Hey guy. I just made a batch of this there now. I couldn't get the water down to 20°c so i added the yeast and hops at 24°. Is that ok or have i ruined the batch? Thanks guys.
Craig, you didn't stir a yeast...Did you change your habit ? Or was it one time because this kit? Anyway thank you for an excellent job: I gonna make my first Coopers home beer with Wheat kit.
Craig I'm just now sampling a bottle of my batch of St Peters Ruby Red Ale it's awesome and clearing in bottles quickly. You are going to reeeeeaaalllyy enjoy this one
I have so many words to say to you, but it will take a massive text and Youtube have a limit. But, in few words: THANK YOU CRAIG!!!!
Don't care for those beer snobs. You introduce me to homebrewing, and, thanks to you and your videos, I aquired the habilities and felt confident to brew my first batch!
So, yesterday I started brewing my Muntons Connosieurs Continental Lager... Today, it's fermenting like crazy... :))) I can´t wait to share my beer with my friends and my brothers friends! Seeya
Hi Craig, I noticed on the St. Peters website that this kit contains barley malt extract and rye malt extract (listed separately) do you think it was one tin of each or was it a mixture in both tins? This will be my first beer to go into my newly purchased Cornelius keg and I'm not sure how long I should leave it in the primary fermenter, it's been in there since 11th May and it still bubble every 30 mins or so.
@TheFlatulentCow Wouldn't hurt to leave it for a couple of weeks. I'm finding that it's taking a while to clear in my bottles, probably do to the hops added.
Hey Craig, long time no hear....Looks like some good beer there with the red...dont know if it's available here in the states though...that beer in your glass looks great too..what is it in the glass, and what did you use for ingredients? Cheers man! Tesla
@ACTeslaMachineDC Hey Tesla! In the glass is a Coopers Lager, I believe. I used 1 can of Coopers, 500K of DME, and about 700K of dextrose. Turned out GREAT!
@ACTeslaMachineDC Hey thanks for the feedback Craig...I'll wait till I get a small fridge for lagering, but yes it sure looked great! How long did you wait for it, or did you just keg it after fermenting? I havent been homebrewing lately, but will start back up here soon I believe - Summers Coming! ;) Cheers man...
Hi Craig. Not that you have not heard this a thousand time already, but you make some of the best and well produced how to vids on YouTube. We all love what your doing, and we love you. Good job my friend!
G'Day craig. Watch your feeds. Good see other keen extract tin brewers like myself. i see your even getting quite the aussie beer gut like me too =) When you pitch yeast on your next brew, try this. I add the dry sachet contents to 1 cup warm water stir until its milky and seal with a piece of clingwrap. After 10-15mins its similar temp to your cooled down fermenter (try leaving it cool for 30mins-1hr) then add and stir. Every brew has come out way better and fermented down much lower FG. Enjoy.
i wonder about the hop addition at 70F....i know normal hops would add no bitterness at that temperature....and any flavor or aroma would be driven off by the fermentation....maybe the hop powder extract is different though
craigtube, i know you like 70s for fermentation temperature, but you got to try 60s. It will still ferment to the same final gravity, but will be much more clean and less esters.
Hi Craig! I didn't see you add any sugars. Was it all in the kit?
I just bottled a batch of what I call "super honey brew." I used 8 pounds of honey. Using my hydrometer it's 8% alcohol. I'm going to do a taste test video when it's ready. Shouldn't take too much to get a buzz.
@mieses2pieces Great to hear from you. Because there's two cans of extract, there's enough sugars in those so that no additional sugar is required, although adding some extra would boost the ABV.
@CraigTube What's the alcohol %? My last batch of what I call "Super Honey Brew" is 8% alcohol. I used 8 pounds of honey. I will be doing a taste test video next weekend.
Hi craig. Delighted to see you trying the St. Peter's ruby red ale kit as it just so happens I have one in my fermenter at the moment. I have found that the fermentation time has taken a 'lot' longer(3 weeks now) than what the kit instructions claim. I have a busy schedule for a few days so I will bottle my brew in about 5 days time. Looking forward to sampling and also seeing how you get on with this product.
I'm glad to see a video on St Peters ruby, I'm looking to brew this after the lager's ready that came with my Coopers micro brew kit. Seen some good reviews on the St Peters kits
Do you know any place in the U.S. that you can order these kits? I can't seem to find anyplace online selling these other than UK stores. Love your show...
i dont know if you were follwing the kit directions but i find when i do an hour boil the results are much better. if you pm me your mailing address ill try to send you a kit from down here, tell me your style preference.
@lkcheat I've been told that boiling the malt extract, especially if it's pre hopped, can kill flavours and darken the wort, unless you have a mega huge pot that you can fit the whole 5 gallons of wort in, which I don't. You'd need a propane burner and the whole bit. There's many ways of doing it, but I just fallowed the kit directions. I will PM you.
Hey Craig Great Videos! I'm half way through enjoying my first batch of Lager. you really inspired me to get brewing! Thank you. I really like the idea of using flip top bottles, i have collected about 50 so far. Where did you get the 1L Bottles you mentioned? I'm debating about brewing Mead, and these larger bottles would be great. Somewhere in Southern Ontario? Thanks again, keep up the good work.
@digivore I got my 1L flip top bottles at Complete Home Brewing in Hamilton. They are amazing bottles. I just bottled this batch in them and you can practically snap the caps on with one hand while filling the next bottle with the other. Three Coopers carb drops in each bottle works perfect for 1L.
Hey Craig, do you brew all of your kits this way? ie: Pour the lme into the fermenter and then top up with water? I was under the impression that you had to boil the water and then add the lme and then top up with additional water. Can you tell I'm new at this? lol
@sixstring78 I used to boil the extract for a few minutes but found that it's not necessary, and in some cases it can harm the hops and darken the wort. Granted, my water is good quality from the tap. It just has a tad of chlorine, but not enough to smell it even.
Did you do a Gravity Reading off Camera? Just wondering what the ABV is for these St. Peters kits w/o any additional fermentables added. Looking forward to the Beer Review.
@CraigTube Sounds like a good Session beer ABV. Yeah I could tell you were really digging the aroma after you sprinkled in the Hops Powder. I'm going to have to give St. Peters a try.
@pookanc Yes, it was around 1.042 . A bit on the low side for me, but fits the style of beer. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to throw a pound of dextrose in, but I wanted to brew it as close to style as I could.
@CraigTube I'd probably throw a pound of Raw Honey in the other Kit to raise the ABV and add some more flavors to the mix. I love adding Honey to my Homebrew, or Honey and Molasses if its a style that you can get away with adding both like a Dark Ale or Stout.
Hi Craig Ian from the uk did thanks to craig lol just so you know who I am hope ur ok and well! I want to do a batch with 2 cans of malt using Geordie lager 1.5kg each can I think if I remember from watching you did this with Coopers a while ago you use less sugar I normally use 1kg bag any suggestions? Thanks Ian
@sandydogy It depends on how strong you want your beer Ian. You'll get just over 1.040 with just the two cans. I usually throw in half a kg of dextrose with the two cans. Better still 0.7kg of dry malt extract, but that gets expensive.
@sandydogy Alot of Coopers 1.7kg tins here from Australia are great to work with. A word of warning though on 2 canning them. They can be volcanic (check out coopers Imperial Russian Stout recipe). If adding more Dex/maltodextrin/malts they can really foam uop and out your airlock making a big mess. Good luck on your brew.
Awesome video Craig But you forgot only forgot important thing? You forgot the gloves and the mask and you forgot to hold your breath and the lotion for your arms and hands before you did the beer making......lmao just joking
Do you not aerate your wort? If not I would highly recommend it. It gives the yeast a great supply of oxygen. If so, then you already know that. Great brewing video. It looks like I've got a lot of videos to catch up on.
@Dactat I fill my fermenter from high up, and stir for a couple of minutes to aerate. It's when you boil the whole batch, like with all grain, that you lose your oxygen. No boil kits don't suffer so much from lack of oxygen.
Hi Craig...Another great video...I was getting the video DT's ..so now I got my fix! :)..Can we still get a discount if we order a coopers kit through you web site? take care Dave
Hey Craig - I live in the California desert (near Palm Springs ie: very hot) Are there any precautions I should take in brewing in hot temps? I want to do a partial grain/extract - do the kits come with the grain or do I need to purchase separate?
Thanks for all of the great videos and I had a blast NYE listening in on your broadcast.
@mhintz08 You need to keep the temp below 74-75 degrees during primary or you're not gonna have good results, 60-70 would be best. You can get kits from places like Midwest Supply, Austin Homebrew, Northern Brewer etc. that will have the grain w/ the kit.
Did that kit not long ago. Not bad I have to say. I felt it was a little too hoppy for my taste but thats just my preference. Hope it turns out well for u.
@ergot99 LOL fair enough. I recorded the music on my iPad. I have to use copyright free music in my videos because I'm a YouTube partner. So I just whip up quick tracks in Garage Band. But, ya, they can be a bit cheezy.
I'd bought this kit a couple of months ago so I was delighted to see you'd be brewing two of them. I'd just finished 'putting it on' then checked my mail and saw you'd posted this vid. Coincidence aside, i'm interested to see if we end up with a similar tasting beer.
Great video Craig. I have just recently joined the ranks of home brewing. I'm actually starting out on a mr beer kit that I got fairly cheap and am in the middle of fermenting my first batch. Have you ever tried mr beer? How do you feel about it? Also what brand brewing kit do you recommend? I want to upgrade to a bigger and more professional kit fairly soon after I get the hang of brewing on a smaller kit.
Greetings from the UK. Great job as always Craig. I only found your channel a week or so ago but I think I've watched pretty much every video you've done now. Following this I have just ordered my first Cooper's Micro Brew kit. You really are an inspiration, please keep doing what you're doing!
➤ I don't think we get any St. Peters products around here in Nova Scotia, haven't seen any anyhow! I never stir my yeast when I pitch! Great video Craig! See you Friday night during your awesome, addictive broadcast! Take care! - Jake
Is that kit manufactured by Munton's? I just did a Munton's Gold kit on National Home Brew Day and it was the same kind of packaging. It didn't have the hop sachet though... Wouldn't shock me if it was. That day I also did an all grain special bitter and I did the whole Munton's kit while the all grain was mashing and I still had time to spare! Gotta love them kits!
great vid craig. i have just finished my first brew using a coopers micro brew kit after watching your vids on it and now i fancy having a go at the St. Peters ruby red kit. i have a couple of questions, how long will you have to leave it in the fermenter and when it is ready to be bottled do you use priming sugar, and if so how much per pint bottle. thanks.
Another great video and you have encouraged me to try the home brew hobby. I received the Coopers Micro-Brew Kit 2 days ago and I have one question: As a brand new to home-brew hobbyist (but not to drinking LOL), I don't want to make 5 gallons of a brew that I may not like that much. If I make a half (2.5 gallons), will the extra ingredients work for a second (slightly different recipe) brew after I have bottled the first brew? I want to add DME and different hops and yeast for the second brew.
@steamyb005 Once you open the can, you need to use all of the contents right away, unless you are able to put the remainder in a food grade sealed bag with no air. I would just brew the kit the way it's intended and if you don't like it, grin and bear it. :)
@CraigTube Thanks for the quick reply. And I will trust the pros at Coopers and follow the directions. Besides, I can't remember any beer that I was unable to drink. Keep up the good work with showing us newbs how easy it is to brew. I sure do appreciate it!
Looks like a good one, lots o' malt extract!! Yummy. That hops sachet with maltodextrin mixed with hops extract is quite interesting, wonder if it's sold separately somewhere? Cheers!
No Boil huh? i'v never seen that before. i'v also never seen hops like that....hope it turns out good. can't wait for the taste test...i wanna know what it's like to see if i wanna brew it as well!
@CraigTube as far as a danger...I doubt it, but some people do have a sensitivity to high EMF..unless you feel nauseaous, dizzy or get headaches from it, I wouldn't worry too much.
Now if you lived under those huge power lines that are running TONS of electricity through them on a daily basis, and you lived there for 30 years...then I might be a bit worried!!! LOL
@bmeyer44 Not too worried. Some people assert that if I have a huge airlock blowout, I could have a short circuit. NOT. But if I die making beer and wine, I'm dying happy at least. :) LOL 17
And thank God for Craig Farraway who makes it look so easy. Waiting for my first Coopers Microbrew Kit from Singapore. Thanks also for the hard cider vid. We are not preparing several different batches.
did you write the music for this vid?

Is that kit manufactured by Munton's? I just did a Munton's Gold kit on National Home Brew Day and it was the same kind of packaging. It didn't have the hop sachet though... Wouldn't shock me if it was. That day I also did an all grain special bitter and I did the whole Munton's kit while the all grain was mashing and I still had time to spare! Gotta love them kits!

I had a bottle of this beer from this exact same kit this past weekend. Turned out very nice. Malty and a touch of hops. Nice summer beer

great vid craig. i have just finished my first brew using a coopers micro brew kit after watching your vids on it and now i fancy having a go at the St. Peters ruby red kit. i have a couple of questions, how long will you have to leave it in the fermenter and when it is ready to be bottled do you use priming sugar, and if so how much per pint bottle. thanks.

Wow! no stirring of the yeast Craig. Must have been going with the instructions on this on eh. One of your favourite beers. lol

@nelg70 IT was hard, but I avoided the stir as per the instructions. :)

Cheers!

This kit didn't require a boil?
distortionjunkie12 9 months ago
@distortionjunkie12 No boil. It has already been done to the malt extract in the cans.

do you ever have the feeling that you're being watched? LOL

@bmeyer44 Often LOL.
CraigTube 9 months ago
@CraigTube actually the reason I ask...( besides the obvious reasons) is because of that big breaker box over your left shoulder! EMF
bmeyer44 9 months ago
@bmeyer44 Do you feel that's a danger? I know what EMF is, but what's your take on that?
CraigTube 9 months ago
@CraigTube as far as a danger...I doubt it, but some people do have a sensitivity to high EMF..unless you feel nauseaous, dizzy or get headaches from it, I wouldn't worry too much.
Now if you lived under those huge power lines that are running TONS of electricity through them on a daily basis, and you lived there for 30 years...then I might be a bit worried!!! LOL
bmeyer44 9 months ago
@bmeyer44 Not too worried. Some people assert that if I have a huge airlock blowout, I could have a short circuit. NOT. But if I die making beer and wine, I'm dying happy at least. :) LOL 17

And thank God for Craig Farraway who makes it look so easy. Waiting for my first Coopers Microbrew Kit from Singapore. Thanks also for the hard cider vid. We are not preparing several different batches.

I was thinking about brewing that very kit actually, would be interesting to see you tasting the finished product.
