first club ever where I thought I was not going to get in everytime I went there...if you walked up to the ropes and they didnt let you in as soon as you made eye contact.................then you were'nt getting in right away...they would have all these people outside waiting like there was something going on inside...and i would go in and the place was almost empty...ha...it was a good trick though...fuckin 26th n 12th...ahhhhhhh. . good girls n there.
If anyone now in Los Angeles was part of this scene in NYC in the 90s, I'd love it if you sent me a message. Dying to talk to someone who has firsthand stories of Tunnel & Limelight and the era when Gatien's clubs ruled NYC nightlife...
@OrangeCountyGirl88 I hung at The Tunnel, Webster Hall, Knitting factory and would go see Junior spin every friday at 4am at the Twilo. I knew Lord Caruso and Angel. I met Peter Gatien one night outside the tunnel. He was watching the door security guys because he had been raided the day before. He is easy to recognize because he has only one eye. He didn't talk much but was friendly. What a wild time that was. (1996, 1997 or 1998 don't remember to clearly)
@louiedesa I hung out there in the early 90's then toward the end of the 90's. In the middle of the 90's I stopped paryting for a few years. Pretty sure that the wildest times were in 96. Lots of acid and X so I am not sure.
wHEN i WALKED IN THE TUNNEL THE FIRST TIME AT 21 AND THAT SMELL, LIGHTS, SMOKE ALL HIT ME AT ONCE I WAS HOOKED. done DEAL!!! I ROAMED UP AND DOWN STAIRS LIKE A LION IN HEAT. SHOUT OUT TO YIHIRA
TF and Coney Island ran the tunnel son!!! Those were the days! We used ta love when the Jersey and Long Island kids would show up and pop off then we would slap the shot outta them and send them home cryin!! Brooklyn stomp!!!
Must see sleazy NYC trash/pop culture tour from the early 90's. Times Square and more..... Explore all the landmarks that have dissapeared. The Urban EYE part 1,2,3 on the THYRDEYE channel. Hosted by Jerry Rio. Interviews from 90's NYC nightclubs too!
Visiting NYC for 2 weeks of training. Met up w/ a friend who lived there on Sat in between training weeks. Already "messed up" when he tells me, "we got to go to a club call the Tunnel". Being from a city where bars close 1a-2a, I was like, HELL YEAH! Next thing I know, we're inside and I was like HOLY SHIT! Definitely hallucinating, I got lost from my buddy almost immediately. BUT quickly made friends w/ a feline in the co-ed facility! An absolute GREAT experience! After, I slept 'til Mon morn!
Wow This Brings Back Memories.. 1997 thru 2001 man why did it have to shut down.. it could've lasted.. anyway glad i experienced tunnle. most people in the new generation don't know the meaning of night life. they really need education from the real clubbers.
First went there in '94. The Tunnel was the best. No attitude or bs. Everybody (boys & girls) would get high and party in the toilet. I think they even had a bar in there. Lot's of different people, great music. You could meet people there too. In NYC! The last 'club' I went to in NYC was called 'Bungalow something something' and it was fucking stupid. Pretentious rich yuppie cunts and real pricey. Shouldn't be a surprise though cause look what New York has become. Oh well. Miss ya Tunnel.
