  • I'm excited to see Catalina's comeback.

  • i like the fluff 2.

  • @sunnygymnast TheNBC fluffs are great indeed, but the commentators are crap. With the BBC it's kinda the other way around i guess

  • This is easily the best gymnastics fluff I have ever seen. This was one of the great competitions in gymnastic history.

  • Hum...Khorkina! Their temperamental queen?...she doesn't scare me. I can kick her ass in a fight!

  • Annia Hatch travelled so far on her vault!

  • ce bine imi pare ca au castigat bravo fetele!!!!!!

and svetlana mouth is like a ass of chicken .

  • ce bine imi pare ca au castigat bravo fetele!!!!!!

  • annia's vault was amazing

  • @78thefirstlady octavian belu is back!!!

  • Does anyone know the name of the music playing during the opening fluff?

  • I will never forget Octavian Belu , he is a very good coach.

  • omg Anya got SO much distance on that vault!

  • y they didn't give them a pre-warm up to the vault? huh? eh?

  • @snofagun1814 That was the old Code of Points. 3 up, 3 count, and no one-touch warm up before the team final.

  • proud to b romanian.

  • Does the hand placement on the vault during a tsuk matter? Are both hands supposed to be facing the runway, or can one be quarter turned like a roundoff?

  • @ladodgerschick the fingertips should be faced towards the runway in a tsuk

  • Oooo Carly's eyebrows! Love Annia and Mohini's vaults. Annia's legs weren't crossed as much as Mohini's.

lol the Romanian girls and their little gelled bangs :)

  • @ladodgerschick Those bangs were in fashion at my school in the 90's here in England. If you didn't have them, you were like a leper.

  • Here we have the Romanian team, the Russian team, and six gymnasts from the U.S.

  • They didn't critique the American vaults at all, they sounded hopeful when Ponor stepped back.

  • @emmyjo720 Because NBC commentators obviously want the Americans to win..it's called bias but also national pride. However, when BBC commentators root on for British gymnasts, it's entirely appropriate. Besides, Ponor had the most disgusting post-flight on that "laid out" double twisting Yurchenko.

  • wow! go annia! awesome vault!

  • Wow - Mohini sure does know how to deliver!!

  • I enjoy the fluff as well!

  • Im just wondering, when Mohini scored 9.70 was that when the DTY was 10.0 start value in 1996 or 9.90 in 2000 or out of the 9.80 it was now?

  • out of 9.80... i think.

  • I probably stand along when I say this but, I like the fluff. I like the sentiment and drama the fluff creates, it takes gymnastics beyond the Olympics and beyond just a sport.

  • I agree the fluff gets me in the spirit. NBC makes amazing fluff.

  • I agree with you too. I don't like Al at all, he has no idea what he is talking about most of the time, but I was impressed with this fluff.

  • @TsubasaDreams I love the fluff, too! Al does a GREAT job!

  • Comment removed

  • The only thing Tim can do is that annoying sport commentator fluff voice. He should stick to that.

  • hahahaha im sorry right, what the hell is with the opening?bbc coverage is much less...gushy

  • Anyone notice how much less fluff there was in the Beijing Olympics?

  • It's only part 1 and already Tim's getting on my nerves.

  • I like how some people choose to focus on the negative (or most controversial, which is the same to some people) of Khorkina and ignore all the good things she's done. For example, she has a her own competition in her hometown Belograd. It is a competition for younger levels and the gymnasts get prizes such as vacuum cleaners and practical items (i.e. things that they actually need and can be very expensive in Russia if imported). Khorkina buys all the prizes with her own money.

  • athens was the best broadcast of the olympic WAG aa. they showed most of the 1st and 2nd groups in each rotation, which is where the medal contenders are.

  • with the new scoring system, i'd have given annia a 15.5 = 5.8 + 9.7

    and monica a 15.8 = 6.0 + 9.8

  • Annia Hatch would have gotten a 15.2 AT THE MOST!! Her feet were not all the way pointed, her hips were a shade off 180 degrees, and she got 2 tenths, mabye three tenths on the dismount... Remember, this is international judging :)

  • Poor Sveta's losing her battle with her ED here. I know she went on to recover, but it was very bad in Greece.

  • Did she ever admit to struggling with an eating disorder? I totally agree that she certainly looks like she's having major issues here.

  • To my knowledge, she never said she had an eating disorder, but like you noted, it's not very hard to miss. Not many elites compete at the highest levels with EDs (they usually fall apart or get kicked out of the gym before it gets that bad), but I think Sveta here is in a bad way with it. I know cause I have fought the fucking beast for years and still do. There's a "look," and you can't mistake that look. It's called starvation.

  • i looove the fluff :) one of the bests from nbc♥

  • Wow- this brings back memories! Romania and U.S. were very strong teams. The Romanians had an unbelievable team performance but we really needed Courtney McCool to be on her A game at these games to overtake Romania.

  • yeah. I missed her.

  • It wouldn't have hurt to have a few more teenagers on the team, either.

  • PLEASE PLEAS ttell me whats the name of the music i luv watchin de first piece nearly made me cry

  • DAMN. Rosu's vault alone could have outscored the rest of the girls vaults. It was amazing - she was amazing. Sad she had such a short career. I would have loved for her to be at the Beijing Olympics.

  • I am with you on that one. Such a talent! She had so much potential still, but she was unlucky to be in a bad context.

  • Ponor was usually overscored, if you check out photos or footage in slow motion of her routines, you will see lots of bent knees and crossed legs on her floor routines, i'm not a gymnast, but I think that those are very obvious mistakes and fair deductions; but I don't think she had some deduction for that, I still like her, however her form was not very good (she is one of my favorite beam workers, on beam her form was a little better)

  • I really do not think so, she is a great gymnasts.

  • She is great, sure, and I don't deny that, but that she had obvious form deductions, and you can't deny that. But Cata had artistry and elegance, so, her dancing helped to score well, but I'm still saying that sometimes her scores were a little high, for me she is the best beam worker of the last 8 years!!!!

  • i'm surprised your comment got downvoted so much. i agree 100%.

  • Why they show the Soviet teams and say that they are russians??? In all the Soviet Teams very few gymnasts were actually russians!!!

  • cuz americans are clueless about what they are talking!!! best gymnasts in the soviet union were actually ukraynian :P

  • That's true to an extent. Amazing people like Tatiana Gutsu were from Ukraine, but many came from all over the Soviet Union. For example, we had Shushunova, born in Leningrad, Davydova from south of Moscow, Boguinskaya from Belarus, Chusovitina from Uzbekistan, etc.

  • Yeah, but Russians weren't the base of their teams, to tell something in Barcelona, i guess that just one girl was russian, and since the split of the Soviet union, Russia hadn't has won any team final, while Romania, China and Usa had won something (fair or unfair is other thing). Of course that in russia are awesome gymnasts!!!!

  • lovin' ania's vault. i've never seen anyone travel so far!

  • It's crazy that there's almost a 10 year age gap between Carly and Annia.

  • what happened to the full premlim competiton, it used to be on youtubee???

  • Nicoleta Daniela Sofronie

    You're so adorable

    You're a goddess

  • this event was amazing. I enjoyed seeing how the romanians kicked the american girls' asses.

  • yeah, it was pretty funny that the americans got beaten by things like catalina ponor's "laid-out" DTY

  • if you're refering to catalina beating patterson on beam, you're absurd. she totally earned her medal; catalina's routine was more clean, and while patterson took a hop in her dismount, catalina's was stuck.

  • no, i was talking about how the americans were injured and also performed badly, and still couldn't overcome romania, who hit well but still left the door open with a bunch of form errors on vault and uneven bars...i was merely citing ponor's vault as an example of one of those breaks

  • If by "left the door open" you mean "didn't make a single major mistake"...then yes. The Americans made at least three, not to mention a few lackluster performances and putting up a beam routine that didn't start at ten for no reason (that we know of). Not only did the USA lose, but Romania won. Deservedly.

  • yes, and it was really sad because both teams had ugly gymnastics. the real potential in athens laid within the chinese and russian individual gymnasts

  • Very true, especially with regard to Anna Pavlova's completely bogus 4th place AA finish and, well, most of the Chinese team--but in particular Fan Ye and Li Ya. But I still love watching the Romanians hit routine after routine...after routine. If only Sabina Cojocar could have been there....

  • yeah! cojocar would have been great. same with petrovschi

  • It's a shame they didn't choose to use Annia on more, she was a great all-arounder.

  • She was recovering from a torn ACL here.

  • i cant believe non of the romanian girls here went to beijing.. They are like machines who dont make mistakes..

  • I think one romanian did go to Beijing, I read it on the net.

  • No, la unica q volvio fue ponor, en los mundiales del 2007, pero, se retiro despues, dijo q x motivos d salud

  • It's nice to know that the whole world still remembers Nadia Comaneci, I always went for the romanians. In this team my favourite was Nicoleta Daniela Sofronie.

  • god, that opening is breath-taking

  • and annia's vault is beautiful

  • Thanks so much!

  • Never been a summer Olympics since 1976 without mentioning Nadia.

  • what is the piece of music in the background of the presentation at the beginning? please!!!

  • You know what is so weird?? In 2004 AA Finals China won 3rd and in 2008 China won 3rd again. Also America won 1st in 2004 AA Finals and in 2008!

  • but then sydney romania ruled!

    good times

  • I know. I was so disappointed in the U.S. in Sydney but even though they got Silver in Athens, they reeeeaaaally came back. Go Carly!!!

  • Go Mo! What an inspiration she is!

  • as for "all gymnasts look anorexic" i strongly disagree. shawn jonhson, diane dos santos, marine debauve, sandra isbaza (never know how to spell it...) and sooo many more do NOT look anorexic! as for nastia, she is the picture of health, she just happens to be extremely thin, clearly she has inherited her genes from her mother. she does not look like an emanciated ostrich like khorkina did in the 2000s!

  • Why mention Khorkina's modelling and playboy pics? She is a grown adult.

  • because it's unethical when u're a gymnast. and she's lost the rescpect of many people because of that. mine, for instance.

  • She was an 18 year woman when she did it and she was playing with career possibilities, including modelling and posing nude was a choice she made, she has been very important to the changes in gymnastics, gymnasts are competing in their 20's, they have boyfriends, go to college, have sex like most in late teens and 20's. Gymnastics isn't a cute little girl's sport anymore, it is a woman's sport, the BBC coverage didn't even mention Khorkina's pose, it isn't relevent to her competition.

  • i'm not saying it was illegal. she was not underage, she wasn't pressured, she was a consenting adult. who posed nude. for a men's magazine. do u see where i'm going with this? she was respected as an amazing world-class gymnast until then, but as soon as word got out she had done that, a lotta people saw her as this air-headed diva who sold her body for the men's wankbank. not exaclty classy, is it? as for a "woman's sport", does that mean that a soon as they hit 18, they have to whore it out?

  • I don't regard 18 year olds becoming sexually active to be "whoring themselves out" and I don't think Khorkina did that either, she did what many young famous women do and posed nude for Playboy and earned more money than she ever could any job in Russia, good for her. As her career continued she got more sponsership money and endorsements than any gymnast before because they could compete as professionals. Khorkina is anything but an air head and grew out of that stage and has a child.

  • first off, i don't have a problem with sexually active teenager; but i do have a problem with teenagers, regarded as role models by thousands of young girls in the world, posing in playboy. in that sense, i believe khorkina is a bad role model. and u contradict yourself: if she wasn't an airhead, then how come she "grew out of that stage"? i do hope she has matured, but i'm sure she will have some explaining to do to her son when he becomes a teenager and starts buying this type of magazine...

  • She isn't an airhead, in Russia posing for Playboy is very lucretive, it was a photo shoot which was done in a stylish, arty manner and showed her breasts, she didn't do porn films, she was in an uncertain career as a gymnast looking for other options. It wasn't an airhead choice it opened up great opportunities for her. I am not sure why she has to be a role model but how about the fact that she showed that small cheasted, natural women that don't have long legs are sexy enough for Playboy.

  • u think a teenager posing for playboy is lucrative, and that it opens possibilities for young girl. as i recall you even said "good for her". well, that's where we disagree, i think it's disgraceful, tasteless and that someone like her who was an international icon should not sink as low as to do that. ever. and again, i would love to hear how she'll defend her actions to her teenage son in a few years. as for her figure, if anything she just encourages young girls to look anorexic.

  • The money they pay for a Playboy shoot is a small fortune in Russian money, just as the money the Romanians got for their porn film was. Lavinia Milsovievc, Aurelia Dobre and others have done down that route too for the money which they could never earn in Romanian for a better life for themselves and their families. All gymnasts look anorexic, they have a limited diet and extreme exercise, Nastia looks too thin but Sveta has had a baby with true Anorexics can't. Her son will also see a champion

  • wait a minute... milo and aurelia dobre did a porn movie???? omg i had no idea! i must say, u just ruined my day! what is wrong with the world?! why can't they go off to america or western europe and coach elite gymnasts? they would make better money than back home and at least it would be something honourable! something they would be proud of and they're good at. although maybe they are proud of and good at... i won't even finish that sentence. was that a trend in eastern europe in the 90s ?

  • no porn my god stay calm thay have few pictures they weren t even naked goood thay were topless indeed but not porn mouvies i am romanian i know that am i am saying thank you

  • good for you. no idea what you're on about though.

  • no idea?i have just answered to one of your comments you said that milo and dobre did a porn movie and i say is not true i just wanted to make this clear for you i am sorry you didn t understand

  • oh ok yeah. well, that was weeks ago i didn't remember that "conversation"... i do now. well, i'm just glad it wasn't actual porn, i'm still seriously chocked though; to see that these women are so desesperate for money that they would do that... yuck. anyway, they were amazing athletes, and that's how we should (try to) remember them!

  • Well, Khorkina posed for Playboy as well and nobody was scandalized about that. Not to mention that after they are done with competing, they do not get the kind of opportunities they may get in the US.

  • not porn ,just sexy pictures. Not Aurelia Dobre but Millo,Claudia Presecan and Corina Ungureanu.Nothing wrong with that!

  • Excuse me? Taking off your clothes means you're "whoring it out"? Disgusting attitude. It's especially ironic because gymnos MEANS nude. Grow up, read your history and learn something about the sport you claim to be defending. Gymnasts were so-called because they did the sport in the nude. Those who have such a judgmental attitude towards her are the ones with the problem. Go home and sit in judgment on yourselves. I'm no rah rah Khorkina fan but she has done nothing wrong by posing for Playboy.

  • @NYCBlonde The first thing I have read from you that I agree with. Khorkina was an adult and photos were very tastefully done. It is irrelevent to her gymnastics and rude of the commentator to be so judgmental and play to the puritanical sensibilities of the American audience. People need to get used to the fact that know they are over 16, these gymnasts are not little girls, they will have sex lifes.

  • This is the best coverage of olympic gymnastics that NBC has done in comparison to this years coverage of the gymnastics. With this coverage they showed most of the teams and quite a bit of coverage of the foreign gymnasts (Rom,Russ,China,Aus etc...). I was very disappointed that the coverage this year only showed the American gymnasts and the Chinese gymnasts. I turned the TV off in disgust after an hour of watching USA versus China.

  • yea, all the good coverage was online, but nbc removes it if it's posted on youtube.

  • Man, 2 years in a row (2004 and 08) USa have brought along someone who doesnt even end up competing (Mcool and Pezek) But I still think tht those 2 gymnasts are good

  • yeah, but peszek was injured, so it's not quite the same

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • i am confused

    1. wasnt athens 4 years ago oe in 2004...

    2. why is shawn competing isnt she like under 16 there

    3. is the olympics on every year??

    plz help

  • 1. Athens was four years ago, as the title of the video indicates.

    2. That isn't Shawn Johnson, that's Carly Patterson you're probably looking at.

    3. The summer olympics occurs every four years.

  • Whou...

The Romania Team in Athenas was AWESOME

Monica Rosu, Alexandra Eremia, Nicoleta Sofroni, Oana Ban and Silvia Struesco rock´sss

    Catalina Ponor ?

    ham...AWESOME is simple

    F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S I think is enough

  • Hi for Romania! Thanks a lot for posting it!

  • i wonder if mccool is wearing a leotard under her clothes...eventhough she wasn't going to be used.

  • She was because she was in it during the medal ceremony. Also, she was the alternate on bars.

  • My GOD Annia's vault!....

  • they are not the world champions...patterson, vise, schwikert, humphrey, and memmell are.

  • jst means USA

  • YAY GO ROMANIA....i almost cried when they won the gold..inside i cried lol....i was soo happy i went to school the next day with PRIDE

  • I LUV THE RUSSINAS WARM UPS!

  • SWEET THANK YOU!!! I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS! :). do you have mens up by chance from this station?.

  • OK although im american,I agree the russians were defintley under scored

Pavlova and Zamo deserved a more of a 9.5 instead of 9.4's

  • Too bad for the USA, but in Atlanta 96 THAT was magnificent

  • i love the US leotards, best ones yet!<33

  • too much white though. a bit more color

  • yeahh i guess thats true.

  • they're sort of like the ones from atlanta

  • i totally agree

  • No offence but svetlana khorkina is a brat!

  • No offence but svetlana khorkina is a brat!

  • Anna should of got 3rd AA. She stuck nearly all her things. She was ROBBED. Zand Nan or ateva didnt desergve it.

  • ateva???

  • wateva

  • this is the team AA lol post that in the individual AA

  • I totally agree!

  • I loved the beggining!

  • wow Romania is amazing!

  • Hatch's vault was perfection.

  • ick, I hate the U.S. leotards!

  • Well there are not the best i've ever seen, but considering we are the USA we should have awesomely designed leo's.

  • actually these are my fav. us leos. the ones in the 80's and 90's were horrible, too much red and blue. i think these were just right. the ones in beijing were OK.

  • i looove the music at the beginning, its from Love Actually - one of my fave movies :D

  • this video is so cool

  • Annia's vault was AMAZING.

  • I know so many people say that Annia's spot was a wasted seat but come on! That height! Distance! AND she sticks the landing! The one person that screwed up all night was Carly on events that she shouldn't have been on in the first place!

  • I agree with you, they should have put McCool on the UB and had someone else on the VT.

  • aw there's only 42 comments y dont ppl like gymnastics it rox well anywayz now there's 43

  • i got this odd feeling that the romanians arent going to win the team gold this year.

  • omg i was right and i possted that like 2 monthss ago before worlds.

  • sadly, the romanians have lost a lot of their depth since the last olympics. the only reason they even got the bronze was because the russian girl who touched the vault without vaulting and got a zero.

i really loved watching the romanians in past olympics, because i was in awe of how consistent they could be, especially on beam. i really hope they have a fantastic day on team finals in bejing and win a medal

  • The Romanian's have lost funding and their top coaches have retired since 2004.

2004 seemed a much happier team.

Sandra Izbasa was a star though....

  • I have a question: does the perfect ten still exists?? because they do great vaults and only get a 9,5 ???I´m confused

  • i dont think someones gotten a 10 at the olympics in years.

they changed the way they score, though. so now they have execution scores and i think start value. not sure though. most these routines would get in the 15's.

  • i think there is no such thing as a perfect 10 in the olympics anymore... these start values are only 9.8's and 9.9's at most .. i dont no how u can get a ten.. they deduct for tiny steps and everything

  • the russians leo's arent very pretty. they r kinda plain and boring. same with china. romanaia and us have cooler ones

  • I know. the russians leos look very obsolete, just like the ones they used to wear back in the old days.

  • They don't have perfect 10's more anyway, because they changed the code of points. There is now an execution score out of 10 and another score that is usually between 5 and 7, and they're added together. But the execution scores are never anywhere near 10, you're right.

  • Understand, there are trends in judging. After Nadia, 10s were more acceptable. And they handed them out a lot more frequently in the '70s & the '80s. The last 10 in the Olympics was (I think ) Lavinia Milosovice in her floor EF. After that we had no 10s--they hadn't revised the Code as such, the COP still acknowledged the ideal of the perfect 10, the judges just sort of stopped awarding them. The scores started trending down after that--fantastic exercises got at most a 9.7something.

  • the romanians are the best!!! catalina, monica, daniela, alexandra, oana!!!!!! the best!!

  • I liked catalina. omg I think I was in love with her....

  • THANK U SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!!

  • thanks for the videos

  • anyone know the music at the beginning of the video?

  • thats what i want to kno too. I know its in the movie love actually buts thats all i know

  • How is Carly Patterson the "star" of the American team? They did the same thing in 1996 with Dominique Moceanu. I hate how they pick favorites, especially when there are more solid gymnasts on the team.
