My cat has started wanking in the kitchen and I frequently come downstairs in the morning to find cat-spunk all over the floor. Does anyone know what I can do to deter him from doing this?

Yup! Some cats will spray even after they have been neutered or spayed. And female cats pee to mark their territory too!

Cats don't like the smell of anything citrus so I picked up some orange essential oil from Save-on foods and put a few drops where the cat tends to spray and that seemed to help.

i believe punishment is the only solution.... incrementally fiercer rage for each time you catch a new WHIFF. It really works.

@polymerclaycreatable : that's cruel and inhumane! how would you like it if someone shocked you with something and just sat there and laughed. that's just as bad as putting a shock collar on your cat! your lazy, not wanting to work on helping your cat when you would rather be cruel about it and shock it.

I will now try the scent wiping - unfortunately there are 6 of them so that is also a problem

they didn't start until they were 18 months either

I have bengals and two of the females are spraying - I have tried EVERYTHING - feliway, urine off, tranquilizers, lot of fuss - NOTHING WORKS

I have tried the feliway and it does not work. I have 10 house cats, all spayed. I have never had a problem with any of my cats spaying until I moved a year ago. I don't know which cat is doing the spraying because I have not been able to catch who is doing it. I am desperate to find something that will work.

Female cats? They can, but it's rare. They'll only do it when they're in heat and in the reseptive period. Meaning they'll alow the tom cats to mount and breed them.

@HelpfulHelper123 : your cat was spayed, not neutered. and you have said so yourself that it is rare by pointing out that ONE of your FOUR cats are doing it. my cats have been spayed for a year now and have never sprayed since then.

Take time to play with your cat. If you want to train him to remain indoors, you must keep the environment stimulating and interesting.

I read you should have them neutered before they reach sexual maternity.

@takarada : yes because they are less prone to certain cancers and such, specially females. and for males, it makes the chance of them spraying less.

Create a regular schedule of playtime with your cat each day. Life can be more fulfilling for an indoor cat that gets a lot of love and playtime than a cat that might not get as much of owner's attention.Test out different toys to find what your cat may prefer. Also, sometimes the simple things in life can be the most entertaining!

You're having a laugh, surely? Its making the place stink so you can't leave the curtains open, can't open the door, pretty much can't have contact with the outside world and if you DO happen to do any of this (like a normal person with a normal life) then you have to wipe its greasy smell all around the place to try and stop it making a worse smell?

Sorry to cat lovers but it would be out on its ear in short time.
