  • This is just engenious. I hope this guy applies his engineering skills to something that will build a great company like Michael Gates.

  • it took three years to build the transmission, this is easy to build.... Say that.. you're kidding

  • nice

  • cool transmission design.

  • That's rather brilliant. I love it. Great bit of engineering, thumbs up.

  • What's the top speed??

  • hi how much did the project cost? was it cheep or expensive :) thx

  • Id put the traini in the back....

  • @TheRtard321 the transmission and drive sprockets were in the front on the sherman as well.

  • @nawoj44 Flaw IMO. Depends on the pont of view and/or the point of fire at the tank whether its better or worse.

  • lol this guy must have tons of time on his hands

  • With the engine is connected

    to the drive chain!

With the drive chain is connected

to the counter rotating drive shafts,

With the counter rotating drive shafts connected

    to the pulleys.

  • this guys is my hero lol

  • @TheDevilMr666 Im with ya man.

  • @ak47bobbarke yeah dude afet watching this it makes me want to build a scale M1A2

  • One question, did you use lawnmower crank shafts for the axles??? Because I see what looks like a flywheel attachment where the wheels go and a attachment slot on the farthest twards the middle!

  • @piloty5 well i was thinking of usuing convaterbelt like he used for his tracks because my transmission drive wheels will be around the size of his sprokects or a little smaller

  • @gizmo4t Hi, i am building a full size t-34 tank with a 2-3 litre 6 cylinder engine and i am using the transmission u show here.... i am wondering if i should make the transmission belts out of what u use here or something alot stronger..... any ideas?

  • @ag1997may if i was you i would use somthing alot stronger since yours is full size. but im no expert like the guy in the vid.

  • Comment removed

  • Hay! will you be willing to send me the molds or is there a site were i can buy them?

  • nice shorts mate.

  • if he cold fast forword thrue little parts of the disesembly why coldent he fast forword thrue the whole disembly

  • how much did it cost you to build the Mini Sherman Tank ?

  • That's cheap and clever way to make steering.

  • This is quite ingenious however take a look at my 1200 Prairie Bobcats steering you might like that system for this it is very simple too but similar not as many components .

  • You are too smart for us man... I mean.. Thats something for like someone who has a carrer on mechanic engineer or something like that...

  • I... could never have done that. :<

  • You're very professional Sir !

    Thanks for sharing the idea.

  • That's an amazing project... I've always liked the Sherman tank...Very cool...And you sure recreated it in a wonderful and stately fashion...

  • I absolutley love this video, thank you so much for posting this. Im planning on building a wooden pzII this summer and this video is absolutely perfect

  • How much would it cost all together. Thanks

  • wow realy briliant ! indeed it is simple :] btw man id this tank durable ? it seems like the axis is not so strong, it looks like it could bend if the tank would be on the tuff terain (a lot of bumps, hills andpits)

  • Does this require 2 engines or one?

Like one engine to spin on direction, and one to spin another?

  • @poopersnoops just one...same thing w bulldozers, and real tanks...all just one, the transmission is key to this. You basically split the torque produced by the motor in half, sending each side half the torque, then you independently select forward or reverse for each side, this is allowed since you've already split the torque using gears, belts etc

  • WOOOOOWW... I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING HOW TRANNYS LIKE THIS WORK EVERYDAY FOR OVER A WEEK IN ALL MY FREE TIME AND YOU JUST TAUGHT ME!!! that is soooo much more simple than i have been seeing on google and didnt understand it until now! thank you sooo much! now ima put tracks on my lawn mower!

  • hey are you interresed in selling a copy of the plans? in 1 year is my sience & tecnology fair and i would like to make one of these ... what do you say?

  • Far simpler then I would have tried. With Old car diff's and disc brakes.

  • You sir, have helped me immensely, i have been trying to build a 1/6th r/c tank using a gas engine, but i have not been able to find any transmissions that require no machining of parts. until now. thank you very much.

  • very nice, ....

  • I build scale models mainly 1/35 scale, wish I had the room and money

    to build that big!

    2.5 what a cool scale.

  • Can you get part 5 back up?

    Thanks!

  • its a little jerky but i still jizzed my pants

  • That is so wicked. I really enjoyed that. very clever. Now i have to back over a few of the videos again to get some more ideas. Please let me know when you get 5 up. I am looking forward to it. Thank you very much for putting up these videos.

  • can u build one for me (how much)

  • You sir, are genious. Truly amazing.

  • Eine Frage. Wo bekommt man die Ketten her? Ich will mir auch einen Ein-Mann Panzer bauen und brauch nur noch die Ketten. ^^

  • do you think i can use that tansmission on a panther tank that scale or do you think i should use to tiger tank trasnsmisson?

  • Genius that drive train truly like the manner you solve your probs.Love the handmade parts that's gives the most honor to you....... iám right ?¿ ;)

  • Very nice. Simply very nice work. I am simply ... astonished. This is one of the rare case that make me really happy youtube website exists.

    Greetings from Italy.

  • cool, the transmission reminded me a bit of how cvt works in scooters with the belts but you added some more stuff that make it unique, its a 10/10 rated project from me, i thought your videos were way interesting, thank you for spending the time to show us, i will be working on an amphibious project myself, cheers again m8.

  • fantastic transmission :)

  • Nicely done,simple but effective 10/10

  • AHH BUGGY! 2:22

  • congratulations! huge design. sometime i will try this in my own vehicle.

  • Love God.... How many hours were needed to build the entire model? Alone or with assistants?

  • G** LORD.

  • This is very informative. Thank you. Are you an inventor?

  • I's straight as an arrow, but I feel like tongue-kissing with this old bastard, I'm so thrilled with his transmission design!!!!!!!!

Genius is simple, not complicated, and this is genius!!!

  • ur design is good I plan to build one just like it or the firefly variant. But say I wanted a bit more power. If I wanted to use it and I have the money would you say a 100hp aircraft engne be suitable or is that too much

  • that is so simple. I realy can't get over how amazing it is. It is very very clever.

  • Nice design ----- How do you keep the metal teeth lubricated and not wearing out---How about electric brakes to stop the drive sprockets with switches on the levers however your build is very cost effective .

I was also wondering about using a complete drive assembly from a Honda civic from a wrecker. As long as its automatic you could lock up each side of the drive shafts individually with electric brakes .Just thinking out loud .

  • DO u have the plans?

  • he probably made them during the war

  • is part 5 up now cuz i still cant find it.

  • at first i didnt fully understand the trans just by looking at it....then the animation came on and I totally understood it..thank you, keep up the good work

  • that is slick very nicely done. love that tank

  • I love the fact that i can see your enjoying the hell out of your tank;)

    great job man

  • waw ............. formidable

  • sherman is Gay

  • you are a genius

  • excellent joB!!

  • a man in short shorts.. YUCK

  • Very very VERY nice job sir!

  • Hey thats neat. I like how you used a folded seat strap for the belt. The work you put into the whole tank in its entirety is excellent.

  • aswomehoh dou build the metal

  • troppo forte sei un genio !!!

  • Good job !

  • lol how was he able to unscrew the screws on the bullnose without a battery in the drill? O.o XD

  • FWD?

  • Instead of buying an expensive gear reduction system, I decided to put a 2 in sprocket on the engine and an 8in sprocket on the transmission end giving me a 4 to 1 reduction system. You can do this to any scale as long as you have enough room, you can even buy a gear reduction system and do the other reduction system if you want alot of horse power.

  • cant you just get two motors and make one control one side? i think that would be easier... but, thats just me =D

  • @Monkeykid5228 if you did that you would have to get the two motors to spin exactly the same speed or the tank would not drive straight. it would be very hard to get the motors to go the same exact rpm at different speeds.

  • Why not just use a snowmoblie belt why did you need to make belts?

  • presented very well + easy to follow good job .....thank you

  • GREAT .....you have saved me alot of time ....the idea is built solid and easy to reproduce...THANKS

  • Geniusly Brilliant !!!!

  • Brilliant!

  • Excellent. I have been trying to figure out a good method for making a drive system for a little tracked ATV. This seems to fit the bill nicely. Thanks.

  • snowmoblie clutchs work good

  • Not sure why he used homemade belts rather than snowmoblie belts ?

  • awesome work, the transmission setup is beautifully simple and effective!

  • you are a mechanical genius.......I wonder how many hours went into this project.

  • started building one, would it be quiter if you replaced that handmade gear with a straight cut setup?

  • Fan fuing tastic

  • that is a genius design. great work

  • I loved this series and your beautifull M4 replica.Very educational as well.Put a 20mm cannon in it..I know,i know,it's not for warfare.

  • Good tank.

  • Awesome job !! you made things so simple mate! great video !

  • can i see the engine?

  • Watch Part 3.

  • do you use two motors or just one

    because i couldnt catch that

  • Comment removed

  • nice shorts "mate"

  • noob

  • Hi, where is the part 5?

  • I live in Brazil, congratulations, very good!!!

  • Is not that much but I can tell you that you're a genius. thank for showing your toy

  • ive been toying with the idea of making a small tracked vehicle but didnt want to go with hydrualics for transmision (expense and complexity) your system is brilliant! t this is what youtube was made for! thank you sir!

  • My old 1967 Snowbird 262 snowblower has that type of belt transmission configuration on it to drive forward and reverse. Simple yet effective. Great job!

  • cool man in total how long did it take you to build the whole tank?

  • absolute genius!!!

there should be a prize or something for awesome people

    youd win by far!

  • I agree! Great design!

  • the best genious!!!

  • dude, that's genious man 5/5

  • i am throughly convinced that dave has a background in mechincal engineering of some sort. this is incredible. the whole project is! though im still wondering what that track is! possibly bobcat track?

  • have a look at "how to build a sherman part 2" he explains how he made them.

  • Instead of using the seatbelt webbing, get the heavy duty drive belts from Harley Davidson FL motorcycles. If those aren't strong enough, look into the Roots style blower drive belts.

  • seatbelt webbing is actually very strong being that it cant lift up to 1 tonne of wieght

  • That's an amazing rig you made. Having built my own tracked vehicle last year, I am quite aware how much work goes into constructing something of this nature. Congrats on a job well done and on some fine engineering.

  • Great jobb man ! you say easy I say hard, becouse it is hard 10/10 stars

  • I think you should have made a panther tank, they are so cool. Still good work mate and i hardly ever see fellow Aussies on Youtube, especially with these sort of works of art

    Cheers mate All the best

  • He takes the tracks off so easily....If only it were that easy on a full size tank!

  • your probably one of the coolest guys i have ever seen. keep up the good work. like the shell, looks great.

  • shoulda made a tiger

  • How much would it cost to build one like your's, In U.S. dollars.

  • how in dah hell did he build dat

  • Man that's clever, part 5...where is it?

  • Unfortunately part 5 had to be removed because someone who holds the copy right for the music I used, objected. When I get a chance I'll re edit the sound track and upload part 5 again.

  • @Gizmo4t okn its a amzing tank how long did it take u to bulid it

  • @Gizmo4t ok its a ammzing tank how long did it take u to bulid it

  • @Gizmo4t I can't wait plz hurry thx

  • Brilliant. An engineering gem. Loved every detail, especially the tracks, transmission and fire control.

  • Another question: Why do you choose the rubber belts with the pulleys then chains for final transmission?

  • Belts, when slack will slip. If you used chains, there's no way of simply allowing them to slip. The forward/reverse drives would be going in opposite directs and would destroy each other. It would take a complicated array of clutches to use chains. The belt set up is very simple/cheap. I have to wonder if his reinforcing helps or makes the belts weaker by drilling though the internal cords of the belts though.

  • Can these belts hold the stress? I´d love to see you recording it´s off-roading capabilities ! Congratulations, very very nice.

  • can you send me the blueprits? :)

  • cool, now youre ready for ww3

  • That transmission is ingenious. I like how it is open and very easy to access. Not to mention the simplicity of it. Well done.

  • :D this is cool

  • I am confused, what parts to use, how to make it, how to make the shell I just dont feel theser videos get into the specifics

  • i am looking to build your tank, but i am not exactly sure what parts to use for certain things, could you recommend a web site or something like that. if you can that would be very helpful.

  • I hope you can show more how you did the seatbelts to work, and how you fitted it together... sorry for my bad english :/

  • I was hooked on doing this... until I saw the transmission... thats whats got me worried.

  • That was amazing and genius. Thanks for posting it.

  • I agree

  • ive been wondering how to run a tank on one engine and drive both tracks at the same time. this is one of the simplest and most elegant designs ive ever seen. i salute you good sir

  • how about a clutch as in a car, a differential end a brake on either side?

or would the tank go his own way like that?

Anyway. I love your tank! Perfect.

    Stijn

  • one word...wow

    amazing

  • i like the way you unscrew the front , and say " now this is simple " great job btw , really

  • lol "i've been working three years on the transmission.....that's EASY to build....." haha yea yea i know ....he means it took him that long to get it right, but the wording was funny.

  • you sir are a genius

  • thank you soo much you have saved me hours of thinking and studying.

  • Yea I saw the two gears for the counter rotation. If your not familiar with the Mini Dozer it uses two drive belts for each track the counter rotation comes from two of the belts(LH-RH) running on their outside and over pullies for reverse. We had an old 610 Bobcat skid steer that used a similar design but with roller chain and 4 clutchs.

  • Same design as a Struck Kit Mini Dozer...

  • No, it is similar but not the same. Mine has counter-rotating drives which is my invention.

  • @Gizmo4t you should get patent

  • lol...

  • its a shame i cant join the site, this is very interesting

  • Riveted belt can bi replaced by washing machine belts.

  • i love your work but the site wont let me join

  • Sorry but we no longer accept registrations from any free email service. Just too many bounces.

  • What do exactly you mean with "free email service" ?

    Nice work btw.

  • hotmail and gmail are free email services which anyone can use. You should have an email adress from your internet provider?

  • I simply use [my initials] @ [family domain].no :)

  • you know, i know how much work you put in that tank..... i guess ill honor it

  • very nice tranmission design i like how you reinforce the belts i might use that trick some day

  • how fast is it?

  • Good work dude, have you thought of one way clutch's for your drive ????

  • nice work

i drove 1 like that at boardwalk and baseball theme park tampa,FL

they fire tenis balls and had sensors on them

  • jak dla mnie za duzo tracych czesci. Zwykly most od polciezarowki by dal rade. mozna skrecac hamujac lewa lub prawa strone.Mechanizm roznicowy na to pozwoli

  • tak ale jak bedziesz cofal?

chyba ze zrobisz osobna skrzynie biegow.

  • How bout back in the states here , we just mount a 12 ga shot gun with slugs on a ditch witch

  • good soluction to reverse. You could put a coupling in the reverse axis to reduces the power loss and noise when you are just goig forward

  • proud of u built tank our puerto rico

  • man looks great! what part of aus you live in? i live in perth. how much did it cost you to make?

  • Yes mate I live in Perth also.

  • where can i find a detail list of that
