If it were recoil operated, you would lose muzzle velocity while increasing recoil due to the energy being present to push back on the slide. I read years ago that they had repeated tests while designing the gun where the gun completely blew itself apart. gas operation reduces frame stress

@CheekytheDemon that is certainly not a dumb question. This is my guess as to why. the .45 acp projectile is a very slow moving round. It does not have the energy required to cycle the slide after diverting part of the gas through a gas tube. I also think that you would lose too much energy to make the cartridge effective. The final reason, is that it is just plain not necessary. To a trained operator, the .45 is not a hard firearm to control.

The Desert Eagle is worthless as a weapon. By the time you can aim and fire it twice, somebody with a 9mm, a .40, or a .45 can put about 10 holes in you. It's recoil is WAY too high for practical use. There is such a thing as too much.

No, but a .45 hollowpoint can, and with half the recoil. I own 3 glock's in .45 ACP. A 21, a 30, and a 36. I have a concealed carry license, and usually pack the 36 in an ankle holster. Someone could argue they prefer the Desert Eagle for its stopping power, but unless they live with the possibility that they may have to stop a charging Polar Bear it's hardly a valid argument. Besides, who would want to walk around packing a 5 pound pistol??? Afterall, a fully loaded M4 is only 6.9 pounds.

@joseph16joseph your uploads contain videos of combat arms, a cheap free fps, meaning, you're probably like 14 years old, and as such, most likely have never touched a real firearm. These guys in the video weren't properly gripping which leads to more recoil. This is also a very heavy handgun and requires a bit of muscle so don't be so quick to judge, they probably did a lot better than you would have.
