If you want to argue that it poses dangers to asthmatics and people with pre-existing health defects, that's fine. I know however, that the idea of "being next to a smoker is the same as smoking" is based on nothing. Actually, it's based on something that clearly says no, it's nowhere near the same!

Every large body of work is based off of the surgeon general report which was cherry picked information from research that proved lung cancer and many other health defects cannot be linked to secondhand smoke. Don't smoke, it's bad for you!

I'd like to point out that there aren't any significant adverse health effects of second hand smoke. The organizations that say so all run off the surgeon general report that essentially made up all their numbers and statistics. The number of people who die from second hand smoke is zero, it would take other health defects for that to happen and even then car exhaust would be much more harmful. Don't smoke, it's actually bad for you, but secondhand smoke is not.

@poweredonlife Thanks for posting what you did. I have seen these studies as well and know that SHS is harmless. Getting people to look for themselves is tricky though. They seem to enjoy being scared of something harmless and treating smokers like crap simply because they dont like it and they were told to fear it. The chemicals found in SHS that are dangerous are not near the levels they would have to be to be dangerous. They are present in many thjngs as well, not just SHS. I need more room.

Everyone has a long-standing RIGHT to smoke-free air. Smoking should immediately be banned everywhere, indoors and out. Toxic tobacco smoke kills 65,000 INNOCENT people in the U.S. every year; more than 600,000 worldwide. Simply put, this is terrorism by the tobacco pushers.

The tobacco drug should be banned now and the pushers prosecuted for wholesale murder.

@picklesloveslight My sister has been hooked up to a respirator twice since my last post. However she has quit smoking,lost weight and gets out the house more than she did a year ago. It took awhile but she finally woke up. Sorry but I can't believe a word you typed since my sister is as stubbon as a man that won't get a prostate exam and if she can quit anyone can quit!!!

Unbelievable. These institutions are paid to say whatever to influence people to stop because they dont like it. If they are so concerned about life and health, why dont they ban alcohol again? That causes more problems. Anything is a health hazard when not in moderation.

Betsy, I thank you for being so diligent to wake people up but if they don't want to be they won't. My sister is overweight, has asthma,smokes and has had enough episodes to the doctor that she should've woke up by now. I know it's hard to quit but the need to live a healthy more productive life should be more important.

This is true! On the Railroad station in the city this is a real problem. People smoke all around u and u get second hand smoke almost every breath. Ban public smoking!
