Thank you for the compliments. I did it by myself. It was a class project. My 3rd 3D model ever. My first exercise in mapping textures and my first polygon modeling task. I spent a few hours a week for 8 weeks. It was done using 3D studio Max and I used Photoshop for the textures and bump-maps.
@SupremeManiac92 Im sure there are feathers but they take too long to render. I did this with opacity maps. I got pics of actual feathers and photoshopped 9 different layers to use and there are more than 20 plains per wing. Took 60 minutes to render 1 second.
Possible, yes... easy... uhm, not so much... I wanted to do details in mudbox... but it seem the geometry is a bit too strange... Zbrush might be able to handle it... only then the questions is, can I handle ZBrush??
Oh thats just for details... Rigging should be possible... just tricky... The angel was the 3rd model I ever built and my first experience using uv maps and textures... so Im still learning a great many things.
Oh, not to mention that the opacity maps render REALLY slow... with raytraced shadows... and without them the wings might as well be one plain... SO I would have to rethink some musculature and rethink the wings... many hours...
Surfaces. I didn't model the feathers. They are done with opacity maps. I built each layer in Photoshop out of photos of feathers and spend allot of time on different layers. The disadvantage is that you have to render with rayraced shadows, otherwise onl the top layer is lit... My tip for my method: Keep the planes flat until you have all thh layers exactly the way you like them... then group the and put a bend modifier on all of them.Cut the planes to the shape of the feathers for fast render.
The wings were done with about 19 plane with opacity maps and many other maps. I want to modify it so the shadows are accurate in the 3DS max line scanner renderer and not just in raytrace which is the case here.

How do you make realistic feathers in 3D max? Do they have plugins for it?

Do you think it would be possible to rig it?
