they do if you play too rough. We actually damaged my vader saber (red) in the making of this video. it still works 100%, but there's a dent in the plastic tube
we used a combination of cheap $5 light sabers from wal*mart (for the shots where a light saber is turned on or off) and Force FX Light Sabers from Master Replicas. The Force FX cost about $100 each.

those are actually Master Replicas Force FX Lightsabers, though we never turned them on. I rotoscoped them in Adobe After Effects.
