The disk tray and the fact that the disc is not properly secured once the tray closes, is the problem. Even the original CD player holds discs better. Seeing that it is a problem that can easily be fixed and 360 still having this problem, I think it is a strategy by Microsoft to make more money. Sure, if you dont move it, the games will be fine, but crap happen and MS knows it, so they leave this problem here hoping that mistakes happen and discs get scratched then companies make more money.

Its like a hard disk!! in the hard disk he have the head (a pin looking thing) that is micro millimeters away from the disk. if you hit your tower the disk will be scratched. because slight movement will make the head hit the disk

It is not supposed to be in every console but it is a manufacturing flaw regarding about a thousandth of a millimeter. It will present itself in around 1/10 xbox's sitting flat and 6/10 standing upright.
Not a new at all. They've had a class action lawsuit against them (Microsoft) since around 2007-2008 for this issue. I spoke to a GM of Microsoft and had mine replaced for free 2 years out of warranty in exchange for not joining the lawsuit. A third party company found that a truck driving by your house can cause enough vibration to damage the disk. Definitely not a new problem. It stems from poor manufacturing decisions (leaving out rubber bumpers that stop disk tray from hitting laser housing)
My 360 fell over onto my beanbag...but it killed halo reach...and like, when I play black ops, my controller like just stops responding (I've tried with 2 controllers, new batteries in each) and it automatically sends me forwards and will not let me do ANYTHING until I shut my console off.

I Agree with everyone why would he of picked it up and this is nothing new. I have done it with my white 360 when I first bought the system I decided that I wanted to have it laying horizontal and when the xbox was about at an 45 degree angle it ate the disc. OOOOOPPPSS never have done that again

I had Play Station, a freind has PS2 and i tested it with PS3. Moving them just makes the reading slower, and when they go old moving them helps read the disc. So- you mad xboxfags?
I started it up a few hours ago the first time and was playing Fable3 and after 15 - 20 Minutes when it was loading, there was this sound like u press the button in the middle of the joystick and the xbox stopped working!!! I thought whats up there?? New xbox??? Then i started it again but the same shit but in the first loading sequence!!! I took a look on the disc and there was a big fat scrach!!!!!

The new console doesn't destroy discs if you use it properly. It even has a warning on it not to move it while a disc is inserted. Try moving a PS3 around like that and I bet the same thing will happen.

I accidently had lost odyssey in the xbox 360 when it was on and tilted it forgetting it had nice circular scratches on it so these idiots are telling you something you know already. If this happens to you do what i did order the game from new online then when you recieve it swap the new disc with the damaged disc and send it back for a full refund that way it don;t cost anything and you get a new disc. They never hardly check Play.com are the best for this :-)
It's a common knowledge thing, don't move the system while there's a disk inside and it's on.. the disk is spinning at that time so moving it throws it off it's spinning axis which causes scratches..

No, this will not happen with a Wii or PS3 because their disc trays are different, but this WILL happen to anything that uses a sliding tray like this. Is it a problem? Yes... If you intend on flipping your console around while you play. If you're a person with common sense, then no, this will not happen. It's an Xbox 360. It's something that was meant to stay stationary.

Not a new at all. They've had a class action lawsuit against them (Microsoft) since around 2007-2008 for this issue. I spoke to a GM of Microsoft and had mine replaced for free 2 years out of warranty in exchange for not joining the lawsuit. A third party company found that a truck driving by your house can cause enough vibration to damage the disk. Definitely not a new problem. It stems from poor manufacturing decisions (leaving out rubber bumpers that stop disk tray from hitting laser housing)

My 360 fell over onto my beanbag...but it killed halo reach...and like, when I play black ops, my controller like just stops responding (I've tried with 2 controllers, new batteries in each) and it automatically sends me forwards and will not let me do ANYTHING until I shut my console off.

uuh, Ps3 doesn't do that, I know because I moved downstairs yesterday with my ps3 and lost planet 2 was in my ps3. Cd was fine, a console is not supposed to do that, even dvd-players. Why didn't they changed it on the new 360? Ps3 uses lasers, why do they keep that old stuff, it's a new 360! xD

I Agree with everyone why would he of picked it up and this is nothing new. I have done it with my white 360 when I first bought the system I decided that I wanted to have it laying horizontal and when the xbox was about at an 45 degree angle it ate the disc. OOOOOPPPSS never have done that again

I had Play Station, a freind has PS2 and i tested it with PS3. Moving them just makes the reading slower, and when they go old moving them helps read the disc. So- you mad xboxfags?

I started it up a few hours ago the first time and was playing Fable3 and after 15 - 20 Minutes when it was loading, there was this sound like u press the button in the middle of the joystick and the xbox stopped working!!! I thought whats up there?? New xbox??? Then i started it again but the same shit but in the first loading sequence!!! I took a look on the disc and there was a big fat scrach!!!!!

The new console doesn't destroy discs if you use it properly. It even has a warning on it not to move it while a disc is inserted. Try moving a PS3 around like that and I bet the same thing will happen.

The only reasons why PS3's don't scratch disks is because it sits on it's fat ass and the Xbox 360 Disk drive spins about 3X faster than a PS3 drive.

@wonderwilly96 True, but the 360 only gives you like 3 options for their hard drives, and none of them are very big. Can't do that for all your games, if you have very many of them. And I was talking about if you're in the middle of a game, can't save, and you need to move your console.

@croc97 Yes it is. The PS3 and Wii have mechanisms to hold the disc still, and keep the diode from rubbing the disc when moved. Microsoft is just, and always has been, lazy.

I accidently had lost odyssey in the xbox 360 when it was on and tilted it forgetting it had nice circular scratches on it so these idiots are telling you something you know already. If this happens to you do what i did order the game from new online then when you recieve it swap the new disc with the damaged disc and send it back for a full refund that way it don;t cost anything and you get a new disc. They never hardly check Play.com are the best for this :-)

It's a common knowledge thing, don't move the system while there's a disk inside and it's on.. the disk is spinning at that time so moving it throws it off it's spinning axis which causes scratches..
This isn't a "new xbox 360 problem" this is an ignoring "common knowledge" problem..

Ok, too everyone who is apparently stupid: This problem is caused because of the type of disc tray in use. No, this will not happen with a Wii or PS3 because their disc trays are different, but this WILL happen to anything that uses a sliding tray like this. Is it a problem? Yes... If you intend on flipping your console around while you play. If you're a person with common sense, then no, this will not happen. It's an Xbox 360. It's something that was meant to stay stationary.
