Seems all you fucking Americans talk about is "GAS CONSUMPTION" yet you refuse to buy diesels. Bunch of backward fuckers don't know shit, as long as it has a cup holder for your extra large soda you're happy.
Ryan, I am caught between the 2.5GT and the 3.6R. I like the turbo and the ability to "tune" the GT, but the 3.6R is much more readily available this year. If you had to pick one of the two, which and why? TIA.
@jonsocal Tough call, but considering that the H6 can take regular gas, and it gets the same MPG (and has similar driving charastics) as the turbo 2.5 - given the current price of gas, the H6 is actually looking pretty good these days. If you don't plan on tuning it, go for the H6. If you dream of "someday" bumping it up to 300hp - get the turbo.
I love Subarus to death, I would rather own one than a Ferrari or Lamborghini any day. but the last couple years they have looked ASS-UGLY! I mean look at this!? it looks like a CHRYSLER SEBRING, wow i can hardly lay my eyes on one! shame to you designers for Subaru I am very dissapointed.
Something that I LOVE about SUBARU is that you can buy an EXCELLENT car for 20,000 dollars with AWD!...... If Honda creates the Accord with the AWD option, is gonna be the perfect car!.
I test drove the 3.6R a couple months ago with the intention to get my parents to buy one. I think they would like it a lot. Yes, it could be faster, but I think that subaru wanted to leave the power to their GT model. When regular people buy a midsize car for daily driving, Im not sure that they care to be terrified by explosive power. The 3.6R is supposed to be a family car for long trips, not an adrenaline rush. I think that 300hp would be dampered off by the weight of the Legacy.
He says "I used to own a 2007 Legacy GT" which he heavily modified < that explains why he's wetting his pants over reviewing this car and fondling it all over. He has an obvious pro-fan boy bias, makes it kinda hard to take his review seriously. Personally I DO like the new Legacy much better than the previous version. Toyota has succeeded in helping Subie give the car more "mass-appeal". $30 grand is kinda getting up there though, ouch.
@325iuc Yup, Ryan also used to own the world's largest all-Subaru magazine. He also owned a couple Mazda magazines and has driven hundreds of new cars over the years of all makes and models. A quick scan of this YT channel will show you some of those other reviews.
@drivingsports Plus his last words: This ENTHUSIAST is impressed. I liked his review. I thought it was well done. Everything I've thought about with my Legacy and looking into a newer one and thinking, "eh... I can get the power by swapping engines/transmission/exhaust." I always think about space, size, my interior is ok for 12 years ago... If I could have this car with my 98 styling: sold x2. I just don't like the styling. Not unsold yet. Just not sold yet.
Nice job Ryan thanks for doing such a well balanced review. I picked up a 3.6R a few weeks ago to replace my 04 Forester XT. I've been very happy with the Legacy so far.
Very nice review: very professional, very comprehensive, very articulate. IMHO the Accord or Camry doesn't even come close to the '10 Legacy. The Subie boxer engine has been around for over a decade now, and this thing is rock solid and bullet proof. Not to mention the industry's best AWD system, no one else comes close.
Very good review on the GT and 3.6R, but I think you should test out the 2.5i, which will be the majority of all Legacy sales. I disagree with your comment on the H6: the 6 cylinder is there for those who want more power, a bulletproof engine, AUTOMATIC transmission, and 6 cylinder smoothness. I love my H6 3.0 and it would be a shame to not see a 6 offered anymore in a marketplace where sixes mean luxury. The Legacyis larger, more luxurious, and more importantly, more efficient.
There's not too much of a difference between the base and the 2.5i Limited. The key differences are the wheels (steel for the base and alloy for the Premium) and available options. The CVT is a good transmission. I must warn you that you might feel a slight delay or hiccup when starting on a steep hill in the CVT, but they do have incline start assist to alleviate that. The CVT is very smooth and responsive. You'll like it. I'm definitely considering this as my next car.
Great car! I've driven both the GT as well as the 2.5i Premium (for the sake of trying the CVT). I think Subaru is going to have a lot of success with this one. The only downside is the crappy manual shifter and the boring looking rear of the car.

I don't know if I'm much of a fan of the new design (just the looks). They took away the wagon version as well which was sad. I'd love to have one of the 2005-2008 Turbo wagons.
It's sad. the 2010 imprezas have more leg room in the back than my 1993 legacy. Go figure XD
FINALLY a descent reviewer!!!! i am sick of the reviewers who test drive the legacy but have already made there mind up that a camry or accord is better before they even get in it! Thanks heaps!
Although i like the last generation much better , this design is growing on me :), i look forward to test driving one and not only do i look forward to driving one ,i am also excited to what the tuning industry has to offer for both the 2.5GT and 3.6R.
LOL, is Ryan Douthit wearing the Subaru Rally Team USA shoes??? I want those!!!
I absolutely adore the fact that the turbocharged 2.5GT comes only in a proper manual transmission now. If only the 3.6 engine were available with a manual...
I really wish Subaru would ditch that stupid v grill. It looks so cheap and tacky they can do much better. I actually liked the tri grill they used a few years ago that everyone hated.
i really like how you guys "kind of" go into the tuning capabilities of a car. not many car shows do this.
anyway, i'm really starting to grow to like the new Legacy. it really is an attractive car in person. video and pictures do this car absolutely no justice.
I agree they do not look as nice but their new designs will likely increase their market share which is something Subaru seems to struggle with. Lets face it, larger family sedans outsell sport sedans 10/1.
Stick with German.......

the v6 doesn't come with 6 speed automatic
vanzobee 1 year ago
correction:
4:14, the Subaru Legacy 3.6R has a 5-speed automatic, NOT a 6-speed.
The 2.5GT has a 6-speed (but a proper manual gearbox), and the CVT-equipped Legacys have the 6 "speeds" in their paddle-shift mode.
