Chino is an extraordinary singer. He conveys strong emotions through his voice, not just tones... He speaks to your inner self and if you can hear him talk to you with his music, then you know what I'm talking about. So learn to listen to Deftones, because their music is a gift from heaven.

I agree, in my opinion The Deftones are one of the most interesting bands of their genre. However, they annoy me at the same time, e.g the live version of Be Quiet and Drive w/ Adam Sandler and Incubus is very painful and cheesy.

Chino takes chances with his vocals and pushes his range to the utmost extreme, it takes balls and adds to feeling in the songs. Cedric (the mars volta) does the same thing, no they arent going to sound exactly like they do on the record, do they still move you when you see them live? Yes.
My hearing isnt wonderfull but I love his voice and guitar playing. Effects dont matter to me. I like to look at music as a 1 contributed piece.. Not vocals, bass, drums, guitar, turntables. I just have a problem with the epic singing like Iron Maiden and judas priest.. I seriously get sick from that. Its because they emphasize the vocals too much. And I just hate the opera singing.

He needs a vocal coach who can help him build his muscles and scream without damaging his voice further. Melissa Cross is a well known coach and has instructional dvd's that work if you exercise and breathe properly. Chino is fuckin bad ass I hope he takes care of himself and works his chords more often.

Maybe too late to be exactly like his younger days but as long as you have vocal chords and a diaphram then you can still do more to help perserve and/or improve your voice. He has to stop doing dumbass things like drinking before singing which basically dehydrates you. Some people can smoke and drink and still sing well enough but for most that isn't going to work. He isn't a great singer but really lucky to have such a unique vocal sound. Thats what saves him
He isn't the best singer ever but the drama in his quivered vocals and the creamy smooth style come off really good at times on a better performance. But sometimes like this one shows, he can sound bad. But I rather have somone that gives it thier all then resort to lip syncing the entire thing. And sometimes when he is fucked up it only adds more drama to his vocals and melancholic style. But I'm really happy he can still give out fome good performances after so long. His screams are wicked.

The Deftones are one of my favourite bands. But I have to agree that this definately isn't the best recording. I've spent the money on the dvd and I still think it. Still love the Deftones. Totally agree with you (Isaacsosas) Hate when people do this, just put negative comments up, The truth is, they had just come off a very long tour when they recorded this, and chino could hardly speak after it, he actually thought he mite never get his voice back and he had to undergo a long spell of vocal training, that is why he sounds like that, but to be honest the dvd that this performance was on, chino probly didn't want that song to be put on there, he wud have known he sounded bad....
Chino is struggling here for whatever reasons but thats cool because he as well as the whole band have proven themselves to be fucking awesome on many many occasions. Everyone goes through not so good times and I think that it is quite an honest insight into the whole band. They are only human like us all. Besides when Chino is on fire I reckon that he has one of the sexiest voices ever!!

to be fair you have appreciate how demanding the voicals are for chino in deftones. your average band doesnt stretch their vocals like he does. thats part of what makes deftones such a great band

Every video I've seen of chino, he sucks live. Listen to 2:16. He only sounds good on the albums. Which is a shame because I really like the way he sounds on the albums.

He needs a vocal coach who can help him build his muscles and scream without damaging his voice further. Melissa Cross is a well known coach and has instructional dvd's that work if you exercise and breathe properly. Chino is fuckin bad ass I hope he takes care of himself and works his chords more often.

I know right! I love deftones too, his voice sounds shot to pieces here though. People just get defensive for many reasons. Chino has a long history of doing damage to his voice and hopefully he takes better care so more musik can be made long term.

Maybe too late to be exactly like his younger days but as long as you have vocal chords and a diaphram then you can still do more to help perserve and/or improve your voice. He has to stop doing dumbass things like drinking before singing which basically dehydrates you. Some people can smoke and drink and still sing well enough but for most that isn't going to work. He isn't a great singer but really lucky to have such a unique vocal sound. Thats what saves him

He isn't the best singer ever but the drama in his quivered vocals and the creamy smooth style come off really good at times on a better performance. But sometimes like this one shows, he can sound bad. But I rather have somone that gives it thier all then resort to lip syncing the entire thing. And sometimes when he is fucked up it only adds more drama to his vocals and melancholic style. But I'm really happy he can still give out fome good performances after so long. His screams are wicked.

The Deftones are one of my favourite bands. But I have to agree that this definately isn't the best recording. I've spent the money on the dvd and I still think it. Still love the Deftones. I wouldn't go as far as saying it sucks, it's just not the best. :] Everyone, leave the guy alone, he's entitled to his opinions, just as I am to mine, and you are to yours. <3

Totally agree with you (Isaacsosas) Hate when people do this, just put negative comments up, The truth is, they had just come off a very long tour when they recorded this, and chino could hardly speak after it, he actually thought he mite never get his voice back and he had to undergo a long spell of vocal training, that is why he sounds like that, but to be honest the dvd that this performance was on, chino probly didn't want that song to be put on there, he wud have known he sounded bad....

Chino is struggling here for whatever reasons but thats cool because he as well as the whole band have proven themselves to be fucking awesome on many many occasions. Everyone goes through not so good times and I think that it is quite an honest insight into the whole band. They are only human like us all. Besides when Chino is on fire I reckon that he has one of the sexiest voices ever!!
