I've read some info about why did he became a cyborg. The info said he was caught by the patriots and they did some experiment on him. They made his body a cyborg. The only human part left in his body is his skull(except the lower jaw) and his spinal cord.

you can say that for the twin snakes version of MGS1, but in the orignanl PS1 version (which is 10x better) he doesnt deflect bullets except during his boss fight (wich he actually waves his sword around rather than just stand there).

Actually dude Vamp is, for lack of a better word, "immortal". He cant die due to the advanced nanomachines in his body. Raiden on the other hand can die. he still has nanomachines in his body, (his blood was replaced with nanomachines), but theyre not as advanced as Vamps. so he cant heal as quickly or effectively.
