Since it's a brass band why are they using trumpets? And the soloist would be at home in a jazz band maybe, but it's totally the wrong style for this type of group.

@brassbandadjudicator It's a brass band "L.A. Style!" Not many of the players around here actually have cornets, so to keep it uniform everyone plays on trumpets. Overall, American brass musicians are a bit more "boisterous" than their UK counterparts. Plus, you've got to consider that there are very few British-style brass bands in the American West, and few brass musicians around here even listen to British brass bands, so there is less opportunity for stylistic influence.

That's Joe Motter. He played that different every time. Yes, he's an incredible player, and incredibly versatile, too. Equally at home in a symphony orchestra or salsa band!
