While I am all for the punishment of blantant stupidity (and trying to tailgate a bus in an area like this IS blantantly stupid), why use these car destroyers when tire shredders work just as efficently, without such possibly disasterious side effects? These bollards are just a fad, and eventually those in charge will realize they can get the job done much easier, and cheaper in the long run, with spike strips.

Spike strips may be a less damaging way to immobilise a vehicle, but, in a high pedestrian traffic area, bollards have a lesser change of causing injury to people.

Plus, I think the bollards allow motorcycles, bicycles and other permitted vehicles to pass, whereas spike strips would not provide that discrimination.
