Emily was gracious....sadly she hadn't any choice but had the daughter of an attorney been treated in such a manner......well......who knows? kwan is NOT NOT NOT gracious nor is she the 'best'...she is for sure well known because she was around for so long but that doesn't make her anything other than a wannabe who used a pen to shaft another skater and then lapped up the praise for giving what was left of the dream back to the rightful owner!
@getrealandsee Have you ever tried contacting the Hughes family and asked how they felt when Michelle's petition was granted? But I do remember Emily saying the following back in 2006: "I think that it was fair that Michelle had all the opportunity to be named to the Olympic team and I feel that it's unfortunate that she was injured." You may be entitled to your opinion, but so does Emily and her family, who felt Kwan rightfully deserved it. :)
@TeamKween2010 Of course I haven't contacted the Hughes family but c'mon who the blazes wouldn't be devastated....what was Emily supposed to say to the press? She didn't stand a chance and I am expressing my own opinions and those of others who saw right thru that stupid press conference which disrupted the viewing of the games...people wanted to see competition...not a washed up old wannabe whining all over TV garnering sympathy and pity. Kwan has had so much pity press that she NEEDS the truth
For Meissner, Liang, Emily Hughes and Alissa Czisny, this might be the only chance they have to be an Olympian. This is a dream they have chased for a lifetime only to find out it might be punctured by backroom politicking.
As I said...it's still on the net for anyone to read....and it's only ONE of many many articles that show the OUTRAGE of a nation!
@getrealandsee This article has a strong bias. (Even though I am a huge Todd Eldredge fan), I do feel for Mark Mitchell. He had dreams of being at the Olympics one day too. But he was not given the chance because the USFS granted Todd a spot. Now, should I get angry like you and say, "THAT"S SUCH AN OUTRAGE. MARK DESERVED TO BE ON THE TEAM". So Todd went onto compete at two more Olympic Games (1998, 2002) and Mark Mitchell did not. How unfair is that....
How can they spend four years revamping the scoring system to assure no one gets cheated on the ice, then turn around and consider cheating someone in a conference room with no cameras or accountability?
And, make no mistake, it would be cheating.
According to U.S. Figure Skating's bylaws, an injury petition can be granted based on a competitor's performances in six previous events over the past year. Kwan, 25, participated in only one of those six events. And she did not win a medal.
@getrealandsee But the scores of her fourth place at the World Championships in Moscow were higher than Emily to begin with. And if the USFS wanted their best chances of medals...yes medals, there is no doubt that Michelle should have been placed on the team. And before she could rightfully be on the team, she had to skate infront of a board that would decide if she was in fact ready.
@TeamKween2010 so then, WHY did kwan state openly that when she left LA the thought of medals never crossed her mind.....she did and it's on youtube!! I know we will never agree on this but as far as that 'tryout'....it was a farce and the vote wasn't unanimous....the only way that kwan would 'win the medal that never crossed her mind' is if the other skaters didn't show up and with the kwan there at all they might as well have stayed home anyway...it was as usual all about HER!!
@getrealandsee Ever heard of the "dark side of journalism"? I am an aspiring broadcast journalist, and I know that they have a way of twisting words to appeal to the public. There was a fluff piece at the 2006 US Nationals where Michelle talked about the Olympic Games. I will have to find it. :)
@TeamKween2010 Cool....so you're studying to be a journalist...a broadcast journalest...I truly wish you the best in that endeavor!!! I love to write myself and at one point that could have been one of my goals...
@getrealandsee "...people wanted to see competition..." And what a joke that competition it was. No disrespect to Shizuka, but the winner at these Olympics only had FIVE triple jumps, and no triple-triple combinations? Too many dowgraded jumps, huh? I am not sure whether it was you who said that, but I will point out, even without a triple-triple combination, Michelle would consistently do SEVEN triple jumps! :)
Not that it would be shocking. This is, after all, a sport that considers integrity a side dish. A sport of knee-whackers and crooked judges.
A sport that could shamelessly promote its national championship and, when it's all over, decide it really wasn't such an important event after all.
You should know, by now, that Kwan isn't here. Hasn't really been anywhere for quite some time. She has been injured, indifferent and indisposed for much of the past year.
And don't try to use Sasha as a bait to exploit your fabricated 'favoritism of Sasha when you should have stayed in Tonya Harding's closet. You cannot make Michelle Kwan a clone of Sasha, nor can it be the other way around. It is like trying to compare Mao to her south Korean rival out of creating intense and heated debate about the two figure skaters. Because I've seen outrageous hatred of Mao, in the same shadow that embraced Michelle Kwan. How many more hating forums are you going to create?
@anne91276 Oh wait.....Tonya Harding.....Michelle's IDOL? That Tonya Harding? Well, color me red...I done missed that.....I have no use whatsoever for Tonya Harding after the attack on Nancy....and she went out of her way to be obnoxious...probably a defensive move on her part but hardly endearing. Oh, yes...Michelle's IDOL and Michelle sophisticated the technique but for sure followed Tonya's example and people got HURT...not to mention embarrassed...except of course for Kwan...
Getrealandchoke. So what is your excuse to come in here? Post another mindless wisecracks at an attempt to discredit Michelle Kwan's performance with your own mediocre commentary that makes me want to puke. So you try to create multiple screen names to avoid us trying to detect you. Well it is a poor excuse to pull out an extended legacy of your own by hating Michelle Kwan. Why do you think I have a reason to stalk you and your stupid clones?

Heh heh heh.....after the complete travesty at Nats little Michelle didn't even make the podium....she had to actually compete and it proved what an insignificant little footnote in skating she truly is...she was scared of cop and with good reason...it exposed her for what she is and isn't but hey, she made mega bucks in her pathetic little career and brags about all her bling and titles...and then she had the GALL to consider herself one of the top 3 skaters in our country and screwed Emily!!
@getrealandsee The only thing that "pathetic" are YOUR vindictive and truly vicious posts about Michelle Kwan... Grow up and get over your bitter hate of Michelle! You don't even know this woman! 5 World titles, 9 National titles, and an Olympic silver and bronze. She earned all of her titles. Don't you have anything better to do with your "life"? It's normal to avoid things that you hate...
@getrealandsee To finish fourth overall at her first competition under the IJS is actually quite remarkable. Even without the highest levels, Michelle managed to finish third in both the short program and long program. Had she skated just a little bit better in the qualifying, she would have been the bronze medalist here. :)
@TeamKween2010 I agree that 4th isn't too shabby. I have thought about that many times in watching this.....it all but chokes me to admit that but there it is....lol!!! And her East of Eden in the white dress....well, I love it....that white against Michelle's skin is so pretty and while she doesn't exert herself technically it is a beautiful program...I love the music....oh my goodness that took everything out of me....I need to rest up....you're cool in my book TeamKween2010!
@getrealandsee You shouldn't joke about an injury. Any injury that is. Remember, Tara Lipinski cited her reason for turning professional after the Olympics was due to a hip injury, which she got hip surgery for in 2000. That is two years after her big win in Nagano. And Michelle wasn't appointed to the USF Hall of Fame on her own. It was voted by the public and then ultimately the USFS board. So blame the people and the USFS board, not Michelle... More to come....
@TeamKween2010 I never said that Michelle didn't deserve to be in the FSHOF...just sickening the display made over her induction after all the crap she pulled. She is shameless and honestly clueless....not to start an argument here but Kwan cashed in on Torino and that took some real spin....Emily had the right to the whole Olympic experience...and there's a video specifically addressing the need to adjust which Emily didn't have. Kwan should have just stayed home. Period. But she is so arrogant
@getrealandsee Well, the display made over her induction was not planned by Michelle. She would have been inducted to the hall of fame sooner or late anyways, right? And while she may not have appealed to you, in the years she did compete, she was able to touch the lives of other athletes and fans (like myself). Even you have said that Michelle was always artistic. Only thing she lacked was the technical content. These were your words. This sport is subjective, so I understand your opinion.
@TeamKween2010 Perhaps the display wasn't planned by Michelle but she sure lapped it up...I get that she is HOF material....I have never said that she didn't earn some of her bling...but as the years passed she became arrogant and what I DO NOT get is the 'gracious' label (I wish yt had spell check)....I read on the net...I see what I see...thumbs down at the OLYMPICS???? The sniveling on the podium...what she did to in 2006....if artistic is wiggle and jiggle and facial expressions ...hey...MK
@getrealandsee To continue, if Michelle really wanted all the spotlight and applauce she can get, she would have taken the offer to commentate at the 2006 Olympic Games. But what did she do? She withdrew from the time (as promised), giving enough time for Emily Hughes to come in and prepare for the competition. :)
@TeamKween2010 Ok...personally I don't believe that Kwan had any intention whatsoever of skating...she would have made a total fool of herself....this was about money going into her pockets....as far as not commentating...again....she wanted to get outa Dodge and skate with the mouse...she wanted to get away from the mess she made and she KNEW that people weren't buying her BS.....so....this is just another undo credit given to kwan....She had NO RIGHT to be in Torino except as a spectator.

@getrealandsee Well I disagree. I think Michelle deserved to be on the Olympic Team in 2006. In regards to the Emily situation, when petioning to be on the team, just as Nancy Kerrigan (1994), Todd Eldredge (1992) and Jenni Meno and Todd Sand (1998) had to do, Michelle had to prove she was ready to a panel of judges. Had they felt she was not ready, they would not have made the decision they did. But injuries are part of life. It was just unfortunate they took a toll this late in her career.
@TeamKween2010 I will NEVER agree with that...I firmly believe that she set that whole thing up and hadn't any intention of skating and further more really did a lot of damage to the integrity of the Olympics....averted and fixed with CoP but no thanks to her. For her to do what she did KNOWINGLY was just wrong and utterly selfish....that clause is in place but the rules were BROKEN for her...and then again with the 'gracious'.that alone sets my teeth on edge. No way in blazes was that gracious.
@getrealandsee And I think it would be best, if you drop the whole "little kid" talk. By this, I mean stuff like this, "Put the cameras on MEMEME kwan...gimme the microphone. and the applause and ovation? aw,poor little Shelly....". You are entitled to an opinion, but I honestly think this is taking it a bit too far. And I believe you have made comments in the past saying that anyone who has looked up to Michelle has done poorly. Regret it? They are all doing pretty well now! :)
So, I was right...the timing was off. I wasn't sure. I wonder if Michelle would have done better here had she not skipped the Grand Prix season for fear of cop. I am pleased that cop restored the integrity of figure skating and took none of its beauty away.
@getrealandsee She avoided the GP because her hip injury was practically screaming at this point. She would have done worse skating more events on that injury. And no, I don't think you're right about much, except how badly you envy Michelle Kwan.
@Tenebarum Hey.....her hip 'injury' ranks right up there with her groin owie...yet another excuse....envy...a wannabe...a phony....a lol....no, I don't envy this self centered arrogant oblivious person. What her hip healed before the world's....before she decided that she was one of the top 3 skaters in America...'ummm....you missed the podium here...you blew two Olympics....how does that compute? Oh, that's right...your forte is "situational ethics". Oh, and her timing WAS off...bbbusted by CoP

Ugly and wrong on every single level!!
So, I was right...the timing was off. I wasn't sure. I wonder if Michelle would have done better here had she not skipped the Grand Prix season for fear of cop. I am pleased that cop restored the integrity of figure skating and took none of its beauty away.
I agree that the effect of the program was partially ruined...That spiral was amazing right at the crescendo. I think it all went wrong at the combination spin after the 3F...She was forced to add a position / hold all the positions for longer than originally planned due to the new system. Wierd that she didn't fix this up in practice.
@wanikalai what are you talking about? Her spirals? Or her overall execution? What is your point of having her attempting to hold her position when she probably couldn't do a position due to her problems with flexibility? She is not a flexible skater and she probably was absent minded about the moves she know that she haven't used before. But lately, it isn't important as much as attempting her complete technical components.
This is the first time I have seen this performance from the 2005 worlds. I had no idea that she fell behind in the music so badly. It threw off the effect of the program, esp. in the spiral sequence. I'm not sure where it all went wrong, though... I also can't imagine how panicked she must've felt, thinking that she might get another short program penalty for not ending with the music...

ST. LOUIS - We're in the final hours of the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and awaiting another dramatic comeback. My money is on scandal.
I'm guessing it slides past Kimmie Meissner and beats the sequins out of Bebe Liang. I think it trumps credibility and pauses at corruption.
I think Michelle Kwan might make the Olympic team.
When I first read this I was just plain sick....I was SO happy that kwn wasn't given as in GIVEN Olympic Gold....the judges can only do so much...
