After watching Nova on PBS about telescopes and all the discoveries since Galileo first put one to his eye to look upon the heavens. The mention of these stars interested me and I found this video very informative
I was reading a book the other day called Galaxies: A Very Short Introduction. The explanation of Cepheid variables in there made sense mostly but I didn't connect all the dots. Watching this video has made me understand it properly now. Thanks!!
@LogicBeforeNorms Nah, it wasn't Dianetics. I did try to read Dianetics once - I was hoodwinked into buying it by a friendly salesperson on the street when I was very gullible. What a crock it was. Just a bunch of made up pseoduscience IMHO.
i'm a fan, your videos are literally changing the world.
you just have to make a distinction between luminosity and brightness. Tanks.

The galaxy book is pretty good though!

very interesting series! thanks for making these! I have one question though:
Why does the luminosity of the stars vary?

Leavitt was brilliant. I love it when some "nobody" revolutionizes science.

I can't believe how current Khan is. He's got his finger on current scientific debate.
good for him.
