  • would any oven igniter work or do you need a specific type for your model of stove...should i remove it and take it with me to the part store to match it up with the new one..?

  • Yep! Same here. This video got my 20 something year old Magic Chef oven back on its feet in about 20 minutes! Cost of the part only. Badda BING! Badda BOOM!

  • With the help of this video, and the owners manual of my 25 year old Tappen oven, I too was able to fix my oven for less than $60.00. Not bad for a 50 year old woman! Yeah me!

  • Thanks. With the help of this vid, I was able to replace my ignitor in about 15 minutes.

  • Good info

  • Nice video! Question...

Would one of the symtoms of the igniter going bad be a strong odor of hot electronics/plastic?

  • @Thiscatsgotclaws Not likely. Check your oven cavity for any foreign objects, like a plastic pot handle or something like that. Could also be wire insulation. Try to pin point the area where the smell is coming from. Check for signs of melted / burnt plastic on the outside of the oven. If the oven seal is weak, it might let out enough heat to melt the control panel for example. Stop using the oven if you feel it is unsafe.
