  • Since it's a brass band why are they using trumpets? And the soloist would be at home in a jazz band maybe, but it's totally the wrong style for this type of group.

  • @brassbandadjudicator It's a brass band "L.A. Style!" Not many of the players around here actually have cornets, so to keep it uniform everyone plays on trumpets. Overall, American brass musicians are a bit more "boisterous" than their UK counterparts. Plus, you've got to consider that there are very few British-style brass bands in the American West, and few brass musicians around here even listen to British brass bands, so there is less opportunity for stylistic influence.

  • That's Joe Motter. He played that different every time. Yes, he's an incredible player, and incredibly versatile, too. Equally at home in a symphony orchestra or salsa band!
