@360NextLevel yeah. I'm selling the phone though. It's a great phone but i just don't like the fact that it's not supported anymore and how nokia isn't gonna update maemo anymore.
I'm not sure about relying on other developers either. I'm probably getting the Nexus S by google/samsung.
I'm not trying to jump the bandwagon by getting an android but at least it will still receive updates/support for the software.
Also, care to tell me anything you know about Meego and how it relates to the n900?
@redpitbull01 Im on the same boat as yourself however I am looking at windows phone as my next handset.
Meego is just a newer OS which does look really nice. Again nokia wont be supporting or releasing it for n900, but the n900 community will support it and make it available.
@1700tt Install nokia pc suite and the data cable driver and once it is installed you don't need to open up nokia pc suite to access your files you can simply go into My Computer and see your phone listed once it is connected and it should be straight forward from there, just drag an drop or whatever you would like to do

@eljaytomas123 well thats something :) if you want to have a little mobile computer better than the iphone and the ipad then i would run with the N900 the N8 isnt even close believe me...you can to everything with the N900 no other phone can be compared to it at the moment...if you are not only looking for nokia, the blackberry bold 9780 is also a very good full qwerty keyboard smartphone. its a working machine and really gets its(your) stuff done right...theyre both completely different...

@360NextLevel well... this is how it went, i tried reflashing the emmc first, but that was a process that included flashing the firmware... so i did that... after i did it it showed me that no images were found (phone boots and stuuf but no pictures or anything just colored squares) after that i hooked it up to my pc and used the ovi tool to get the software back (and it was different, new starting aps etc.) so i guess it worked, but... no led.. and it's in the box state now... what's a handset?
@IcarezDub Which guide did you follow? You flash the emmc first then the handset. You can of course just flash the handset on its own but I would recommend doing both.
Follow this guide: wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware
Also make sure you have backed up your handset as when you flash the emmc, everything will be gone. It will be as new.
@360NextLevel uhmm i guess with handset you mean firmware? i did everything on that page, i flashed the firmware, and then i flashed the emmc, it all went well this time and no errors... it's in out of the box mode... but no led is blinking... the white deviceon led is still missing :(

As for the Led issue, that is really strange that your handset is having that problem. It could be anything but I doubt its software related. But if you did the flashing correctly and completely erased everything then it must be hardware, prob be very minor to fix.
@360NextLevel thnx, well i have one theory though.. in your webpage theres 1 other flash option to flash only the kernal of the firmware... however i guess it's also done when flashing the complete firmware.. it's supposed to happen right after you flashed the emmc, only the command is not a windows command but a linux sudo command, so i couldn't do it on my pc
@IcarezDub thats right the kernel gets flashed when you re-install the firmware or you can re-flash just the kernel only or change it for a modified version to allow overclocking etc.
Can be done via pc as well, and for the overclocking version you can do that on the n900 via an app install

@afeefar you must go by the nokia service and leave your phone there for repair, if it still has warranty and they can't solve it, it means you'll get a new one (atleast here where i am), it could be they have a pin adapter they are gonna plug in to reflash the entire thing... even the things we can't flash (it works with 9 or so connections under your battery) if it works, it works :) and they probably clean the glass very nice for you, good luck :)
@IcarezDub : you can do one thing. Switch off your phone, remove your battery and then plug in the charger. THE LED will blink for once. Now insert your battery and switch on the phone.

@saalimparkar I get asked this a lot, its called the SMS widget (something like that), im not sure if its still around but i dont use it anymore and found it pointless with the figures it showed and provided as it wasnt customisable then (not sure if its still the same)
@tareqhardan90 you need to download all 4 images for the 4 desktops, if ur on a pc you could prob find a site that has them in a zip file other than that if u know an easier or quicker way then please do share :)

and about this topic maybe i got it wrong, coz in th video it seems like you saved the whole thing as a SET, then you chose the whole thing as an image set,,, and that i cant do,
@tareqhardan90 lol ok well as long as you can work it out. Do it on ur pc/mac you may find it easier, just download the image files and the desktop file, connect your n900 via usb then drag and drop all the files you downloaded into the Images folder, disconnect your n900 and it should be there when you go to change the wallpapers.
The MORE icon was in the old (earlier) firmware revision. It has now been removed.
I was going to get an N900 but my brother wasnt letting me because he already had one...I AM SO PISSED.....i ended up getting a Samsung Vibrant instead -_-
@RestLessIP You can use msn as well as some other IM accounts you may have. You need to download 1 of the plugins that has a combo of these. Then just hit your status menu and tap on Availability and you can add your msn/yahoo/icq etc login details there then just go to your sms conversations and chat to your contacts through there.
@360NextLevel I've installed and found out how to use Pecan, but it doesn't connect ? It keeps flicking at the green circle, and the grey/white one with a cross in it...
@RestLessIP check your login details are correct, also try rebooting the handset. I have Pidgin Extra Protocols and Pidgin Protocols plugin for Conversations and Contacts installed which works fine for me.
@M4TM777 Meego will be good too, its just ashame that nokia doesnt do much in the software side or support certain devices for long when sales dont go their way.

@MrHairyNutz you can create and place folders anywhere you like as the media player will auto detect mp3, movie files etc. Only downside is that it also picks up any other sound files from games or apps and adds them to your playlist that is annoying. So far ive been unable to find an app where you can select and assign a folder of your choosing.

I want a folder to hold all my metallica songs (300 songs), i got tons of viral vids and songs and i'd sure like to search folders with the videos/songs that im looking for.
@MrHairyNutz create a folder on your n900, call it music or anything u like, place all your mp3s in there and now go into the media player it will detect all your mp3s as well as any other audio files it finds (excluding default ringtones).
You could if you like also place your video files into that folder or you can create a seperate folder for it or place it into the default videos folder.

@yabany make sure u download all the images for a set and all are in same directory, follow the video and use the default paths like i have and see how that works.
@RetroZombieee try searching online, should be plenty of places. You could even have a look on ebay, just make sure you dont order the fake chinese copy as that has symbian on them.

@k43ketak you don't need to as they don't come with a lock, not that ive heard of anyway. Just try your other sim. You could also try re-branding (change the product code) then re-flash it with the global fw and see if that helps but to be honest first ive heard someone ask me that.

@luke14free5 All the apps featured on my channel, are taken from Extras-Testing or Extras-Devel repository. As always be careful when using app from here.

@360NextLevel That is a great video, but I have a concern that I am not sure who to ask. Had my Batphone/N900 for almost a year now, but last week it stopped recognizing T-Mobiles sim card. I went to T-mobile and swapped sim cards twice, no good. The sim card works fine in a temp phone. the last thing I did was downloaded some themes and Youtube videos in Media box. I got rid of the themes and even restored settings going back to June. I heard Flashing the phone does nothing. Any suggestions?
@pflet87413 That is the 1st time ive ever heard of something like that happening, very strange. I don't think flashing would fix it but then again there is no harm in giving it a last try, it only takes a cple mins to do. Only other thing is I would suggest checking on the maemo forums or alternatively contact nokia and return it to get it fixed, warranty is 2 years.
Please don't tell people to enable extras-testing or extras-devel without warning people of the consequences. extras-testing is, as the name implies, for packages that need testing. Similarly, extras-devel is for packages that are currently under development and probably untested. If you enable either of them, be prepared to submit bug reports, and also be aware that those unfinished programs could break your system and require reflashing.
@StAlKeRsification even better iphone has no real multitasking!!!! it freezes apps and puts them in background there are just some exceptions like music player :D so fail

iphone has 1ghz arm 8 cortex clocked down to 800 mhz and a better graphics chip, nokia has older version of the chip and cpu... cpu is running at 600 mhz,which the same as the 3gs. nokia doesn't as have many apps iphone does. I'm not an apple fanboy but iphone wins here. nokia n900 is pretty good though it's not like its bad.

The N900 is nothing but a big brick for self defence and nothing more then that. Buying Nokia's N900 over Apple's iPhone 4 would be a mistake. Touch screen sucks, user interface is so messed and there are less options then the earlier Nokia phones, for instance exporting contacts from phone to SIM is not supported.
Secondly, iPhone 4 has Retina display which I personally think is way crispier and better then N900s. iPhone 4 provides awesome entertainment unlike the N900. I've used both.
@shadyjd15 N900 is a powerful tool witch has a minimum set of programs in it out of the box. You choose from hundreds of free programs the ones that you need. It's an exiting platform. It even has HDR imaging!
If you need a mobile eMail and a YouTube browser then yes, iP4 is the right PHONE for you.
N900 is not just a PHONE, it's full Maemo LINUX computer witch can run almost anything that a desktop Linux can run. N900 is definitely not a basic consumer product, like iPhone is.
@macojeda As always, Nokia N8 will have the same GUI and features like the earlier phones. What matter the most is the Graphical user interface and Nokia has failed in making a user friendly GUI. I hope N8 puts a smile on your face.
@shadyjd15 really. i'm assuming you had one? everyone else loves the phone. i'd get an iphone 4 but they retail for nearly a grand and i have t-mobile. the n900 is the best phone i've ever seen. it was either n900 the iphone or the blackberry 98oo because im not a fan of android.
@VinnyLT9000 I had the iPhone 4 but switched to N900 just to check what it was like and I was disappointed. I think a phone should look and feel like a phone. iPhone 4 has way more features then the N900 yet it's slim and sleek. N900 is HUGE and I don't understand the point behind releasing an unfinished phone.

@candynandy this is a very straight forward app and easy to follow if you watch the video. just create a password and a network name then enable it and now you can use the handset as a wifi hotspot.
@360NextLevel So I am thinking very seriously between two phones. iPhone4 or the n900. My biggest question is will the n900 sync well with my Macbook? I love apple products, and really want my phone to transfer photos well and music too. But the touch screen iphone concerns me since I have big fingers and the qwerty keyboard on the n900 looks really nice. What do you think of n900-Macbook connectivity?
My last experience with this was terrible; my blackberry didn't connect well to the Macbook
@torque122 its all down to personal choice. I don't see why it shouldn't work with your mac. Ive connected it to a macbook pro laptop a cple of times an its been fine but that only in mass storage mode.
@torque122 In all honesty at first I used to but now I have doubts. If you are an owner then you'll already know yourself the ins and outs of owning 1 of these compared to an iphone 4, then the rest is your own opinion/choice really of which you think is better.

the n900 is the godfather of all phones
but i do have a problem and i hop somebody reads this and knows the answer...
i used the led pattern editor like in this movie to adjust 1 pattern (deviceon)
and now the led doesn't blink anymore...
all the others do... charging, low battery, incoming etc... but the continues light from deviceon never came back...
i tried updating to newest firmware, remove the app, restore default patterns but it just doesnt go on anymore...
pls help me?

@tareqhardan90 you need to download all 4 images for the 4 desktops, if ur on a pc you could prob find a site that has them in a zip file other than that if u know an easier or quicker way then please do share :)

You need to download the desktop file then the 4 images, save them all in the same folder, place them like I have in Images folder. simple

@tareqhardan90 lol ok well as long as you can work it out. Do it on ur pc/mac you may find it easier, just download the image files and the desktop file, connect your n900 via usb then drag and drop all the files you downloaded into the Images folder, disconnect your n900 and it should be there when you go to change the wallpapers.
The MORE icon was in the old (earlier) firmware revision. It has now been removed.

@RestLessIP You can use msn as well as some other IM accounts you may have. You need to download 1 of the plugins that has a combo of these. Then just hit your status menu and tap on Availability and you can add your msn/yahoo/icq etc login details there then just go to your sms conversations and chat to your contacts through there.

@RestLessIP check your login details are correct, also try rebooting the handset. I have Pidgin Extra Protocols and Pidgin Protocols plugin for Conversations and Contacts installed which works fine for me.

@MrHairyNutz you can create and place folders anywhere you like as the media player will auto detect mp3, movie files etc. Only downside is that it also picks up any other sound files from games or apps and adds them to your playlist that is annoying. So far ive been unable to find an app where you can select and assign a folder of your choosing.

@MrHairyNutz create a folder on your n900, call it music or anything u like, place all your mp3s in there and now go into the media player it will detect all your mp3s as well as any other audio files it finds (excluding default ringtones).
You could if you like also place your video files into that folder or you can create a seperate folder for it or place it into the default videos folder.

@k43ketak you don't need to as they don't come with a lock, not that ive heard of anyway. Just try your other sim. You could also try re-branding (change the product code) then re-flash it with the global fw and see if that helps but to be honest first ive heard someone ask me that.

The name of it at the time I was using it was SMS widget, something like that. I don't use it anymore.

@360NextLevel That is a great video, but I have a concern that I am not sure who to ask. Had my Batphone/N900 for almost a year now, but last week it stopped recognizing T-Mobiles sim card. I went to T-mobile and swapped sim cards twice, no good. The sim card works fine in a temp phone. the last thing I did was downloaded some themes and Youtube videos in Media box. I got rid of the themes and even restored settings going back to June. I heard Flashing the phone does nothing. Any suggestions?

@pflet87413 That is the 1st time ive ever heard of something like that happening, very strange. I don't think flashing would fix it but then again there is no harm in giving it a last try, it only takes a cple mins to do. Only other thing is I would suggest checking on the maemo forums or alternatively contact nokia and return it to get it fixed, warranty is 2 years.

Resistive Touch....wish it's Multi-Capacitive touch.

iphone has 1ghz arm 8 cortex clocked down to 800 mhz and a better graphics chip, nokia has older version of the chip and cpu... cpu is running at 600 mhz,which the same as the 3gs. nokia doesn't as have many apps iphone does. I'm not an apple fanboy but iphone wins here. nokia n900 is pretty good though it's not like its bad.

The N900 is nothing but a big brick for self defence and nothing more then that. Buying Nokia's N900 over Apple's iPhone 4 would be a mistake. Touch screen sucks, user interface is so messed and there are less options then the earlier Nokia phones, for instance exporting contacts from phone to SIM is not supported.
Secondly, iPhone 4 has Retina display which I personally think is way crispier and better then N900s. iPhone 4 provides awesome entertainment unlike the N900. I've used both.

@shadyjd15 N900 is a powerful tool witch has a minimum set of programs in it out of the box. You choose from hundreds of free programs the ones that you need. It's an exiting platform. It even has HDR imaging!
If you need a mobile eMail and a YouTube browser then yes, iP4 is the right PHONE for you.
N900 is not just a PHONE, it's full Maemo LINUX computer witch can run almost anything that a desktop Linux can run. N900 is definitely not a basic consumer product, like iPhone is.

I think a phone should look and feel like a phone. iPhone 4 has way more features then the N900 yet it's slim and sleek. N900 is HUGE and I don't understand the point behind releasing an unfinished phone.

I had an n95 but it fell in water :( so i'm looking to get a new phone.. but the iphone 4 is stupidly priced and i'm not rich. the n900 looks like a good alternative. i don't need a whole lot of features.. just internet and email on the go and a phone to call my family and friends.

@candynandy this is a very straight forward app and easy to follow if you watch the video. just create a password and a network name then enable it and now you can use the handset as a wifi hotspot.

@360NextLevel So I am thinking very seriously between two phones. iPhone4 or the n900. My biggest question is will the n900 sync well with my Macbook? I love apple products, and really want my phone to transfer photos well and music too. But the touch screen iphone concerns me since I have big fingers and the qwerty keyboard on the n900 looks really nice. What do you think of n900-Macbook connectivity?
My last experience with this was terrible; my blackberry didn't connect well to the Macbook
