What beautiful rendition of a gorgeous song. I wish Don could have sung a duet with Barbra Streisand. Her version is also exquisite. They would have been great together. Wonder why no one ever thought of putting them together?
Crappy introduction... Leaves a foul taste in the mouth before he begins... And, because this is one of the weaker versions out there he needs all the help he could get!
Listening to this version of this hauntingly beautiful song actually moved me to tears - and being a man - I'll share that it made the hair on my arms stand. Don's rendition is almost non-chalant, but his is truly a master's voice with absolute control and effortless singing. There's a natural tone to his voice that's as tangible as it is so sensitively rendered - and overall as tender as this song could ever be sung. We can almost "touch" the yearning in his voice - a legend in his own right.
Although I play his CDs on a regular basis; I recently (re)discovered just how much I love this man and his music. Now I'm discovering a lot of his songs that I never heard him sung before...... and can't stop listening! I grew up listening to NKC's version of this song and loved it, but I love Don's version even more. I feel like he is singing it to me. ;) Thanks for posting.
I saw an interview with McLean in the 80's where he professed to being politically conservative. And now when his songs come on the radio I turn the station.
Too bad the whole song is not there. But I GREATLY enjoyed seeing this today for the first time. This song has always been one of my favorite romantic ballads & it was a JOY to hear it sung by the very talented Mr McLean! MANY thanks for posting this treasure of a tune! :)
@valtersmlemes Pena mesmo, e pena maior que não seja somente a música porque é uma das melhores interpretações dessa canção .E , de mais, a música é um negócio à parte.
Think McLean really enjoyed interrpreting music at a time when everyone was supposed to be a song writer. These days, most people write songs with nothing to day. McLean was unusual in that he had much to say, and transcendant lyrics. But he seemed to have stopped writing as a young man. Assume what happened with him is he stopped catering to his fans. His interpretations are nice, but others more creative on that end. And interpretation lost vogue anyway.
Don McLean ALWAYS recognized good music. Hard to believe the first time I heard this song was in an old movie in the 50's as a child; and then I heard Don sing it! So many memories of him back then so many just good music back then. Today it is just crude rude and do me baby
Joseph Is there any way that you can re format this video to give us the entire song?? Maybe cut out a little of the prelude and give us the entire soundtrack of the song-----great rendition by Mclean.
and respected him than. The more music I find of his on you tube the deeper my respect goes. This is an immensly talented man who probably never got the respect that he deserved.
mrface19 no one asked you about your religious tripe so shut the hell up and keep believing in yourself and others that dare to be around you Nothing else you
Wow - this is what real music is all about. What a terrific job Don does. I feel that every very talented musician loves a song like this and likes to sing it. So romantic and the background music is lovely - short but lovely. Thank you for posting. - Paula
This is a fine rendition of this song which was composed by Ray Noble in the early thirties, so it is rather more than 70 years old. But it is timeless - a real standard.
"back when we were idealistic" what an interesteing comment... I yielded to that for a long time.. until I came to understand the utopia God offers through Jesus.... seriously.... the Bible, when one stays with it with a good attitude, or heart, reveals just this..!
God sent Jesus here and did what? He taught us to love one another, to forgive one another, to do what honors God, and to spread the truth about His return... perhaps you misunderstood personal expression of a faith that runs by the hand of God, and not by man... I pray you will realize how cool it is that our Creator reaches down to us and says... here I am... and here is why I created you all!
i understand. God gives us the freedom to choose to be with Him or not to be... it is an individual choice to go on with or without Him in our lives...

Gostei, mas é uma pena que não está completo.
Sou um fã de Don McLean e fiz dois clipes com legendas em portugues.
I liked it, but it is a pity that is not complete.
I'm a fan of Don McLean and made two clips with subtitles in Portuguese.
