If anything, Raiden MADE Snake.

Before, Solid Snake, while awesome, really was a pawn. Yes, both Big Boss and Liquid were evil, but it was still a shame that such a great character didn't really break the bonds that bound him down from his true potential.

With MGS2, and it's MEME theme (ie Snake passing down his views to Raiden), Snake is now the legend he was always hailed as. He no longer works for the government, and he fights for his beliefs.

It's funny, 10 years later and Raiden is properly accepted. I remember giving him all the shit back in the day, calling him a fag, but now it seems natural to see the words 'Snake and Raiden' in a sentence, and it seems near impossible to think of MGS as a series without thinking of Raiden.

Few series can do that; be around long enough for people to hate a newcomer so much, but then stick around longer until they're accepted and part of the series.

@martinstatic I'm a new fag to the series. I was KIND OF a Raiden hater, but this was before I played MGS2 (or even 1 for that matter. 3 was my first MGS game.) After being blown away by both MGS3 and 1, I was willing to accept whatever Kojima had to offer me next.

I'm SO glad I was more open minded of Raiden. The way Kojima used him in MGS2 was hands down brilliant.

HOPEFULLY, Rising will make Ninja Raiden half as compelling as the original Raiden was. But I doubt it, lol.

The main fan base for MGS is on the playstation. Rising aint going to be as good as Peace Walker. Rising wont be anything like the Tactical Espionage Action everyone likes.
