Well being Irish, like being any race is a sense of unity. I unity like you said, you are just born into. It's hard to explain it to a person like you, and don't act offended, you know what type of person you are. Never have I actually met a genuine Irish person that doesn't understand, hmn. So I find it a bit... useless to explain it.
By the way. The word I think you were after is "decent" and not "descent" which has a completely different meaning and makes no sense in the context of your comment.

Well let me ask you something. Why did you include the words "Munster" and "Atheist" in your user name? Is it because you feel a sense of pride for being from Munster? Or do you feel pride in saying that you do not believe in God? I would like to hear you explain that before you try and comprehend the pride of nationalities.
@MunsterAtheist so many retards. The only "pride" - if you can call it that - I have about being Irish is that since everyone loves us so we can get away with murder.
the irish nation should be francophone. there is no place for irish or english. this is a wish shared by the thousands of irish of french descent. we are the elite of this country but were sold out by the french!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well my mother was born in belfast then moved to Brum england, her mothers family are named is de lager which i'm told is french. Have you ever heard of it ? i think it's pronounced by the irish as ' dee largee'.
Bhain sé gaire asam ach i gcónaí bíonn náire orm nuair a chloisim réadóirí grinne na hÉireann ag cur "fuck" amach ró-mhinic. Tá Gaeilge ag Dara Ó Briain agus ní bhíonn an drochchaint céanna aige i mBéarla, is léir go dtéann easpa na teangan i bhfeidhm go mór orainn agus sinne os comhair an domhain mór.

...But no, were stuck with you, you ignorant little shit, you are still alive spouting your bullshit ,while families across your nation are mouring men who, although they were english and brainwashed, had a future and stood up for what they believed in (no matter how ridiculos), who GAVE THEIR LIVES, instead of being little pussies and talking shit online like you....
And to think, under different circumstances you could have been one of those 9 brits k.i.a recently. How much better the world would probably be and at least there would be a decent brit, a worthwhile humanbeing, no doubt someone with friends and at least an average iq alive instead of you.....
why is that exactly? because we are a hell of a lot more intelligent and funnier than you? or is it because we dont put random comments out against a whole type of people for no reason whatsoever just to try and look hard?
Yeah, how unlucky are we that we now speak a language that Australians, Americans, Canadians, English and millions of others speak (many of them as a second language).
I'd much rather be a patriot who has to learn another fucking language to get a job anywhere else.
It's just a method of communication man, if it works, it works.
@gavbag1234 Totaly agree with you. How disasterous it would be for mankind to only speak one language! Less languages is better. Fucking waste of time trying to teach Irish to kids. Same as religion. Modern times people, forget the past. Time to move on!
@Irishfianna I was reading about this topic and apparently the Irish language has declined alarmingly over the last 50 years, long after Britain left, so it's done no better under a friendly regime than a hostile one
@MrMoel1 very right MrMoel, but from what i understand thats because irish saw something of a revival at the turn of the century, so probably spiked then and the decline is the fallout from that. the english influence on its decline began a few centuries before that with plantations and reformation.
@MrMoel1 because nobody know how to speak it anymore? irishfianna is right. the only place that speaks irish is the gaeltachts and well they are small and we are forced in schools, therefore sparking people to dislike it. reading over the topic wont help you understand if your not irish in my opinion...

Irish is fucked UP! How you people learn how to write it, I have no idea (what the fuck does "fheiceáil" mean????). Yeah, and to think that the Americans don't even have their own language except that of the English. Sometimes I wonder how disturbing it must be to be speaking a language that isn't even yours!!!
cén fáth a bhfuil sibh ag caint gaielge? ní beidh fhios ag gach duine céard atá sibh ag rá.tommy tiernan is my neighbour so i met him a few times, and i met des bishop last week, and i prefer des as a person, but tommy is funnier.

Your ancestral Language is your own even if it will take you a year to master it. Your Language is inside you, in your blood, in your IDN. Finally, the reward comes by on the day you are able to look at your invader straight in the eye and tell him/her in Irish, whatever you are, dog or god, "The Language of my homeland is Irish!"
"Your ancestral Language is your own even if it will take you a year to master it"
17 years in the irish education system and all I actually managed was a 15 minute conversation about my family and past times! lol. I will personally give a big shiney maedal to any person that manages to master irish in year!!!!!!! NOT POSSIBLE!!
My sis met Des Bishop who spent 3 months in the Gaeltacht. He can't write Irish, but he can speak it fluently, and he can use the Irish tenses properly even though he doesn't know anything about the aimsir fhaistineach etc.
I started learning a Celtic Language one and a half yrs ago. Breizhoneg (Briton). Now I can easily and quickly translate my favourite articles from novels or a newspaper. 'Ar Marh Dall' (The Blind Horse) is a compilation of tales, poems and (Briton) Breizhonek literature. Now I can READ, WRITE, smile, laugh, SPEAK, enjoy and discover the Celtic world. A recent novel is 'Dre Prenestr'(Through the Window) by Goulc'han Kervella. My own ancestral Language is Luo (of Lake Victoria and Nile) shores.
Language is learned not genetic. And the reward doesn't come from defining yourself against someone else, particularly "the invader" whoever the living embodiment of the same might be in 2008.
As for taking a year to master, it takes longer, to "master" (again whatever that means, do you mean James Joyce or Famous Seámus mastery for example? That's a distant goal even for native English speakers like myself) a relatively simple language like English, never mind Irish... ps what's IDN?
An gceapann tú i ndáiríre go bhfuil ceangail idir cáil agus tallann? Ar aon nós, cad faoi Dave Allen, Dylan Moran, Dara Ó Briain srl? Tá i bhfad níos mó clú agus cáil (agus tallan) ag baint leo.
Tá an-tallann ag an triúir acu sin chomh maith ach ceapaim fhéin go bhfuil rud éiginn speisialta ag Tommy nach bhfuil acu.Thaitnionn Dylan Moran agus Dara O'Briain go mór liom ach má chuir aon duine cheist orm cé a bhfuil mar an greannadóir is fearr in Éirinn ag an ám seo bheidh Tommy T mar mo fregra!Ach tá do thuairim féin agat agus is feidir liom a fheiceáil cén fath nach thaitnóidh sé le dhaoine.Anois is aris faighim saghas buartha go bhfuil sé ag dul sios droch bóthar le roinnt dá material!
Bhuel, mar a dúirt tú, tá mo thuairim féin agam agus níl mé chun é a athrú go luath! Tá greann an-phearsanta, níl sé loighciúil, agus tá sé difriúil ó dhuine go duine.
I have a funny channel in the making also!

Only an Irish person knows why they are glad to be Irish. If you aren't Irish you will never be able to understand what is, to be Irish.

You're all talkng shit. Tell me, what is it, to be Irish?
MunsterAtheist 2 years ago
Why? You don't actually care, do you?
You must not like the feeling of not being capable of understanding something.
ceara619rocks 2 years ago
If I didn't care I wouldn't be asking. I was born and raised and I'm still living in Ireland.
Saying that you're proud of being Irish is like saying you're proud of being tall, or proud of having a double-jointed thumb.
Pride should be reserved for something that you've achieved, like helping the poor or performing well at school.
Being Irish is not an achievement. It is an accident of geography at birth. Hence, I feel no more pride at being Irish than I do at being human.
MunsterAtheist 2 years ago

It is possible! Just head to the gaeltacht! We all know that Irish syllabus in school is shit!

GrainneMhaol 3 years ago
Tá an-tallann ag an triúir acu sin chomh maith ach ceapaim fhéin go bhfuil rud éiginn speisialta ag Tommy nach bhfuil acu.Thaitnionn Dylan Moran agus Dara O'Briain go mór liom ach má chuir aon duine cheist orm cé a bhfuil mar an greannadóir is fearr in Éirinn ag an ám seo bheidh Tommy T mar mo fregra!Ach tá do thuairim féin agat agus is feidir liom a fheiceáil cén fath nach thaitnóidh sé le dhaoine.Anois is aris faighim saghas buartha go bhfuil sé ag dul sios droch bóthar le roinnt dá material!

Bhuel, mar a dúirt tú, tá mo thuairim féin agam agus níl mé chun é a athrú go luath! Tá greann an-phearsanta, níl sé loighciúil, agus tá sé difriúil ó dhuine go duine.
