  • Aw, Tommy, wish you were still with us. The country never needed you more.

  • We have the 35 th best healthcare system in the world thanks to clowns like this, why are you all cheering, is this really something to be proud of, 34 countries do it better !!! People get you head out of your ass. No one is copying our Soviet styled system. Don't say its because we don't spent enough money, we are in the top 5 for spending. Their are more countries in the world than Canada and USA. Canada needs to think.

  • @yukoncornileus4 Your are either an american or an ignorant muppet (mmm..is that the same thing?). Cross the border and see how much better it is. A national health service is MORAL. Its objective however clumsy is its attempts at perfection is still MORAL. What the US has is SICK, instigated by Nixon for profiteers and not for its people. You judge a nation from how it treats its poor.

You have nothing to contribute. Keep flicking the remote Bubba

  • @morklind Yes I can't possibly be Canadian because we all know there is only one way all Canadians think, and then throw in some anti-Americanism, you are such a stereo-type. Canadians cross the border all the time. How moral is it to have you citizens die in waiting lists and refuse them the ability to use there own means. Supreme Court has said it is not moral at all. There are more than two countries in the world! Why the hell can't we look at the nations doing better than us, all 34 of them.

  • @yukoncornileus4 "How moral is it to have you citizens die in waiting lists"

Name one. I can name Americans who die who don't even get ONTO "waiting lists". Look up Deamonte Driver sometime--how "moral" was his death?--and you'll understand why we'll never give up Medicare in Canada.

  • @RutherfordUnperson The modern welfare state is unsustainable, it will end as we know it, just look at Greece. Your opinion or my opinion won't matter one bit. Economics always trumps politics, just ask the Soviets.

Why look at the American system of health care, there are dozens of countries that do it better than we do. Germany for example, there are more than just two countries in the world.

  • @yukoncornileus4 I am sure wealthy individuals cross over to America to go to a fancy American hospital. IF you didn't notice, money talks a lot in America. And hospitals will bump you to the front of the line if you can give a handsome donation. In Canada people who are dying are bumped to the front... In America people who give big fat checks are bumped to the front. Do you see a problem?

  • @Seraphim727 If you have long lines there is something drastically wrong with your system, for example the line ups for food in the Soviet days. There are no Canadian style lines ups in Germany which has the private parallel system we are told is evil. Even Cuba now has private hospitals which are used to generate revenue for their public system. If that is not too extreme right wing for the Cuba communists maybe it shouldn't be for us.

  • A great man. Unlike Americans who file for bankurtpcy as they can't pay their medical bills (65% of thtem!), in Canadian 0% (zero) percent of Canadians have to file for bankruptcy cause they can't afford their kids' operation. Single-payer Universal Healthcare is a right, not a profit-driven privilege as in America. And its costs 1/3 less in Canada than in Obamacare America! God bless this man Tommy Douglas...he should be exported to Washington to teach Barack some lessons!

  • exhibit A: disasemble and destruction of Canada by the beuracrats, proof NWO has had its hands in the destruction of Canada for a very long time. to spend 250 million on pulp and paper welfare only to try and cancel its obligations to the provinces...NWO agents have been medling and destroying Canada for a very long time.

  • Whoever has more videos , please post them!

  • We really, REALLY, R E A L L Y should have made Tommy Prime Minister !

  • over 30 years have passed and the only thing that has changed is the money now goes to big oil instead of pulp and paper.

  • How can I not vote NDP after watching this?

Conservatives purposely mismanage taxes to fund public health care so they can come back to the Canadian people and say "See? Public health care doesn't work! It's time to privatize!".

  • TOMMY DOUGLAS WAS A GOOD MAN I WILL FIGHT ON FOR HEALTH CARE CANADA NEEDS IT ALL CANADIANS FIGHT WITH TOMMY DOUGLAS THANK GOD WE DO NOT LIVE IN THE USA

  • TCD was the man.

I am not slain. I will rise again.

  • Douglas' third point was absolutely brilliant.

  • The more I come across the speeches of Tommy Douglas the more I come to realise just how much he represented, and his legacy still represents, everything that defines what it is to be Canadian and to be human.

In our modern world when anyone considers embarking on a career in politics they should study the life and times of Tommy Douglas; they could not have a greater teacher.

And to assist the people of the USA in their fight for health reform, why don't we broadcast T.D.'S speeches to them!

  • @wmackview

    Yeah like being Scottish/Irish/French.

Just look at Canada, Celtic from top to bottom from its very start and once these people and their culture they established passed on from generation to generation which thanks to "Multiculturalism" we are seeing become confused, and a minority, the country will fall and it already is.

Look up the confederate forefathers of Canada, Spoke Gaelic, but switched for more common tounges out of common curtousy.

John A MacDonald and every other PM.

  • @phr34kyy

    Bloodclot!!!

  • I agree people wouldn't have the guts to heckle him!

  • You should watch him in the Prairie Giant movie when he is first elected as a MP his battle with Gardiner is classic!

  • @koalheca GREAT MOVIE EH

THIS GOT ME TO JOIN JIMMY GARDINER WHO EVER PLAYED HIM WAS GOOD EH

  • Two of the greatest parlaimentarians of all time - Tommy Douglas (MP - Nanaimo) and Stanley Knowles (MP - Winnipeg).

Notice the silence in the House as Tommy speaks - not something that happens anymore.

  • Cool Thanks for the correction I am glad that some people pay attention to the works of the NDP

  • which member was speaking to him at 7:00 ... ?

  • It is a fellow NDP MP who is talking to him and I believe it is Coldwell

  • No, it is Stanley Knowles, who is sitting to his left.

  • right, I mean!

  • doesnt help me at all !!!!!!!!!! :(

  • if you want health care to improve in Canada then start electing people who actually want medicare to succeed!
