The words "Sovtek and Sunn cab" made my right foot curl and gave me and leg cramp. All while I was smiling.. What better brands could you have together, Lord?
How did you get that much gain out of it? I was just playing a MIG 50 today and I couldn't even get it to break up until I got the volume around 3 o' clock and that was using the high input!
@johnnybmagic the mig 50 and mig 100 are pretty different gain wise. A mig 50 is more like a bassman with less gain, mig 60 is comparable to a JMP as far as gain, and then the Mig 100 is like a JCM 800. Thats what I have heard anyways I only have a Mig 60 but I might get a Mig 100 soon :D
@scaryfried Depends on how you have your EQ set. If you scoop the mids down, jack up the bass and keep the treb around 5 you can get a very nice dark and thick tone out of them. The EQ is pretty versatile. Plus camcorders don't always pick up bass tones as well. Also keep in mind it is a JCM800 clone, it is not a mesa boogie.
@tbirdpunk thanks for the reply! after i said that i bought a mig 100 - absolutely in love with it. exactly the tone i'm looking for in the low input.
@scaryfried If I'm not mistaken the Low input is more Fender Bassman sound and the high input is more JCM800 sound. I prefer the High input haha. The best part of that amp is when you find your magic tonez. Took me a while at first, when I found it I FOUND IT! My eq knobs haven't been moved in 10 years haha.
Though I cannot speak for the guy who owns the amp as it doesn't specify.. from my experience with the Mig 100, that is all gain from the head. The Les Paul's fat humbucking tone doesn't hurt either ya know haha.
yes two channels but not footswitchable, and not phisically independant, like the low gain channel lets the signal go through two 12ax7 tubes, and the high gain channel let's it go through three tubes.
This is my favourite amp, it's a Marshall JCM800-2203copy with 6L6's output tubes instead of marshall's El84, very good amp, mine has green light instead of red, the amp is by nature pretty noisy how can you get it to sound that quite? did you use any software noise removal? or do you have a special trick for that?
No tricks. Just mid eq with full volume gain. Usually very quiet amp, due to lower gain.Only 3x12ax7's. Hence the tube screamer for boost. The humbucker always helps to keep noise down ofcourse. The Red bezel is replacement,as the original was lost.I changed all the knobs , switches and jacks as well.
I have the mig 50 and i run that with an SG with emg 81s and 85's. For distortion, I use a marshall jackhammer cranked to capacity...live, it's rich and punchy as hell...great choice...btw, nice riffage bro!
I want a JCM800 Superlead Its the same amp Zakk Wylde plays through. I cant afford one though. I was looking at the Line 6 Spider Valve HD100 watt Tube amp not a bad amp for the buck either. But I really want a marshall. How much does one of these Sovteks go for Ive never heard of them
haha no no no.. i WISH! he or she asked about sovteks not 800's. no the cheapest 800 ive ever seen was $700 and it was like an 88 model in well used condition. (it was beat the hell up) but sovteks are anywhere from 350-500 maaaaybe 600 on a bad day.
I was gonna say. Dude start sending me like want adds from your news paper or some shit. Because If I could find a JCM800 for 400 id be happier than a pig in shit. cheapest JCM800 ive seen was like $600 but it needed to be retubed and shit. A descent 800 in my area goes for like 900 to $1000 my buddy got his JCM800 its a 88 I think somewhere in that area he got his for like $750 I think he like stole it lol
I already have a Line 6 Spider 12 inch combo 75 watt. I mean I like it but its not what I need to play out with. I was looking at the Peavey Vypr 120 Watt Head. Its affordable to me. What I really want is a Marshall JCM800 Super Lead like what my buddy plays on. ANd considering I will be covering alot of Ozzy its perfect. Because thats what Zakk Wylde Plays on. Plexis shit I wish I could afford one like a 68 50 or 100 watt. even the reissues are pricey.
hmm, I'd just save up man, get a marshall plexi or a mesa boogie, it's much more satisfying in the long run, stacks are a pain in the ass though, if I were you i'd go for something like the fender supersonic, best amp i've ever owned, loud as you'll ever need, and not much bigger than your line 6.
I dont really like the Fender Amps. The only Fender Amp I like is the one my Buddy has its rare and old. His dad gave it to him. Its a Fender Bandmaster. 1957
Look into the Peavey Windsor head. They sell in the 200-400 range and can cover anywhere from a plexi to jcm 800 tone. You just have to tweak with them for a while to find your sweet spot. If I'm not mistaken, they area two channel amp. Keep in mind it would probably sound best with a peavey cab. Something to think about.
Im actually interested in the Marshall Haze 40 Watt Combo all tube. 3 Channels. And a output in the back so I could run it through a 2x12 cab or 4x12 cabinet.
i had a windsor ans matching 4x12 and it took me awhile but once i found the tone i was fine with it i just wish it had more gain without using pedals so sadly i got rid of it for a laney protube and a marshall jcm 800 cab
I've heard good things about the Laney's, though some of them can be very pricey haha. A bit of tube tweaking probably could have squeeked ya a bit more gain out of the Peavey, but sometimes swapping tubes can make them sound even worse haha. As long as you got the tone you want, thats all anyone can ask for right haha.

funkster1976 1 year ago
Also,
MIG 100 Head: around US$300 second hand
Sunn quad: around US$300 second hand
TS-7: Around US$40..
All and all, pretty cheap set-up..Good sound..
Cheers

Just to clarify the setting for those of you interested....
Sovtek Mig 100: High gain input, Max preamp vol, Master at 12'O clock. EQ all 12'O clock.
Ibanez TS-7 Tube Screamer: Drive 0. Tone 0, Volume 9'O clock.
Gibson Les paul: Humbucker, full tone and volume.
Picking: Very hard.
Video Recording: Fuji digital camera.Tends to sound tinny. Much fatter in real life.
Cheers

@tbirdpunk too true! the high input is great as well, just not necessarily for the style my band plays. great amp.

It's hard to find. They're extremely rare. Cause they're made from scrap metal from airplanes in the Cold War.
