I would say that it is squarely in the realm of analog synth. The CMOS CD40106 is used to generate the actual tones (rectangular waves) you hear and the filter is straight analog. In digital synths there is generally a CPU and ROM memory that holds snippets of digital representation of the sounds the synth makes.
This is brilliant, such great sounds from a pretty simple circuit. I haven't got round to building a WSG yet and I'm already thinking about modding it. Cheers
