If I had to choose, I'd probably prefer her over Beyonce and etc. I feel like there's more of a genuine depth here instead of just high-hitting notes or fame that's half-baked through good looks/sexuality. The depth behind Fantasia's music was born through the real life trauma and triumphs she had to go through [TUMORS on the vocal cords, rape, domestic violence]. Her Celie-esque [The Color Purple] story touches me. I enjoyed her tribute to "Baby Mamas" and her autobiographical albums.

The last day i was married.. I packed my bags, signed over the house,wrote a good by note, no need for courts, the divorce will not be contested, put this song on repeat so it can be playing when he walked in. went to the airport and flew home to my mamma, he came 3days later and apologized said he didnt think i had it me to leave lol wow. If I had to choose, I'd probably prefer her over Beyonce and etc. I feel like there's more of a genuine depth here instead of just high-hitting notes or fame that's half-baked through good looks/sexuality. The depth behind Fantasia's music was born through the real life trauma and triumphs she had to go through [TUMORS on the vocal cords, rape, domestic violence]. Her Celie-esque [The Color Purple] story touches me. I enjoyed her tribute to "Baby Mamas" and her autobiographical albums.

The issue is that her recorded songs are not vocally impressive compared to say Christina Aguilera's generally withholding voice, but Beyonce's live performances are very powerful, so she can sing incredibly well. I simply fail to get the substance that I can get from Fantasia, Arie, or Lauryn Hill herself even though Beyonce does have it--depending on the song. The difference is that these women live what they're saying, and they're almost civil rights leaders with it.

@c11393 When I say she has it, but the formula is different, I am saying I "FEEL" it's HALF-baked through her vocals and sexuality [which is really the media's fault], but she has many emotional songs/performances, yet she's not akin to say, India Arie, Sade, or Lauryn Hill, because they produce a "different" kind of emotional liberation and leadership. It's not about either being better, it's about them not being "the same feel" for me, and I just prefer the other feel. Opinion, not a fact.
