  • I tried nichiren buddhism and its chanting, it is peaceful (the chanting), but leaves you feeling no more different than if you had sung any other prayer of any other religion with equal passion.Because its ideas are pleasing and relies on the concept that you can control your 'destiny' by uniting with the universe, I believe that nichiren preys on people who feel fragile (conclusion through personal experience again). As its philosophy is not logical, can't see it's chant being any different.

  • @vivelafrance90 Have you rehd the 'Lifespan of the Thus-Come One?' That tells you why you follow faithfully and the result of such discipleship ... following the leader well enough to take his place, etc.

  • @mythmanjay

No I haven't, but I have asked many people (including SGI high placed people), but none could answer the issues I had,I have come to the conclusion that no one can, i understand why people chant to the Gohonzo, but it is the logic behind the universe, reincarnation etc that does not work for me-thus the chanting has no logic...Personally I prefer Catholicism, it is more logical and I feel better with it =)

  • @vivelafrance90 I've rehd some Buddhist writing on why all religions are Buddhism (because they are all focused on 'devoted obedience to a master') And Catholicism (which my Godfather told me was 'just like Buddhism' during my Confirmation) is such an one: Each of us following the discipleship set by my FAVORITE Buddha (Sanskrit for 'Awakened One') Jesus bin Joseph.

  • @mythmanjay

This is a beautiful idea, but there is sadly much difference between Catholicism, Budhism sees the Buddha as a person who has achieved inner peace, has arrived to the stage of the Buddha, people follow them, see them as master, but I don't see Jesus as a master. God is not a human who achieved enlightenment but the reason of life on earth, He is love. The philosophy is different from Nichiren Buddhism entirely.I can't compare Catholicism to Buddhism in the short space youtube offers

  • @vivelafrance90 Buddha doesn't claim to be the original 'god.' As I might've said in the recording, the 'prime mantra' (Gohonzen) means something-like 'Listen for the Divine Voice and follow it's commandments (as much as you can with so many others hearing-and-following the commandments a little differently and reacting to still other forces in action) ..." Christ IS 'God-made-Man'! You could say Jesus was BORN Enlightened! (And true, He didn't do the discipleship necessary to FIND enlightenment

  • Sokka Gakkai is in no way connected to Nichiren Daishonin and you know it.

  • @MyOzzio I know nothing. I'm fairly sure you know just as much, but I don't know. I know that claiming I know something I don't know marks me (to myself) as a fool, and am puzzled how anyone claims to know anything they do not create. I'm sure the Soka Gakkai YOU create is in no way connected to Nichiren, but the booklet I am here reading was PUBLISHED BY Soka Gakkai International (or some-such Soka Gakkai organization).

  • @centaur9224 Thank you

  • It's not Buddhism.

Do Nicheren followers actually read the Lotus Sutra?

The Lotus Sutra encourages meditation, that is Zazen.

Nicheren sects and SGI discourage meditation

  • @Seishi41 Maybe it's not 'your understanding of Buddhism' , but one of the writings they read ALONGSIDE the Lotus Sutra says that 'all religions are Buddhism' (focusing on the Discipleship of the 'Practice'-pillar ... the other two pillars being 'Meditation' and 'Learning' I think). The main 'attraction' of most SGI meetings is 'the chanting of a few chapters of the Lotus Sutra' (GUIDED MEDITATION ... appreciation for-Expedient Means and -the Life-Span of the Thus-Come One).

  • treat it like a car, take it for a test drive and if you dont like it dont buy it...

  • @palmita1231 That's what Buddhist study IS. Like a car, you have to ACTUALLY GET INTO IT to take a test drive.

  • @articzoo Why is it for idiots?

  • @TheNichirenBuddhist I can't say for sure why @articzoo thinks it's "a Buddhist sect for idiots." I'm not even sure what he means, as the following of ANY religion is usually 'admitting WE DON'T KNOW, but know who/what DOES know.' Christians say "the difference between the people in a church and the people outside a church is that the people INSIDE *KNOW* they're all sinners!"

  • @mythmanjay honestly it might be lack of knowledge or ARROGANCE=which was my problem :( it took me awhile to accept the lotus sutra also.mabey he thinks meditation is the ONLY way to be ENLIGHTENED(being a former thervadan)LOOK up pali canon suttas where the Buddha SPOKE to people and they were INSTANTLY ENLIGHTENED.even the pali states meditation isnt the ONLY way.when we see a spider we want to KILL it cause we FEAR it and dont actually know what it wants(mabey it was trying to say hey)

  • @Buddhist1986 'Enlightenment & Meditation' are like 'education & school' to me ... people think you can only get the first by doing a lot of the second; but no, the second is only the surest, best known-way to get the first (an example Napoleon Hill gives in "Think & Grow Rich" is Henry Ford (inventor of the eight-cylinder motor, a feature that made his Model-T car cheap), who wasn't highly-schooled but -who took the news-media TO COURT for inferring and stating that he was "uneducated.")

  • @mythmanjay well depend on what u consider meditation as stated if u look at alot of the suttas u will find people in the pali canon were enlightened by the buddhas WORDS not sitting meditation. more than storys of them meditateing and reaching enlightenment.u can do a simple internet search and find the info or u can look into the majjhima nikaya and i think mabey in the digha nikaya(its been awhile im not sure about the digha nikaya).but seek and u shall find

  • @Buddhist1986 I think I meant that comparison 'irrespective,' that 'meditation' is the education-period while 'enlightenment' (listening to the words of someone else's Buddha-nature) is the school-time. That's why I "hate" those ITT Tech (tech-school) commercials, with all their a-lamb-ni (sheeple) claiming that they had to 'go and get' their education. "Education" is literally 'producing from within,' which they either train you to do in elementary-school (Pre-K thru 12th) or you never get it.

  • @mythmanjay wow that was like 4 months ago when we talked, well i follow the school of rissho kosei kai,so to me meditation is word that we give its own meaning, namu myoho renge kyo can be meditation to one and just a chant to anouther,i find it calms the mind the same as zazen what school do u "identify" with?peace and love

  • @Buddhist1986 I'm not sure it's a "school," but Soka Gakkai (Wealth Creation) International, USA, introduced me to Buddhism & the Lotus Sutra. Personally, I see how the meditation/chant Nam(u)-Myoho-Renge-Kyo is a verbalization of the 'frame of mind' of everyone-&-everything (altho--with non-thinking objects--'Myo-' is simply 'whatever force is most-present,' having no choice but to attempt to obey)

  • @mythmanjay sure soka gakkai is a school peace and love

  • @Buddhist1986 Appreciation ... that's what the SG school is built-upon (like the Christian church's "love," which is really the same thing)

  • @articzoo Peaceful

  • @articzoo Oh, you're right. Sorry all several-million of us never as 'smart' as you ... never 'smart' enough to stop learning. Of course, I'm of the opinion that ANYONE who 'stops learning'--no matter HOW "smart" he thinks he is--is actually the stupid one.

  • ok here is what I don't get. why does a japanese monk in the 13th century think that he knows the true teachings of buddha and everyone else doesn't? I mean the same literature was available to everyone. so why would only he understand it? is he saying that the original Buddha in India taught the lotus sutra and nam myo ho renge kyo? if so, where is the proof that he did?

  • @stefanmuth Where did he say that 'everyone else doesn't'? Every religion IS Buddhism, which is 'listening to the univverse's sounds to discern the divinely-led from the naturally-reacting' ... or--literally--Namu (reverent listening) Myoho (divinely-led actions) Renge (naturrally-reacting) Kyo (the Sound resulting from the combination of the two)

  • @stefanmuth Would the truth be any different if it were found instead by a pile of scum in South Africa?

I don't think I'm saying 'no one else found it first,' I think it's more like 'this is the truth that everyone finds!'

  • @stefanmuth well from what i get he quoted buddhist scripture and even refuted some buddhists texts cause they stated thing(my opionion that were added and wasnt actually buddhas teachings)he stated the HINYHANA texts were called the SMALL vehical do to half of ALL the human race couldnt be saved he refuted this beleif the hinyhana had he also refuted the same beleif when it found its way into mahayana texts.what it comes down to can WE BE BUDDHAS 2 if so then we have a BUDDHAS WRITING(nichiren)

  • @Buddhist1986 right-on! a 'Buddha' is simply 'one who walks the enlightened/awakened path.' Buddhists then are they who follow 'such a one,' becoming Buddhas themselves when they follow closely enough (of course rising through the nine worlds ... which--they learn--they remain within and always were in to begin with!)

  • myth let it die mate - u are starting to give me the impression u are a drama queen out to have a bitch at anyones expense.. enough already!!!

  • @matureasian I would have let it die, if you had not impelled me to respond. Perhaps I /am/--as you say--drama-royalty; in that case, you need me to do what you expect drama-royalty to do ... if that means that 'this' is "bitching," that's your choice; I hope that this sounds like a calm dialog, but it's not my choice how my writing's voice sounds in your head ;)

  • @matureasian I would have let it die, if you had not impelled me to respond. Perhaps I /am/--as you say--drama-royalty; in that case, you need me to do what you expect drama-royalty to do ... if that means that 'this' is some sort of nagging that's your choice; I hope that this sounds like a calm dialog, but it's not my choice how my writing's voice sounds in your head ;)

  • actually the correct way is Namu myoho renghe kyo. "Nah moo Me O hoe Ren gay key yo.

  • @GoddessOFUnity Yes, great goddess! (the closest we mortals can get to Divine is the words we see ... lucky we have You to show us the words we can not see, oh Divinity-made-Nerd! lol)

  • And for what you have just said about Sansho-shima - I think you need to realise that we can be sansho shima to ourselves as well...

  • @matureasian That's why I often say to Christian preachers (when they're all-off on some "Judge Not, Lest Ye Be Judged"-sermon), 'Look in the mirror, Buddha!'

  • @matureasian You ever wonder if Buddha watches his own actions? Any mirrors up there on Holy Eagle Peak?

  • I KILLED THE KKK IN A PEACEFUL WAY!

  • @SimonsMuse Yes, just as all us whities must, each & every day

  • Myth you are running riot my friend. My initial comment was the false sounding voice you have used on your video - simple as that! Reading some of the other comments it would appear that I am not the only one who would have preferred a more realistic voice. You can either accept this or not - that's your choice - but don't twist things into this prolonged silliness because YOU want to be right and me wrong. Enough already...

  • @matureasian You're twisting things enough for the both of us.

  • Is this a computer generated voice? It has no emotion at all.

  • @matureasian No. Do you need emotion to know the truth when you hear it?

  • Hmmm.. wel.... call me crazy for thinking this if you like... but using a false voice takes away credibilitiy. ....

  • @matureasian Good, because 'seeking to be credible' would indicate that I'm trying to "sell" Buddhism to you.

I'm not. If you don't take up the teaching yourself, I don't want you to have it.

  • I have practised Nichiren's Buddhism for almost 40 years my friend... please don't get carried away with yourself. And if you place videos on youtube that have something odd about them, as this one does, then be prepared to accept people's comments. That is your responsibility....otherwise you should not be posting stuff...

  • @matureasian how did I not "accept people's comments"?

Don't you know the teaching of /Sansho Shima/?

  • Yes I do know sansho shima my friend and trying to encourage someone like yourself to improve their presentation of the LAW is certainly NOT sansho shima. Sansho shima is when you are faced with obstacles that work to prevent your efforts to share the teachings of Nichiren. For example, if your car unexpectedly breaks down on the way to do shakubuku that is sansho shima - but if you were lazy minded and could not be bothered adding petrol and you run out - that is NOT sansho shima. :o)

  • @matureasian A more realistic translation of Sansho Shima is 'demons & obstacles'---blocks that arise TO the right path ... "If you are on the Buddha's path, Sansho Shima WILL arise." If they do not arise, you are NOT on the right path :-) Thus I might be part of the 'Sansho Shima' to you and you might be part of the 'Sansho Shima' to me.

  • annoying voice.

  • @PlayDBug Thank You!

  • i think that amida buddhism and nichiren buddhism are two different things. the first relies on rebirth in amida's paradise in order to reach happiness the second relies on here and now. the first is a kind of reliance on an external power the second is totally reliant on oneself and our inner buddhahod. somehow they are at opposite ends.

  • @nichirenista not really. All Buddhism is simply 'following the Way of the Awakened Ones' (Amida may rely on external power, but must recognize that each follower must learn to CHOOSE to rely on that power; Nichiren may rely on that choosing--which is really what Buddhahood is--, but cannot choose without the choices being made available)

  • lol

  • @TheBuddhaTv lovely

  • This was very helpful. Thank You

  • @XxcameronholdenxX It is an honor to serve (expounding /kosen rufu/) :-D

  • True, and Nam-Myoho follows Nem Butsu

  • I'm sure I'll add NemButsU to 'the list of divine sounds I meditate on' (Expedient Means, Life Span of the Thus-Come One, Shoten Zenjin), but Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo is 'the way the world goes'; as long as we're livin` in it, it's good to echo it.
