I was sent this as "Steam Porn" by an old school mate in Australia. I sent it to others in Singapore and in the UK. I can only say ignore all the ones above who describe it as misty, grey or whatever. The atmosphere you caught was superb and shows what a skilled person with a camera can do. Why do all the critics want everthing perfect, taking no notice of scaredy sheep etc. and the Autumn? Typical anoraks! And I'm a tram and third rail chap myself, so double congratulations.
Many thanks Vic, it was an enjoyable day to film, if a little grey. All quiet on the steam front for a little while now. I'll have to start digging up some old footage!!
Marvellous locations Austin (especially Penistone). Interesting to see the overhead wires didn't spoil the Copy Pit shot - they've always put me off filming from that side (along with the sun, of course). Wish I knew how you get such high quality images on YouTube - make mine look like they were filmed through a pair of old tights. Chris
Thanks Chris, I had wanted to film from that side of the line for a while and conditions were right on this occasion. Re the high quality, I delve into the dark arts and tweak things a little. I'll send you a PM later and let you know the settings I use.
Great stuff, really top quality. Thanks for posting. With all that smoke about it's just as well the Climate Change Brigade were otherwise engaged at Ratcliffe.
Another top notch video! I was one of the poor saps taking still pictures at Copy Pit, and they're awful! It was still worth going though for the sight and sound. Great to have your video to relive it. Didn't know there was a shot from above Cowburn Tunnel. Very nice!
Cheers, it is one of the advantages of video to keep on filming in poor light. That sight and sound at Copy Pit will live in the memory banks for a few years
Austin, the Copy pit sequence is without a doubt the finest i've ever seen in the valley. The acoustic there on a still, misty day is unbelievable, beautifully captured...................Matt
Thanks Matt, as you know you don't get too many chances to film from that side of the line because of the sun, the video doesn't really do justice to the noise and the smell of smoke in the air long after they had passed
Thanks a lot, I wouldn't say yours was a poor effort, it's another record of the day. Put everyones videos together and we have most locations pretty well covered.
That video just got better and better Austin, and that last shot was absolutely superb. It brings back happy memories of when I travelled over this route behind Oliver Cromwell back in 1968...5* Bob
I was taking B&W photos and recorded most of the day on audio tape which I've still got. The cylinder drain cocks were stuck on the off side for most of the day which was a little annoying at the time...Bob
Absolute perfection!

Thanks very much, it was a misty grey sort of day so you can only film what you see. I was quite pleased with the results given the conditions.

Thanks very much, the view is great from that side at Copy Pit as long as there's no sun, no danger of that last week!!

Thanks Steve, I was pleased with that shot, the noise was tremendous and of course modern cameras can cope really well with the poor light.

There are excellent compilations of this special and this is one of them, illuminating a rather gloomy day. 5* Thanks for sharing - Mike

Thanks Mike, it was certainly gloomy but at least with video you can carry on filming for longer than if doing stills

Excellent footage Austin with great locations. We weren't too far apart at Penistone but I think you were in the better position. Mike

Thanks Mike, I met a chap at Ashton Moss a few weeks ago who tipped me off about that spot at Penistone so I owe him a pint I think
