Don't kill them as they eat spiders and such. If you ever break open one of their nests you will see a bunch of spiders and other insects stuffed in there for the babies. They are great to have around.

@purrrplecomet At work we have a crazy amount of daubers flying all around us and I have yet heard of anyone ever being stung by them. I could sit right next to their nests with no problems.
@thybigballs then talk to Dr. Miles H. Bader.he knows everything about insects.wich ones sting.how they work.how they catch food.how to trick them wit boric acid treats.if u talk 2 him u will learn they sting.unless u don't have a mud dauber.could be a different parasitic wasp that just looks like a mud dauber that doesn't sting.
@purrrplecomet I didn't exactly say they couldn't sting. I'm simply saying there are no stories of us ever being stung by one and these things are everywhere and so are their nests. It's almost like there's too many of them. They like making nests on our equipment which can be a problem sometimes as this causes malfunctions to occur. I suppose you would really have to work at it to get one of them to sting you but we have no fear of these guys at all.
@thybigballs :/ i can just tell you they sting with no problem. anyway, they DO sting people.their sting is much like a hornet's,and they have no stinger.they just touch you, stick their abdomen on your arm,and it might swell and be red for about a month.though mud daubers are NOT poisoness AT ALL.they just sting.that's all.i was wrong that they sting u if u get too close that was yellow jacket i was reading.anyway,it's possible to get stung.but not harmful.little swelling and rdness, but that it.
shiiit, these are what I've been seing in my garden lately by the mud....and yeterday we found a huge freakin nest by my window....WTF should I dooooo hate these wasp, damn scary
Well....even though they're ugly as sin (minus the blue mud daubers), I have to say that these guys might be the ONLY wasp I'm comfortable around. My most recent experience with a wasp (a bald faced hornet actually) didnt end too well for the bug. Sprayed the sucker while she was building her nest, let out a battle cry and chopped its head off with an ice scrapper.
People don't realize how gentle these creatures are. They're so nice. I've walked around with one on my hand and they just chill. These may look like masty little bugs, but they're quite nice.
@Megido they trap and eat any spiders they can trap in these things. sounds like a pretty good deal to me. read the article on cracked that talks about them and links to this video
@lanelewis Cracked is how I came across the video. Personally, I don't hate spiders. I don't like them, and I'd rather not have them anywhere near me, but this seems soooo pointless, lol. However, if they took out trap door spiders then I'd be all for it. Those things are creepy as shit.
@Megido ugh i hate spiders as much as just about anything. but god yeah the trap door spiders might be the most terrifying things on earth. anything to get those things killed would be a blessing
@Anadorn I'm not saying you need God. In fact, quite the opposite. I'm confused as to what the point of building mud prisons is. Tons of other species of wasps don't do it, and they survive just fine. Evolution does some weird things.
There's a mud dauber nest at my school but it's abandoned, we didn't know that until like three days later when it fell off and nothing came out. LULZ
@OrchidJayne Mud daubers are solitary wasps that construct small nests of mud in or around homes, sheds, and barns and under open structures, bridges and similar sites. Wasps usually evoke a great deal of anxiety or fear. However, solitary wasps such as the mud daubers do not defend their nest the way social wasps such as hornets and yellowjackets do. Mud daubers are very unlikely to sting, even when thoroughly aroused. They may sting if mishandled. (I pulled this off an Iowa Insect info site)
@OrchidJayne Are you sure they were mud daubers? I know theres a couple of paper wasps that kinda look like mud daubers, so maybe thats what you got stung by.
@OrchidJayne Bee's look FUZZY this is a wasp and is as closely related to ants as they are to bees. The mud dauber pictured here is a solitary wasp and it is extreamly rare to have it sting someone.
@fdeldredge I know most bees are fuzzy except for hornet, yellow jacket etc. I was attacked by a nest of wasp
I was told it was a mud dauber. Hence the nest being near a creek and in the mud. It says that they are solitary wasps. But when a nest is disturbed and the queen killed any nest will defend.
@OrchidJayne same thing happened to me dude..i am fucken petrified of wasps...and other bees as well...i feel like a bitch because there so small..but everything about them creeps me out
@OrchidJayne haah the funny thing about me is i will get up close to a tarantula ,a snake, a crocdile, anything idc...but bees just scare the fuck out of me..their legs..their stingers, their eyes, and their speed, and when they squad up and attack
Amazing video. these creatures are real potters. Its amazing how they look for places in the mud that have the least amount of rocks and make their ball. creation is beautiful.
These wasps scare the crap out of me. I mean they are so freaky looking. When they fly around and their stinger hands down it just scares the crap out of me.
Great video! I've got one building a nest on my front door window. I love these wasps... they kill tons of spiders! I just wish they'd build their nest on a wall away from the front door!
These Mud Dauber wasps are NOT aggressive.... I'd rather have them around any day over spiders!
@whiteyak5 i have to agree with you on that one i hate these little bastards building their adobe shitty huts on my house i dont think so i slap them sons a bitchs down in a heart beat.
@darkangelglue500 I have a whole flipping community of them building nests in my garage attic! So I have had to take the offensive because although they may be good at clearing house on spiders they are also great at freaking the hell out of you. There huge! Plus i like the spiders, they dont bug me and i dont bug them, they also kill alot of other pests.
@whiteyak5 I don't like spiders at all I have gotten bitten by a Brown Recluse but luckily I went to the hospital before it started eating my flesh, and i also got bit by a Banana Spider which hurt but they are not poisonous.
Fair enough, but you make it sound like that because they take out spiders that's a plus point. You do realise spiders are superb natural pest controllers?
fuck man, these things are building nets all over my porch, 4 on my last count. i even got one on my fuckin front door so I have to duck right under it whenever i leave the house. I just open it real quick and run for my car as fast as i can hahaha. fortunately when i get back from work it's dark out and their nests are sealed up probably with them sleeping inside. they say they aren't aggressive towards humans but i'm still terrified of these bastards.

@OrchidJayne I thought mud daubers were not defensive or social. I read that they do not sting you unless you mishandle one.
thatguyyoudontfeel 8 months ago
@thatguyyoudontfeel
They are VERY defensive and social only with their hive. The reason I was attacked by the
nest was because it was disturbed. I was outside of a buisness where a family member
worked and was playing with the owners son's dog. The dog had gone down a hill where
there was a creek. came back up. When I touched the dog's head I was covered head to toe with bees.
The dog got the worst of it. He had been stung 30 times and had to spend a couple nights at the vet
hospital
