  • My friend and I absolutely love MediaOutletOnline for doonnlooading f~ree s0ngs similar to this. You all can search it using Google.

  • C'est vraiment de la guitare !...

  • aweful mono sound quality

  • Hell yes!!!

  • nice playing..... He is a great guitarist.....

  • nice playinn'..... He is a great guitarist.....

  • dope

  • cmon, such a great performance and the sound is only mono?

  • Arguing about metal on a jazz video.

    Jesus Christ you people.

  • hahaha, sorry but how could you dislike this, unless for ironic purposes??

  • Whoever said metal isn't technical is not a musician, clearly you haven't listened to good metal. Heres an example or two try "Laser Speed- Between the Buried and Me" or "The Last Baron-Mastodon" I have seen jazz music (which i deem the most technical and musical genre) that doesn't come close to the skill and sound those artists produce.

  • That's it. These guys are definitely hacking

  • Pat Metheny Adalah Dewa !

  • I effing love Sanchez's playing.....

  • Steve Rodby and Paul Wertico's new band - Marbin

  • 9 people ask an hairdresser how to get his hair

  • i am always amazed at what i hear with pat and this amazingly fast in-sync art blows me away

  • The only jazz guitarist to make me cry - with awe, and at the sheer beauty of even his most discordant passages. Truly one of the greats of all time.

  • increible como siempre.

  • I'm a professional musician, playing all over the world and the first thing I thought was: i give up!! Just like our friend Ejamieson...of course it's not exactly like that cause i'm also a singer/ songwriter etc but you guitarists know what we mean : ))

  • @cezarsantana Yeah...right.

  • Comment removed

  • I give up

  • bee bop goodness luvin it

  • be-bop op op bravo !

  • これ最高!

  • this is sped up...

  • one side only

  • Keep burnin pat!......love it

  • that looks like something more Fusion than jazz for me but nice performance :D

  • I have been a jazz lover all my life, but this recording is crap. I know these musician and they are unsurpassed, but don't degrade them by this low quality crap recording. Put some quality production on her and I'm sure others will agree with Zeppy. Now quit being a tard.

  • I wonder how many times he cum during playing...What do you think?

  • @ThePetruccijunior 0.29 3 times

  • IL GRANDE PAT METHENY

  • remember petrucci

  • Athiest

  • Mono ????

  • Yeah sounds real bad over youtube, bet its good in RL though.

  • What happened to the sound? Only getting audio in the left channel...

  • one of the best drummers

  • Dam ! the both are awesome!

  • what a drummer ....!!!!!!!!!!!

    holy shit!!!

  • I love it. Intense.

  • I enjoyed it.

  • put distortion on the guitar and people would call it metal.

  • no...no they wouldn't.

  • yes! why not!! after all alot of metallers are fans of jazz and they did manage to incorporate jazz elements in their music: cynic, megadeth, pestilence....

  • For jazz in Metal I'd rather quote Meshuggah, Dillinger Escape Plan, Raxinasky and such as examples. Megadeth really doesn't have anything jazzy...

  • sorry but meshuggah has nothing to do with jazz, i said megadeth because chris poland has been always under the ifluence of jazz/fusion music, anyway, a load of metal bands are into jazz, blues,rock...here you find what im talking about:

    watch?v=9wwjMwIhr0o&feature=related

    watch?v=7oi9Hw303K4

    watch?v=BiCRf5mWvFk&feature=related

    watch?v=gaEgNU1wqQ8&feature=related

some songs have only seconds of jazz alike melodies.

  • Misery Signals.

  • @anahowana meshuggah

  • @anahowana don't forget Atheist FFS !

  • @therealdooz

I don't think so. Metheny's phrasing does not have the required anger.

  • @therealdooz haha thats definatly untrue bud! i've played both! musically they are much more different! more than adding distortion anyway!

  • @therealdooz No way! They would call it distorted jazz guitar.

  • @therealdooz

I'm pretty sure pat metheny's bebop licks differ from metal..

  • @therealdooz

You clearly have no idea of what's really going on here. This is far more complex and technical than metal stuff, regardless of shallow details such as speed or distorted vs clean sound. It's not even close.

  • @lavacaqrie what's sad is that most people I know who listen to metal don't think that this is fast lol I think that's what therealdooz was referring to, if not ... then idk.

  • @therealdooz thats pretty ignorant

  • @therealdooz sorry , you are wrong, and you definitely dont know anything about good metal. if you are trying to say that just because this is fast and you cant follow it it is metal, you are completely wrong. jazz, unlike metal (a very vague term, btw, since there are so many different kinds of metal, good and bad), does like to play in a mess (albeit, wonderful) and use a ton of off-chord-tone notes. lots of metal is done by skilled and creative musicians, so please also be specific

  • @therealdooz You are clueless.

  • @therealdooz the timings and harmony is a lot more complicated

  • @therealdooz maybe you should listen more to ymngwie malmsteen shit before this touch of pleasured armony.

  • W.O.W!!!

  • Fantastic! (:

  • Fantastic. I saw them do something similar at Villa Pisani, Stra, Italia 2002.

  • a la MADRE!!!!

  • I have no words for this duet... as the title says, simply amazing !!

  • antonio sanchez is the best drummer

  • Mexico...allllll the way!!!

    :D

  • any1 know of some good cds to buy revolving around this sort of jazz? cause i love jazz and all the classics but i love small trios up to like sextets, that play this kind of stuff.

  • check out any allan holdsworth trio stuff, even the stuff with a singer is great to me you'll be glad you did

  • Music is not about being close minded or bashing someone's creative expression. The White Stripes are extremely creative in their realm, Jack White is incredibly talented as a writer and performer. Just because you love jazz doesn't make other music "obsolete" or "lesser" music, I can guarantee that Pat Matheny and Antonio Sanchez listen to music other than jazz. The best music doesn't come from one source and one source only, i.e. Jonny Greenwood listening to Reggae for six months.

  • white stripes are great!

you should accept other music style like this minimalism style too

  • i think you're getting ahead of the game. ppl who think they have a progressive ear sometimes like to set ppl straight for a comment they may have made. but i happen to know of several bands who i think the stripes completely heisted material from: everyone has formulated their own opinions but i have NO regard for posing bands who take a particular sound and replicate it. bottom line: the stripe aint creative therefore they dont belong in this type of discussion

  • You want something fast and may be not 4/4???

Something unique??? Something that missed all the classes at school? From anybody who has not ever gone to music school? :) then watch this:

    watch?v=DLQcknhApjM&feature=channel_page

  • Antonio Sanchez is about as real a drummer as you can get. don't start with the who's who game...

  • MONSTEROUS.......simply MONSTEROUS!!!!.....i watch this and i feel i cant fuckin play.........the GREAT JAZZ master of are time!!!

  • he's a cheesy bastard but he can play

  • Beastly

  • except the white stripes suck dick.

  • i dont think its right to diss the white stripes or anyone else trying to express their creativity through music regardless of your own personal music tastes.

  • My opinion is what I think, you don't have to agree, honestly, good musicians in this world know that the white stripes are a joke.

  • I think the white stripes look great! I love Pat's shirt!

  • Music is not all about skill. There are different factors such as personal taste and the way in which you percieve expression through music to be. I dont think the white strips are particularly talented musicians, but i enjoy thier music as i appreciate their expression - not their skill

  • yeah they r a joke personally. if you wanna name bands outside of jazz that are really 'creative' it's easy: rush, floyd, flaming lips(soft bulletin, only to me),irepress, red sparrowe, ulrich schnauss(electro guy, which i rarely like)

  • i think what the flaming lips did with 'the soft bulletin' blows all the copycat stripes stuff outta the water. that type of expression was done perfectly back then i.e. the stripes dont even belong in this situation

  • jeez my comment got completely buried! didnt mean any disrespect to pat.. just wanted to point out that it is unusual to see a guitar-drums duo in jazz.. pat has been my favorite guitarist for years and this is actually one of my fave tunes.

  • just excellent!

  • That's hilarious!

  • genius

  • holy..... (*@(#*&!(*@#!!!!

  • so.... like, uhhhhhh.. what key is this in?

  • Fuck... I'm still trying to figure out the time signature haha

  • 4/4

  • ....no

  • I agree. They´ve discovered the G-spot without help from Kenny.

  • @UppinDisma ...yes

  • LOL funny

  • dang

  • "Metheny the Great".

  • Weird Mono-sound on left side here, too 8(

  • only coming out of one speaker

  • mga gagogago kamo

  • omfg this is sex

  • he just owned every metal shredder and sweeper alive.

    Matheny=gold

  • Yeah b/c he's arguably the best. I could pick a metheny solo out of 100. Not even second guessing. Most unique and interesting improviser on guitar possibly ever

  • I grew up on post-bop...high school was Miles doing "sketches of spain"...I am so SO glad that some talented people are keeping the flow alive, and going..

  • Metheny is awesome.

  • Pat Metheny a legnagyobb!

  • VIVA MEXICOO !!!:D

  • do I have to study jazz for 10 years to get this

  • yes

  • That's not really a good thing.

  • thats my fucking antonio seriously he is my god.

and yeah stfu if you dont get this

  • does anyone know wuts the name of that one metheny's song that an argentine guy sings?

  • "Dream of the return" (Letter from home, Best Jazz Fusion Performance 1989 - 32nd Annual GRAMMY Awards). The singer (and lyrics´s author) is Pedro Aznar.

  • jazz,so much freedom in music. pat is one of the greatest guitarist in jazz history.

  • He's i think the top of the Top 3: Metheny, Scofield, Martino. And he's not just one of the greatest guitarists, he's in the top 100 musicians that ever lived.

  • I quit... FOREVER

  • Sanchez is a BEAST

  • they are NOT people.

  • Y arriba mexico kbrones, bien por Antonio

  • If you guys can't appreciate this, either listen to more jazz---so you will be able to appreciate it---or listen to something else and STFU.

  • i know what you mean this kind of talent brings pretty damn near to some kind of implosion

  • This is way too much talent for me.

  • hey guys i ve just post some new videos pat metheny live at Umbria jazz 2008. Should see

  • I feel badly for Pat because he just can't win. If he puts out a pretty-melodies fuzak record, modern guys (like me) say, "Aw, come on, man!" On the other hand, if he plays to his potential, (like this example), old-timers like louie jump all over him.

  • Hard to believe that you can talk about PM in such a condescending way. You're not such a "modern guy". You're 41. Just b/c you read Slonimsky doesn't make you cool. I'm quite sure that PM knows as much as the next guy & has recorded w/some of the greatest musicians in the world. Ornette Coleman for one, & perhaps, closer to your taste. You don't need to feel bad for PM. He's one of the most successful jazz artists in the world & he doesn't need your approval.

  • "I feel badly for Pat "

Don't, he knows exactly what he's doing. The yuppie jazz is his income, so, he can play stuff like Ornette....otherwise he'd absolutely have to get a job. Same with Brad Meldhau copping pop tunes for their heads...and then he plays jazz. It's a great way to get views and attention and ultimately money. If he did standards....he'd have to get a job. These guys know what they're doing.

  • guitarguy10000, well put. Perhaps we should feel bad for those jazz musicians true to their art who never get to see the light of day (so to speak), leaving themselves no choice but to keep a day job. PM's composition are all sublime (whether they meet the approval of purists or not) and belong in the lineage w/great composers of the last 400 years. All great composers sometimes wrote beneath their abilities for whatever reason - for income, I would imagine. They did it, & Pat does it, too.

  • Arnold Schoenberg never did that. And he revolutionized music with his atonal system.

  • Modes9, I believe I misread your comment and took it in the wrong way. Particularly as you referenced louie's comment, which I had not read. I get it now. Sorry about my comment to you. Jazz rules.

  • ANTONI ES EL MEJOR

  • wow not lyrical? everyone's a freakin critic, huh?

  • Take your old man talk and shove it up your ass, you don't know more than anyone by talking about the old cats, music moves on, just like everything else in society tends too. Get hip or get the fuck out, there is no one way to do things.

  • can somebody tell me the brand of cymbals he uses, and the specific models if possible?

  • its the drummer not the cymbals

  • Although the size and brand of the cymbals DO determine sound and quality. It's all part of it: Modell (sound), brand (quality) and drummer (technique).

  • zildijan cymbals and sticks

    evans drumheads

    :D

  • This is like precise execution.

  • i feel antonio sanchez couldve used the kick more sparingly, not that i could attempt anything close to that performance

  • Now THAT was some mighty gitdown! Wow

  • i love this piece specially live, and the way antonio sanchez plays the drums is off the chart,c heck my vides and please comment

  • Nobody on the face of this earth can play as melodically over an altered chord as Metheny. Actually, make that any chord.

  • view my new video of simon philips doing an amazing solo with TOTO!

  • Damn! Awesome!!

  • im going tonight you freaks!!

  • This is great, around 1:18 he sneaks a country lick in for a laugh I'd presume and its really cool how the drummer picks up in this right away. Shows how in tune these cats are.

  • then again look at his face, they're madly concentrated lol. The video is totally insane love it^^

  • MONSTERIOUS!!!!!!!!!

  • LOVE this pat clip ! ty!

  • Metheny should play more jazz music like this. I don't really like his smooth albums with PMG (but, for example, 'The way up' is good).

  • awesome

  • Yeah!

    Fantastic.

  • Can someone tell what other records or recordings this has appeared on? I got a glimpse of some mindless bullshit and I'm not about to look through the comments.

  • This is on the Trio-record, i think from 1999.

  • Guys dont fall in stupid games of school kids :D

metallica and slipknot how to play better than me... but i dont imagine them playing with that feeling on the interpretation... :D methene is the best (for me)

  • metheny*

    ups

  • poor bella682 :( must be really horrible being a cunt!!

  • You guy's are wankers.

    That had energy.

  • yeah i was defending this piece. pat metheny is a musical genius. anybody that watches this should see the pure dedicated musicianship of these people, whether or not they like it. pat metheny is somebody that knows what music as a real artform is. although some people may not like it, that doesnt mean its shit. anybody with any level of musicical education and basic understanding of jazz will appreciate the skill and art involved here.
