmotors There is a lot more than that but "The British" were only in direct control from 1801 to 1922. Before then an Irish Parliament run by a Protestant minority governed with control over most things except foreign relations. The leading Irish historian J C Beckett is a good source to read up. Napoleon said "History is a collection of lies on which everyone agrees". ALL national history including British & American is crap but Irish "History" the highest grade crap in the world.
@meronmotors The US wanted to re-occupy the Irish ports in WW2 but the British would not. To paraphrase Churchill in 1922 he told the British Parliament "For 100 years we have tried to govern Ireland & got deeper in an Irish bog - We are going & have a way to go but it is in our interest to go". Strategic reality is the same today. If in the late 20th century Ireland wanted to go Communist -no chance- the US Marines would have been in Dublin Bay before you could say "Peoples Republic"
Jess, Ive just noticed, they have even crossed out Markieviczs face who was not one of the 15 err 16! What going on here? It should be Willie and Thomas Kent. Come on lads lets get it right!
I don`t know which part of the video was the mostly misleading or comically wrong.
